Oh, and for anyone who wants to bring up the whole "captive audience argument" don't bother. Every single person chose to be on that flight and, last time I checked this was still the U.S. of A. and we still have a First Amendment which guarantees the right to free speech and religion.
As far as the "appropriateness" of his comments (i.e. timing or wording) I'm not aware of any law which prohibits doing such a thing on an airplane, and even if there was it would be unconstitutional anyway.

you would be singing a different tune if someone came to your church bake sale and decided to talk about the wonders of satan

Last I knew, an airplane wasn't a CHURCH meant for PREACHING!

And "crazy non-Christians"? I would rather not be insulted by some relgious zealot, thanks.

ROFLES! That's the weakest argument I've heard in a long time. Thanks for tossing me a slow ball, Conjur. I guess you just missed that whole "First Amendment" thing eh? Or does the Constitution stop when you board an airplane?

I'm christian and I would be really pissed, mostly because I hate being forced to talk to people. "Let's introduce ourselves to eachother." I don't give a flying fvck about the people around me.

Let me get this straight: you're a Christian, yet you make jokes about murdering people, and you "don't give a flying fvck about the people around you". Sorry, I think Jesus might just disagree with you on that one. Call yourself whatever you like, your fruits speak for themselves. We are to judge a man by his fruits, after all, and yours aren't smelling too peachy ATM.

Impossible. I don't attend the Church of Babylon so you'll be hard-pressed to find me at any of the apostate churches in this world. Feel free to talk about Satan all you like, that's your G-d-given right.

Since when is it ok to preach on an airplane? Is it now the Church of American Airlines? If so, I'll be sure to never fly using them. The pilot should fly the plane, announce various bit of information pertaining to the flight and, otherwise, keep his fvcking mouth shut!

Guess I'll just pop into your holier-than-thou ultra-fundamentalist church one day and start reading from scientific texts on evolution or promoting Buddhism or something.

Why is it wrong for this man to make a suggestion people discuss their religious beliefs onboard an airplane? He's PIC, and he has final authority to do whatever he wants on that aircraft, end of story. Not only that, but it's his G-d-given right, protected by the Constitution of this country. It's not as though he used words which would "incite a riot" or anything along those lines, all he did was make a suggestion. You people are ready to crucify this man for daring to suggest people discuss religion on an airplane! "How dare he! Burn him, crucify him, chop his nuts off!"

LOL! I've said it before and I'll say it again: you can try and use scripture against a servant of G-d all day long but you'll never succeed.
This is one of the most over-used arguments in existance and also one of the weakest.
If you even read what you quoted you might have understood the significance behind that... Jesus said men are to be judged by their fruits. I have made no condemnation, and I have commited no wrong against this man for doing as the L-rd Yeshua has commanded.
Thanks for the insults, BTW. It really fits well with your "don't judge people" comment. Hypocrite.

Jesus Christ...of course one zealot is going to look blindly past another zealot's actions:

Passenger Amanda Nelligan told WCBS-TV of New York that the pilot called non-Christians "crazy"

Insulting the passengers???

Even the American Airlines spokesman said it's inappropriate:

"It falls along the lines of a personal level of sharing that may not be appropriate for one of our employees to do while on the job," he said earlier.

Again, flyermax, if people want to be preached to, they'll go to church. Otherwise, STFU.

Hello, McFlyermax2k3 ...
rolleye.gif

It's not illegal. Just inappropriate. I'm briefing a large group of people @ work tomorrow. If I started off my briefing the same way this pilot did, I'd be having a serious conversation with my boss. There is a time & place for this sort of thing, and that isn't it. You're just alienating/pissing off a certain percentage of your paying customers, and embarrasing most of the rest of them. Unless we all become fundies, it's not good for business.

