Florida Man Is Shot to Death for Texting During Movie Previews

There was a fair number of people there, that one guy was close enough for the victim to fall on him, and I'm sure a lot of people were watching this fight and not the previews. For once there should actually be reliable witness account.

People need to learn to be polite and exit the theater, do your texting business, then return to your seat. Just because he was shot dead doesn't excuse him for being an inconsiderate jackass.

As much as you think other people are crazy - why do you feel the need to defend him?

Same scenario, no gun present, the news headline would be about what an asshole this guy was texting in a theater and refusing to stop when asked to stop.

It was the previews. No one normally gives a shit during the previews.

Of course he didn't learn a lesson, he's dead. Kind of amazed at how many people seem to think that this guy had it coming. It's not cool and all when someone's disrupting your movie but they don't deserve to die over it. There were 25 people in the theater, I doubt it was packed tight, I'm sure the old guy could have found somewhere else to sit. This wasn't even during the movie proper, just the previews...

Nonetheless, I think it goes to show that it doesn't pay to escalate arguments with total strangers. If you pissed off someone you don't know say you're sorry and stop doing whatever you were doing. Don't get in some shouting match that could end with a bullet in your chest.

Gee, maybe the guy using his phone could have got up and went to the lobby to text his kid.

After which the dead guy decided to pick a fight with the old man for doing so. Including apparently escalating the confrontation to throw projectiles into his face

Seems like a good shoot, if so.

You gun grabbers better think long and hard before getting your pitchforks out.... If witnesses state that the rude texter swung at the former cop = good shoot.

Yeah, throwing projectiles into his face. Guess the texter brought his ninja stars with him to the theater that day.

For spatially it will come down to whether the guy getting shot was white or black. Sorry to burst your bubble, he was middle class white.

The shooter on the other hand looked like your typical right wing stasi douche bag loner control freak.

I know you're a douchebag, but you really shouldn't defend a murderer.

I don't think this or any other freak occurrences of crazy people shooting others over something stupid warrants taking everyone's guns away. But the people defending this aren't doing a great job supporting concealed carry.

I agree. Freedom requires accountability. In order for me to defend my own right to concealed carry, I must denounce those who abuse that right.

Stats: on average 43 people are murdered in the U.S. every single day. It's not possible to grieve and be saddened for them all. Your life would be overwhelmed by misery. So yea, sorry, am not saddened by this shooting of someone I don't know. And neither are you guys. You just say all the "right" things because that's the attention you want from others, to be known as the guy who cares - regardless of whether it's true or not.

You do realize that texting results in no noise right?

He was standing his ground against a guy who was throwing projectiles in his face. Legally good shoot.

Considering he's already been charged with murder, it seems that law enforcement doesn't agree with your assessment that thrown popcorn kernels constitute a deadly threat.

A super bright phone screen is hugely distracting, noise or no noise.

It's a friggin movie theater. I fail to understand how the dreggs of our society seem to think it's acceptable to be using their phone - period. Text before you enter a dark theater. Can you really not figure your life out straight enough before sitting down for a movie?

I miss the days of theaters using cell jammers.

Well people have choked to death on popcorn before. Perhaps the shooter was afraid one of the kernels would land in his mouth and choke him to death. When you are a cop or retired cop, every shooting is justified as long as you are doing the shooting.

Don't like it? Don't get in to altercations with people asking you to quit being an asshole and put your phone away so others can enjoy the movie.

I hate rude people who misuse their phones in public as much as anyone, but are we seriously proposing that vigilante killings are how we want to deal with that?

Oh no no no, once he was struck with a bag of popcorn it's ON SON.
