Five Guys hype

One thing about 5 guys is the portions are ridiculously over-sized. I struggle to finish a little cheeseburger and split a regular fry with my wife. Not sure what lard body actually eats a large cheeseburger and bag of fries in one sitting.

I've tried S&S a few times. Burger was greasy and didn't really taste good. The fries were consistently awful...like completely inedible kind of awful. I'm not even exaggerating. Apparently, some people like fries like that. I do not.

I'll try their burgers again some day. They're always sending sheets of coupons in the mail and I just throw them away.

Steak 'n Shake is terrible. They have awful fries. 0/10.

In N Out is the best burger chain. Unfortunately, if you don't live on the west coast, you won't experience this.

Steak 'n Shake is a good if you want a classic diner burger. Lots of options too. Their fries are good too if you like old school shoestring fries.

I've only really had access to smash burger and five guys. Between the two, my preference is 5 guys.

However, having been to 5 guys numerous times over a 2 year span, some days are better than others. Some days the fries are undercooked or soggy.

The burgers for me are consistently good. Not earth shatteringly good, but a better fast food burger than McDonalds/Burger King.

Chipotle for me is pretty much always enjoyable. Not true Mexican food of course, but with a few different salsas on a burrito you can get a good amount of flavor with some reasonably good protein.

Honestly, these types of places are aimed at being a moderate step up from McDonalds and Taco Bell. They accomplish that, IMO. Their food seems to be more natural and not some processed frozen crap. Is it the best food I have ever had? No, but they're consistently better than other fast food joints.
 
Best local burger I've had was at longhorn steakhouse. Can't remember the name but it was a 1/2 lb burger, had shaved prime rib on top and something else served with the cheese garlic fries.
 
They are one of the better fast food places but I've found myself avoiding most of them nowadays. Last time I ate there it messed with my stomach.

Five Guys is overhyped, I've heard people rave about how good a burger it is. It isn't. It isn't better than other chains. It isn't better than a crappy burger made by a terrible backyard chef. Five Guys was a flavorless burger and their fries sucked. Even faint praise would be overhyping that place.

Its good you have your OWN mind and can come to your own conclusions!!

The last time I ate there it didnt taste quite as good as I remember (Taste not as strong) but they are definetly the best of anyone else... (Which today doesnt say much as almost everything is crap now)
 
One thing I really hate about 5 guys is the fact that EVERY single fast food joint now overprices their hamburgers. They ALL went "5 guys" on us and said "fuck it, if they can do it, we can too".

I prefer Duchess/BigD over just about any other burger when and if I go fast food (which is extremely rarely).

We're discussing fast food chains, not restaurants. I'm sure there are dozens of restaurants around here that make a better burger than five guys.

Come on man. When talking Five Guys bashing you always round up to the nearest $10. Your meal cost $20 which is just ridiculously overpriced considering you split a meal. Next time just do yourself a favor and go to Ruth's Chris or something.

As an east coaster, I totally agree with this. A big part of what makes in-n-out great is the freshness of their produce. I believe they only use produce that's grown in a particular radius, which is why they'll never come to the east coast, unfortunately.

Seriously I just looked up the menu to order online a bacon cheeseburger with Cajun fries and a large drink was $14.
