Hey! Good to see you here and welcome to the forums
Btw I saw you're a long way ahead of me in F@H, no chance of catching you there!
Thanks again :)

Oh, once you have a new GPU you'll instantly have a much higher PPD than I have and be catching up. I still can't decide what to get... RTX 3080 Ti is not even released (and I still have to see the price tag), the new Radeons are not for me, and nothing that's already released can be had for reasonable prices... Out of curiosity I might look into Intel's DG2, but that's also in the distant future. I guess I'll stick with my good ol' GTX TITAN X for a little while longer, maybe even most of this year. With the new CUDA capable F@H core it got bumped over the 1M PPD threshold.

I saw a release date of Feb. which means you can get one by May
or June if your lucky. I also saw a price of 1K, which means 1,200 to
1,299.
I’ve got some bad news for you on the 3080ti release date:

And on the expected price:

Seems like a good day to bump this thread to see if anybody else wants to sign up before it starts :)

I got my machines ready today for the most part, so I'm ready to go. I ran into some somewhat minor challenges, so if you haven't ran FAH for awhile it may be worth running it to make sure everything is ready to go.

In 24 hours, I'll be collecting "time 0" stats so start your engines. :)

So, the thing starts at 5:00 AM on Saturday morning where I am. I won't be waking up for the starting gun. Presumably with the stats lag, it would be okay to get them all running before bed tonight?

That's my plan. I actually started them last night and left them running to give me a day if any issues come up, but I was planning on just leaving them run until it starts.

Yeah, I've been busy getting going on some projects that I've been neglecting, so I'm waiting until the last minute.

Just got the 5950 running on F@H. Currently shows an estimate of 400k ppd. Not amazing, but more than double the ppd of the old hardware for half the power draw.
I know you are just playing with your new toy, but ppd/watt, the 2060 was king, at about 200 watts and 2 million ppd. I would have to recalibrate though, since the 2080ti is 300-350 ?? and does about 5 million ppd.

Yeah, just playing with the toy, after this race I’m pulling it off of F@H. I’ve been leaving my 1080ti on F@H and it’s the only video card I have. I want to grab a 3080, but that still seems to be pi in the sky due to availability. I may cave and get an expensive 3090...

Those SMT work units will do better on Linux. :)
It’s plausible I may dual boot the machine. What in would really like to to run something where I can spin up a windows VM and pass through my video card and a nvme drive to it for playing games and any other random thing I need to do in windows. Then, just stop the windows VM and reallocate the video card to Linux for disturbed computing when I’m not actively at the PC. Dual booting would be way easier :D

Is there an easy way to verify that it's running the tasks as CUDA and not OpenCL? I'm not seeing even close to 5 million PPD(much closer to 3.5 million) on a 2080ti so I was wondering if it may not be running the CUDA FAH app.

PPD is Varying wildly right now. My 1080ti can vary 500k ppd easily...

It looks like in the Foldin@home log it will say something like '23:31:03:WU00:FS01:0x22: Using CUDA and gpu 0'. It showed that on one that it was working on correctly while another showed an error about a missing CUDA file. The one that wasn't working I just uninstalled the CUDA Toolkit I had installed for something else and it seems to be working now.

I'm putting together a stats spreadsheet so I finalized the list of participants from Team Anandtech. Time Zero stats will be recorded in ~2.5 hours.
