Original sin.

Your move.

Actually, that is an interesting question. What did Jesus's death allow the Christians to do that Jews could not do? I was told the Jews would kill innocent lambs in order to atone for original sin and be allowed into heaven. In which case Jesus died so we wouldn't need to kill lambs?

Further more, if Jesus is taking the penalty of our sins (as taught by many versions of christianity) then shouldn't he be in hell?

The whole thing doesn't make any sense (which is to be expected from religion in general).

God... why does every religion thread always end up with angry atheists bashing believers?

Why isn't there a thread that goes like this:

Christian: I believe in God and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Atheist 1: I envy you, Christian. I don't believe in God, but I wish I could believe. It seems that believing in some sort of God makes your life more meaningful and gives you a better sense of moral responsibility with your fellow neighbor.

Atheist 2: I don't believe in God, but I don't wish I did either. I respect the fact that you believe in God, but I live a life of rational thought and scientific curiosity that excludes the need for a Creator.

Christian: It's OK guys. I'll pray for the three of us.

Maybe because the thread you just posted ends with the Christian being passive aggressive and insulting. Do you really think I want someone wasting their time doing something in my name that I don't believe in? Take out that last line and I might be able to agree.

really? You're bitching about somebody "Wasting their time" doing something they want to do? That has no direct affect on you (as far as you are concerned) Passive aggressive? Insulting? Jesus H. Christ are you stupid.

I don't think it's stupid at all. I also find it insulting when someone says they will pray for me and have asked my friends if they want to pray for me to keep it to themselves, I don't want to hear about it. I'd prefer they didn't bother with it at all, but that's their choice.

And this...

I don't believe in God, but I don't wish I did either. I respect the fact that you believe in God, but I live a life of rational thought and scientific curiosity that excludes the need for a Creator.

That's okay, I respect your beliefs, but I will still pray for both of us.

It is condescending and reeks for "I'm a better person than you are. Oh silly atheist, don't worry, I'll save your soul!". It is passive aggressive. It is a little hidden way of saying "Oh well I'm right and your wrong so let's stop talking about it."

And maybe it does have an effect on me. Hell if you believe in god, then let me go to hell. I made my bed and I WANT to lie in it. So stop trying to save me.

Would Christians be offended if I was from Papua New Guinea and dug up your grand father's corpse to give him the rights my faith requires for him to go to my heaven? I mean it doesn't have any direct effect on you. (Or as a poster above me posted, why are Christians offended by gays being married, it doesn't effect them in any way...)

I wouldn't be offended, but of course my grandparents have always been cremated. Cheaper then planting and space saving as well...

Taking the lord's name in vain doesn't have anything to do with vulgarity, as commonly accepted. It has everythign to do with pretending you're a christian.

but who cares since it's all a bunch of horse shit anyway

the christians i know don't think that they are better than anyone else. they just acknowledge the fact that they too are sinners, like everyone else.

Romans 3:23
...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...

don't you guys believe that cows are sacred?

Christians have an indoctrinated need, an urge, to control everything they see and bend the world around them to fit their agenda. That's why they can't just shut the fuck up about gay marriage. That's why they go door to door. That's why they feel so self righteous when they tell you that they'll pray for you, as if they have some sort of power that you don't, that god will listen to them and not you or some shit.

the door-to-doorers are a cult (jehovah's witnesses).
please don't lump them together with christians.

Haha.

To be fair though, Xtians "sin" as much as anyone else, they just think that they will get away with it in the afterlife if they believe.

I think at least one or two mega-church pastors per week get caught doing meth lines off rent boys....you can almost set your watch to it.
fixed that for you

Maybe by you. I get baptists, mormons, and witnesses. That baptists want to give me a bible, the mormon's want to give me a talking to, and the witnesses want to do whatever the hell they want.

Regardless it is all done in the name of God.

You Christians need to get your act together and unify the faith. It looks bad when you can't even agree on simple things.
