Geez, she's showing concern. She shouldn't get out of her car, that would only make the cops job harder than it is. What do you want her to do? Act like nothing happened?

Don't worry, yesterday was my first ticket. 66 in a 55. $30 ticket, $110 court costs. :(

You might be able to wipe that from your record with traffic school... first ticket and only 11 over the limit. Is that possible?

4pts is a bit harsh...

The only thing I don't like regarding the idea of slowing down is what if another car's on your ass going 65-70 MPH and doesn't know about the law (like the OP?). If all of a sudden you brake down to 20-25, the car behind you might have to stomp on his/her brakes and ram you.

Thats the way the law was drafted. I agree, everybody needs to be more aware, in less of a hurry, and drive with courtesy and consideration. I wouldnt STOMP the brakes unless you had death wish, great insurance, and even better lawyer!
Yeah, like that will ever happen. ME FIRST,ME FIRST!

Edit: Up here, when cops pull someone over, they park with half their car hanging out into the right lane! wtf??

You always pull your car enough to the left go give yourself ample room to stand without the risk of getting smacked from behind unless your car gets hit first.

But doesn't that increase the odds of some motorist smacking the cop car? And cause traffic snarls? Is it acceptable even if, to position your squad car as you say, you must be hanging into the traffic lanes? I'm not trying to belittle an officer's safety... dont get me wrong, I see the point and all but... seems like a lot of potential trouble could be avoided if cops could just go over to the passenger side. Why don't they do that? I've been pulled over a few times long ago and they came to my pax window, but I dont see that anymore.

Yeah, I saw a cop doing that on the interstate here a little while ago. Seems like the best idea to me. Ticketing a bunch of people for not obeying a law most don't even know about (I guess? I'd never heard of it before now) seems like it'll probably have even less effect then ticketing does on stopping people from speeding.

I mean, thats what I'd do. A hell of a lot of good its going to do me when I get my ass run over on the freeway if I can give them a $400 ticket or something afterwards.

Plus...slowing down to 25mph on the interstate seems more likely to cause a car accident then it is to prevent one.

I don't think anyone can argue it would be better to smash up a car than injure or kill someone, whether or not there are "traffic snarls."

It's a lot easier to talk to someone on the driver's side, you can effectively blind them from your presence with the spotlight in the mirrors, and they have a more difficult angle to attack you from if you come up on the driver's side. Imagine you're sitting in your car waiting to ambush a cop with a handgun...would it be easier to turn left and shoot over your shoulder or shoot to your right with your arm extended?

Another BS reason for cops to meet quota and states to make money. They just passed this same law in Georiga, $650 ticket. Sounds like a cash cow to me. I am sorry but cops are cool with risking their lives in gunfire but whine when someone gets clipped while pulling someone over?! Sounds like a whining excuse to me..... just my .02

About 2 years ago I was on the interstate and got pulled over, I made sure I pulled WAY off to the shoulder (ie. 25 feet from me and the nearest travel lane) and the cop stil came up to my passenger side window.. he couldnt see in any of my windows anyhow.. but I had wound down the drivers side so he could see my hands on the wheel.. and not to my side.. but he still came to the other side..

Must just be me then. But she just seemed really annoying. Why say anything? He's on the radio trying to get himself help and she's asking him dumb questions.

I bet the driver of the white caddy that hit him did get tracked down, car was on tape and tag probably legible, as well as rt front damage front contact with the door.

The law is a good idfea, as there have been far too many LEO's, highway workers, paramedics and good sams struck renedering aid. But a poorly written law is not the best way. I say we need soeme real DRIVER TRAINING, and a test that determined ability LIKE YOUR LIFE (and others) depended on your skill.
There are cetain people who should NEVER drive.

When you get hit by a car I will just stand there and stare at you with a  look on my face. That would be best right?

We have that same law in Michigan. If it is possible to merge to the left then you are to do so. If you can't you need to slow down. I have no problems with it. If I remember correctly it applies to any emergency vehicle.
