The Princos will only burn at 2x with the hacked firmware. And of the 15 or so I tried at 2x, only about 5 worked, and 4 of those were very small (less than 1g). You should have gotten the Ritek's. I've burned 50 at 2x, no coasters (used for xbox & dvd player). Got another 100 on the way. I've had to toss about 20% of the princo's. Mostly because they failed verification (at 1x, using RecordNow). Not 1 single ritek has given me any problems. worth the extra $.20 each in my opinion.

Prices should drop soon, i think dvdr's would replace cdrs soon as the prices of the burners drop

There's a deal going on at Compusa right now on a 4-pack TDK DVD-R (2X Rated) for $8.99. Roughly $2 each.

I just bought a Sony DRU500A so I'm gonna try these TDKs first before I drop more money into DVD recordable media

here is something that many of you might like:
dvd-r trial pack
5 pairs of dvd-rs of different brand to try out in your burner before you buy bulk. Only $17.99

I cant vouch this retailer, I just found them on google

Just as an fyi: (stolen from the doom9 forum link to post)

These 3 stores are operated by the same company:

99% of the products are the same, pictures of the product are the same, they are all three "yahoo stores" with "top service" -- give me a break... and their address are almost the same. They all of them send you a "weekly sale" on Monday. What do you need more ??

I've done a number of orders with them via the CDRDVDRMEDIA.com site and have never had a problem. I don't think they are fly-by-night. One satisfied customer doesn't mean much and I haven't found any sites with a lot of feedback. http://www.resellerratings.com has only 3 reports for the cdrdvdrmedia name and 17 for meritline. The feedback seems to mirror my experience.

As for the Monday sales, I unsubscribed and don't keep track of those.

I've been having problems with every single ritek dvd-r that's I've burned. I have the Cendyne dvr-104 and burning with Nero 5.5.9.17. On every full dvd, I can't read the last gig of data. So for me, these dvds are effectively 3.7gb... I have yet to try Princos though. I'm sure the drive is fine as I've returned it and still have the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, been a long time reader. Just want to have some opinions on some 2x dvd-r that i got from Rima months ago. The brand name is Prodisc, I've bought them because the dvd-r was recently certified from the Pioneer Class A Lab.

Are there any sites that review DVD-R media? I've heard a lot of people say that the Ritek and Princo DVD-R's don't always burn correctly on the last GB of the dvd and that is unacceptable for my purposes. Anyone know more about this? Thanks.

joburnet,

vcdhelp has not too long ago added a section for users to share their experiences with different DVD medias. Of course this is always in flux, but I guess it will give you at least an idea and you will know what worked for other people and what didn't.

I know the latest firmware for the A104 will allow 2X burning on 1X Riteks, but what about Pioneer's new DVR-105? Anyone have this 4X drive?

How about the true 2x rated Optodisc DVD-R for $50 (a spindle of 50) at NewEgg? I don't know if they are any good, though...

I burn the riteks at 2x for my PS2 games, and they work great. Of course this is on a V5(which has the best laser) but haven't had one coaster.

Reviving the thread for new owners of cendyne dvd-r/rw .....

Most places have either increased the prices or don't have ritek in stock. The best I could find was $79 for 100 (don't know about shipping) at www.rima.com . Anyone knows of a better deal ?
