haha. it is still waiting for shipment at the fedex facility?

thanks guys for the case specs (fans). i was wondering if you think cooling is sufficient. the air intake on the front bottom seems pretty dumb (unusable if it's on carpet), and the back 2 are good-but where's the intake?

The MSI X48-A CDRW/DVD Combo would look good in the 6029 with the smoked plastic bezel on it. I've got it in my 5929 with the beige bezel and smoked tray front and it looks maaahvelous!
. Shouldn't set computer directly on carpet anyway. I have a 1.5x3' sheet of painted plywood I put under my confusers. Besides, if you only put an 80mm fan in the front, it'll at least circulate case air. You''d have to block the rest of the 120mm grille to make sure it just brought in fresh air.

Got mine on friday, and already built two systems. the delta psu's ROCK! totally quiet, I thought it wasn't working at one point because I didn't hear the fan...simply amazing. I'm glad I got 5.

Kicking myself for not getting one of the ones for $25, IMO they looked great and am having a hard time finding something comparable for 2x the price!

My CF-6029 case arrived today (after sitting in limbo at my FedEx office for an extra day to ensure a three working day shipping time). No physical damage to my case during transit, but the assembler was a little overzealous with the epoxy. Way too much was used to mount the power switches and LEDs on the front, so the front bezel will not come off without me breaking it. This is going to make mounting a front fan a bit complicated since I will have to insert longer screws backwards. Everything else seems great on this non-flimsy case. Only two mounting screws were found on the plate when I opened it up, but there were several more in the bag o' screws.

Just a warning: Everyone check their PSUs. The one that came in the mATX case I received was shorting out to the case, causing lockups. I only discovered the problem when I was moving Alice (adjusting the position to get better lighting in the case to see if something inside was loose or mis-jumpered) and touched Konoko (another machine running at the time). Got a very minor zap (akin to sticking a 9 volt battery on your tongue). Swapping out the PSU with a spare iCute 400w I had handy took care of the problem (verified both by increased system uptime (not locking up after a few hours now) and by bridging between Alice and Konoko with my hand, and not getting even a tingle).

Still haven't decided whether to keep the PSU and see if I can locate the grounding point inside, or try to get warranty service on it.

Forget about mounting a fan up front with the flat-faced 6029 or 2529. The fan would be trying to suck air through very small slit on the bottom front of the case. I cut out the speaker grill on the bottom, covered the hole with a 70mm grill (mounted inside), and put 1/2" tall feet on the case (to keep the airhole above any carpeting). Now the case has good airflow, and my hard drive runs cool, (the bottom hd bay is right over the hole). I also cut out the exhaust grills on the back and replaced them with less restrictive and good looking $1 chrome wire grills. Nice solid cases, that just needed a little work to fix the cool air intake.

bah, fedex wants me to pickup the case at their warehouse now.

pathethic,
-they take the money for shipping
-make some half arssed attempts to deliver, if they actually did attempt delivery
-no notices of attempted delievery left or anything to confirm that they actually did anything
-now i have to drive farther than newegg to pick it up, 1 1/2 weeks after ordering

good job fedex, your drivers/delivery people in socal SUCK :disgust:

Davros,
. If it's anything like mine, the 6029 is glued with hot glue - really doesn't stick to metal all that well and cuts fairly easily. Should be able to get your bezel off without too much trouble.

If it's just hot-glue stuck to metal, heat up that area of the case with a hair-dryer. Don't blame me if you melt something though.

I spent about 30 minutes with a flat-head screwdriver and carefully cut away as much extra epoxy/glue as possible. The bezel finally came free, but I broke the reboot button in the process (had to twist the panel to get it free). Luckily it was Superglue repairable. Stuck a 120mm fan in the front and didn't change the cooling capacity of the case very much (2500+ Barton still hits 55-56 deg C at load). Replay's suggestion may get used when I start to overclock.

Cheap airflow fix I'd forgotten to mention: Take out one or two PCI expansion slot covers and leave them open. Try taking out the bottom PCI cover, and maybe the cover next to a hot AGP card. This is almost as good as cool air from the front of the case, it just doesn't bring as much air over the drive bays. This fix will lower the cpu temps if the case is too hot now.

The Delta PSU fan is very quiet, and very slow. It does not move much air at all, so both 80mm exhaust ports are being used on my rigs (after cutting them open to install chrome grills). Too bad that 120mm front fan mount is so useless, but cutting out the speaker grill, and raising the case, worked for me. Dual exhausts allow for two quiet fans, (much better than having just one loud fan), drawing in plenty of cool air and blow out the hot stuff.

The supplied 4-pin TopMotor 80mm fan is slow and silent at 5V, quiet and stronger at 7V, but too loud for me at the normal 12V.

I noticed that the PSU that came with my case was missing a -5V line. How about yours? The pictures are gone so I can't look it up to see if it's supposed to be there. Did anyone save a copy of the PSU pic?

No -5V line to the ATX plug on any of the five power supplies I received. All of the power supplies are working fine for me, on three different Athlon boards. If you really need -5v it should be simple to tap the -12v line (run it into a 7905 voltage regulator, use a zener diode. or a dc-dc converter).

-5v line not shown on the label or in the specs (I linked to a spec sheet in my 1st post)

Output voltage Load range Regulation Ripple & noise
Min. Max. Surge <30s (%) Vpp
+5V 0.5A 25A 30A -5%~ +5% 50mV
+3.3V 0.3A 25A 28A -5%~ +5% 50mV
+12V 1A 15A 18A -5%~ +5% 120mV
-12V 0A 0.8A -10%~ +10% 120mV
+5Vsb 0A 2A 3A -5%~ +5% 50mV

The delivery guy is weird sometimes and won't ring the door bell. I was home for hours and heard no door bell. Some of them need lessons in pushing the door bell. I have had this happen to me a couple of times.

same thing happens with UPS for me :( I kinda like Fedex since I'm 5 minutes from their package station.

I could be wrong but I dont think there has been a use for -5V since the ISA slot went away.
