I would list all the stuff that I miss from germany, but in truth, there's a pretty damn good german bakery nearby that also stocks a lot of german groceries. My local grocery store does the same thing.

It helps living in a military town, I suppose.

I'm from Michigan, currently living near Baltimore.

I miss fresh corn, Texmex, Coney's, Faygo pop, Bell's Brewery, fresh picked Wild Blueberries, decent BBQ, Greek food, and Middle Eastern food (Lebanese). Oh and from MSU specifically I miss dubs, blazer dub ftmfw.

WTF!? Go to Greek town for Greek food. MD has great corn. It should be coming in in a month or so. Blueberries are done, but the blackberries are in, and there's still some raspberries left.

Oh really? I've only been here a couple months, so I didn't know that.

Yumurtalı ekmek?

It doesn't really look familiar, I'd only be able to tell by taste. I should find someplace local that may have it.

Actually looking up more info, that may be it.

This is similar to what I remember and the same bread type:

Hop on Eastern Ave. in Baltimore. Lots of Greek food around Highlandtown. After eating there, you can keep on getting it west, and make a left on Broadway to Fells Point. It used to be a cool place to drink, and probably still is, but I haven't been in awhile. I noticed it was losing some of it's gritty character, but I suppose it depends on your perspective :^)

New York City has a population of 8 million. New York State has a population of 19 million. :hmm:

But of the remaining 11million... how many don't live in NYC because they don't want to?

I'd say of those 11million... 10million wish they lived in NYC.

:colbert:

I moved away from SoCal area for a couple years. That made me realize that there is nothing like SoCal, and here in the LA area because we have practically every ethnicity here which means we have awesome food.

As a Native New Yorker displaced in Colorado...
I miss..
Black & White Cookies
Pastrami On Rye with Deli Mustard
Garlic Half Sours
Overstuffed Sandwiches from Ben's Deli
Stuffed Cabbage
A Burger from All American
Juniors Cheesecake

almost forgot..
Jumbo Street Pretzles
Good Jerk Chicken
Beef Patty & Coco Bread

So... what do you miss?

you know you can get junior's shipped to you overnight right?

I miss decent fish tacos probably most of all. Would be nice to be able to hit up Langer's on a whim also.

I've visited SoCal and LA a couple times. I love it, and someday hope I can move out there. I'd miss Maine a ton, but, I want to experience living in the LA area.

I'm thinking the only foods from Jersey that I'd miss if I moved are taylor ham, bagels, and fresh Pechter's rye bread (I live a few blocks away from their factory).

oh, and pizza naturally. I actually like Jersey pizza more than NYC pizza (NYC pies seem to always be a lot more crispy bordering on burnt)

From the San Francisco Bay Area, moved to Raleigh, NC

Miss:
Sourdough bread
Seafood that isn't fried
Good Mexican food
Good Chinese food

Bagels and Pizza are the two things you CANNOT find outside of the Tri-State area, that are even remotely close.

Yes, there are places here that serve "New York Style" Pizza or Bagels... but without the WATER... it's not the same.

Being originally from UPSTATE New York, I miss Zweigle's white hots (aka "Pork Hots", which I make certain to get some every time I'm home for a visit), and Genesee Cream Ale (can't stand their regular or lite beer, but love me a Genny Cream!! ). I'm lucky, though, as I can occasionally find it here in north TX.

And, like Bignate603 said, some classic Italian food, as well as any wine (with grapes grown and pressed in NY state) or apples from NY. Always thought it was hilarious that people considered Washington state to be known for apples, when they grow *MAYBE* four varieties there, versus 8 or 10 types of apples grown in NY. 😎

I can't stand Cream Ale, but my roommates for some reason like it.

Most of my friends who go to college out of state say they miss garbage plates. Whenever they come back to visit, they need their garbage plate fix.

Every time I go back to the family area, I get my fix of:

Yuma-setta
Mashed potatoes with homemade noodles
Rivvels
Stirred eggs (ruehrei)
puff cookies
Scrapple with apple butter
Buttermilk pie
Pretzel pudding
Fry pies
Ballreich's Potato Chips

Fortunately I don't go back too often, or I'd be fat and dead. But HAPPY.