You're right I'm a zealot. The L-rd commands us to be zealots for Him. You can condemn me for that all day long and I'll be glad to accept your condemnations as such. I love the L-rd and I'm not afraid to admit that.
Here's the problem with your argument: you're the one making oversights here, not me. One person says she felt threatened. One. You're basing the account of events onboard that aircraft on the word of a single person. I can tell you one thing right now that would never stand up in court.
Also, your quote of the American Airlines spokesman said "may not be appropriate" not "was absolutely inappropriate". See the difference? I guarantee that if anything happens to this pilot because of this AA will be in for a world of hurt.

Ok, I take back my comment calling dtyn an idiot.

Flyermax, are you an idiot or just stupid?

Nobody cares what he beleives, nobody cares what you believe. It's MY god given right to believe what I want, and I shouldn't have to sit here and listen to you or ANYONE tell me I should believe something else.

I can say for a fact that you would be on the opposite side of this argument if he came on the intercom and asked all straight people to raise their hand and then suggested that homosexuals talk to them for guidance.

It doesn't matter if you agree with me or not, the fact of the matter is I still have the right to believe and say whatever I like, just as my other fellow pilot does.
As for your scenario (homosexuals vs. heterosexuals) you're right, but that didn't happen so what's your point? You can sit there all day long and come up with hypothetical scenarios where I'd be on the "other" side of the argument but they have absolutely nothing to do with what actually occurred so what's your point? There are two sides to every argument, and both sides have the right to express said argument. End of story.

AA could can him if he keeps it up. When the pilot is making his announcement at the beginning of the flight, he is speaking on behalf of American Airlines. If AA doesn't condone that speech, and he keeps it up, he'll be gone. He's free to prostelize all he wants on his own time, but not as a representative of his employer. No, it's not illegal, just a condition of his continued employment.

I understand that better than you imagine. AA still isn't going to fire this man for his actions though, and if they do, they'll be commiting suicide, essentially.

You're just wacko.

Yeah, I think we all realize you're not a Christian. That's blatently obvious. I'll thank you to stop cursing at me and insulting me now, as well. I've refrained from doing such, why can't you?
I agree, he shouldn't have called you a dumbfvck. Wacko, on the other hand, is not an insult but an astute observation!

That's just your opinion, but I'll concur. I certainly am a whacko in the eyes of those that haven't received the truth of Salvation.
Your Religious activism would make even a member of the Wahbi Sect envious!

You're right I'm a zealot. The L-rd commands us to be zealots for Him. You can condemn me for that all day long and I'll be glad to accept your condemnations as such. I love the L-rd and I'm not afraid to admit that.

Good...but KEEP IT TO YOURSELF! We don't fvcking care! Neither do the passengers of aircraft.

Here's the problem with your argument: you're the one making oversights here, not me. One person says she felt threatened. One. You're basing the account of events onboard that aircraft on the word of a single person. I can tell you one thing right now that would never stand up in court.

"She said she and several others aboard were so worried they tried to call relatives on their cell phones before flight attendants assured them they were safe and that people on the ground had been notified about the pilot's comments. "

Also, your quote of the American Airlines spokesman said "may not be appropriate" not "was absolutely inappropriate". See the difference?

Where did I say "was absolutely inappropriate"? Hmmm??

I guarantee that if anything happens to this pilot because of this AA will be in for a world of hurt.

Why?

I think the opposite is true.

If you don't care, don't read what I have to say. Just because you and "others" don't care, doesn't mean I no longer have the right to express my opinion. I suppose it does if you're a communist or a fascist, but otherwise it doesn't. Are you a communist or a fascist? I doubt it so why do you think your opinion is any more valid than mine?
Re: that *one* woman's comments, she's just one person, yet she speaks for the entire group? How do you know she's not just saying that because she thinks she can get money out of it? You don't, nor do I. I would be wary of basing an opinion entirely off of the comments of a single person, but that's just me...
Re: AA being in for a world of hurt, the ACLU *should* be all over this one if any action is taken against this pilot (they may not though, knowing their anti-christian stances they've taken in the past) and even if they don't, I can guarantee you AA will be boycotted because of it. How is that *not* a world of hurt?
