Please....for the sake of the people that live(d) in the remaining 95% of NY state, refer to yourself as a "New York Citier". Most of the rest of us don't have any idea what half that stuff you listed is, since it's "native" to NYC area ONLY.


Being originally from UPSTATE New York, I miss Zweigle's white hots (aka "Pork Hots", which I make certain to get some every time I'm home for a visit), and Genesee Cream Ale (can't stand their regular or lite beer, but love me a Genny Cream!! :wub: ). I'm lucky, though, as I can occasionally find it here in north TX. :thumbsup:

And, like Bignate603 said, some classic Italian food, as well as any wine (with grapes grown and pressed in NY state) or apples from NY. Always thought it was hilarious that people considered Washington state to be known for apples, when they grow *MAYBE* four varieties there, versus 8 or 10 types of apples grown in NY.

It's just crusty bread.

Cretona and croutons are not the same thing.

Cretons is seasoned ground pork & onions in pork jelly. You spread that on bread.

WNY person in NC. Really miss beef on weck. Can't even find kimmelweck rolls. Also miss good Italian food but having lots of restaurants that aren't Italian restaurants kind of makes up for it (it seems like EVERY restaurant in WNY is an Italian place -- hyperbole of course). I do miss really good wings, but at least you can find an almost good impersonation.

none of that SF stuff matters anymore!

and FWIW, the Mexican food here really is a joke compared to SoCal. At least, I find it not much better than many of the joints littered around Raleigh. At least there are a few great Indian places there, now.

My dad was a USAF lifer, so I grew up always on the move...then as an adult, I chased construction...always on the move.
I've lived in this house for 12 years, and in the area for 24 years...longer than I've ever lived anywhere in my life.
I guess this is my homeland...

Ah well...as least we have some VERY GOOD Mexican restaurants here.

Tough one...Not really. I don't remember a whole lot from the time I spent in Mass. as a kid...except going into the neighboring town for the big Polish festival and eating kielbasa, potatoes and freshly baked bread in the park...
I lived in a VERY Italian neighborhood...so the Italian food was always good...much better than most restaurants.
Sadly, I hear that city has turned into a real cesspool in recent years.

Many of the places we lived as an adult were little hole-in-the wall towns...where the population tripled because of the construction job...so they had no decent restaurants.
