Protecting your life isn't trigger happy. It's smart.

Old guy could have died from one punch from the thug.

Don't attack other people and you won't get dead.

And if the murderer was a 20 year old black kid instead of an elderly white guy , I'm sure your thug label would be reversed pretty quickly.

This is why you should think twice before confronting some defenseless old man. Plenty of legal ways to shoot someone in this country. Of course it's not an issue unless you're a thug bully making a habit of going around trying to intimidate old people.

Yeah, yeah I already heard that from the person I quoted and was replying to. I noticed that you have a very strange habit of logging in and answering Spidey's posts for him. Is there a seam or break in the skin that informs the readers where his dick ends and your mouth begins? :whiste:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/fla-deadly-theater-shooting-texting-son-article-1.1720738

The former Florida police officer accused of fatally shooting a moviegoer because he was texting was also texting only minutes before pulling the trigger, court documents have revealed.
http://www.latimes.com/nation/natio...ct-sent-text-message-20140313,0,7787069.story

A man who shot a fellow Florida theater-goer in a dispute over the victim's texting sent a text message himself minutes before the fatal gunfire, according to records obtained this week by news organizations.
Curtis Reeves, a 71-year-old former police captain who has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in central Florida’s Pasco-Pinellas counties court, sent a text message to his son from the Cobb Grove 16 theaters in Wesley Chapel, Fla., the Associated Press and other media reported Thursday.

The son, Matthew Reeves, told investigators after the Jan. 13 shooting that he texted his father to let him know that he was running late for the afternoon “Lone Survivor” showing. The elder Reeves replied by text message that he and his wife had already taken their seats. The son reportedly walked into the theater as the single shot was fired.
Holy Fucking Hypocrititis Batman. Just throw him in jail and throw away the fucking key.

He wasn't shot for texting.

He was shot because he attacked a senior citizen as his wife attempted to restrain his assault as proven by video

I demand a thread title change, because the title is a flat out lie.

No different than people who refuse to acknowledge that trayvon wasn't shot for holding watermelon drink and skittles.

Don't want to get shot in the US? Don't intentionally cause other people to fear for their lives. It's such a ridiculously simple concept, I don't understand why it's so difficult for some people.

This was not a random shooting. This was a young buck antagonizing an old man to the point of causing him to legally fear for his life.

This one just so happened to be legal.... But, when you're bullying some poor old person, keep in mind that legal won't matter much if you're dead with a widow and child left behind.

That picture has nothing to do with stand your ground laws.

Stand your ground was developed to protect innocent people from bullies and thugs. It's a good law, that's even stood up to trayvon martin and jordan davis' family trying to get it repealed.

It's not gonna happen. People are fed up with thugs and thug mentality. CCW rates are skyrocketing. It's all a result of people like trayvon/jordan and now this young buck.

Just because I am curious where is the assault line drawn in your opinion SpatiallyAware? Could I be justified shooting someone for:

Yelling at me with a raised fist and bad words?
Two suspicious looking Arab guys who look like they might have a gun or a bomb that are yelling at me?
A High school kid that had a young mafia shirt on and spit some gum on the sidewalk near me?
Someone in a car this is driving real fast and almost hit me while I was in the crosswalk that may be turning around to make another pass at me?
A shadowy figure in my back yard that looks like it may have a knife?
A shadowy figure in my neighbors yard that looks like it may have a shot gun?
A guy who looks like a MMA fighter that intentionally bumps into me to get to the front of a line then gives me a threatening look?
A prostitute that is standing too close to me when I am waiting for a train?
Some random guy on the street who throws something, he may have been aiming for the trash but I'm not sure it hit my back and I don't know what it was or if he has something else to throw?
A guy in a football stadium that pushes me who looks drunk and dangerous?

