I think you need to re-read the article. It wasn't "several people" it was one woman's statement that several people were offended, not several people's statments that they were offended. I guess little details like that don't matter though, eh?

I saw a news program today where there were a couple of Passengers on who were offended and who stated that most others on the flight were bothered. In fact when that wacko asked for the Christians to raise their hands not one passenger raised their hands. On the other hand many passengers got on their cell phones to call their loved ones because they were frightened by the announcement!

First of all there are exceptions to Free Speech, like yelling "fire" ina crowded theater. For someone who is afraid to fly, this pilot's question is tantamount to that, IMHO.

But beyond that, there is the issue of the rules and regulations that pertain to a pilot, both from the company he works for and the FAA. I'm fairly sure that in that context there are limits on his freedom of speech.

Why? That would be my question. Not that people can't express themselves but WHERE did this guy get to thinking this is a good idea. Point out the exits and make a comment about the altitude. Most people on the plane I would imagine don't care to have to explain themselves just because the pilot was born again. He should put on a robe and go to a mall if this was is his thing.