Yes, depends on what they say and if they are capable of carrying out the threat
Two suspicious looking Arab guys who look like they might have a gun or a bomb that are yelling at me?
Yes, depends on what they say and if they are capable of the threat
A High school kid that had a young mafia shirt on and spit some gum on the sidewalk near me?
No
Someone in a car this is driving real fast and almost hit me while I was in the crosswalk that may be turning around to make another pass at me?
Possible, a car is a deadly weapon
A shadowy figure in my back yard that looks like it may have a knife?
Get's iffy here and would depend on what they are doing and if they were in range to attack with a knife, say 20 feet.
A shadowy figure in my neighbors yard that looks like it may have a shot gun?
Depends on if they aim the weapon at you and what they are doing
A guy who looks like a MMA fighter that intentionally bumps into me to get to the front of a line then gives me a threatening look?
Would depend on if any verbal threats were made
A prostitute that is standing too close to me when I am waiting for a train?
No
Some random guy on the street who throws something, he may have been aiming for the trash but I'm not sure it hit my back and I don't know what it was or if he has something else to throw?
Depends on if the object thrown has the capacity to cause great bodily harm or death like a brick and if there is something else in his hands attempting to throw it.
A guy in a football stadium that pushes me who looks drunk and dangerous?
Depends on what he says and if he can carry out the threat

Many of your exact scenarios are covered in CCDW classes. The threat to life or great bodily harm must be:

1) Imminent
2) Capable of inflicting GBH or death. Disparity of force comes into play here, the usual example is a younger stronger man against somebody not able to physically defend themselves like the elderly or female.
3) Credible - meaning would a reasonable person deem the threat to be credible.

He has made himself pretty clear on that topic. Whoever the fuck you want.

Imma thinking of shooting my librarian, her breath is so bad that it rises to the level of physical assault everytime she breathes on me. I think I will hire Spatially to represent me at trial. He can eloquently argue how I had a right to stand my ground.

I demand a thread title change, because the title is a flat out lie.

And you're the liar. And an idiot. Which will be proven shortly when Reeves is convicted and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.

And all 3 of these criteria were clearly lacking in this incident.

I believe in the right to self-defense as much as anyone and probably more than you do. But it HAS TO BE self-defense. Otherwise, it's murder.

Honestly, I don't see this debate as worth arguing over. I'll revisit this thread after the conviction.

The entire incident occurred before the movie started.

It started during the movie previews. After the lights are off, and people are supposed to be seated. After the "Please be respectful and turn off your phone" messages.

It says a LOT that the young buck's wife had to hold him back. Clearly she knew who the aggressor was.

The video makes it pretty damn clear

1) Imminent. Yes, the aggressor who grabbed something from the elder's possession and threw it at him was still advancing even though the wife was attempting to restrain him. Plus the Senior was unable to retreat
2) Capable. Yes, he had already assaulted the elder
3) Credible. Yes, an aggressive person who has already assaulted you and is still advancing is certainly credible.

All three criteria were meat for deadly force to be justified.

Oh of course in your bizarro fucked world texting is a capital crime.

The guy is still a hypocrite

...

Let's be clear here. I don't think the shooting was justified. I've states that several times in the threads this comes up in.

My only point here is that minutes allows for one to be texting while the lights are on and the other texting during the previews.

404 Hypocrisy not found. But rage on brother.

I don't know who's more mentally unstable, spatially demented or spidey. I am SO fucking glad I don't have to live in your world. It must be tiring to live in perpetual fear and/or feeling like you MUST carry a gun to be safe, or just itching at a chance to fire off a "good shoot"

Sounds like any dispute is deadly force.

I do not want or expect simple assault to be enough, or does age grant him extra privilege to shoot first? Yes, first. Before aggravated assault and battery. Or maybe he was scared that it could happen. So if you piss your pants you can kill anyone you get into an argument with.

Ah the mind of a liberal. Anything you prepare for, you must live in constant fear of.

I suppose that means every liberal car driver lives in constant fear of being in a wreck since their cars come with airbags, right?

Guess what? I bought a pizza stone last night, and it wasn't that I was in perpetual fear that I would burn the bottom crust either. Crazy, huh?

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the obviously paranoid and racist world that spidey and spatiallyaware live in. Those guys are genuinely mentally ill.
