I can almost say 100% that this is going to be one requirement of the games for windows program.

Yes, it is a requirement. Unless its a complicated RTS game or just one that doesn't really work with a controller.

I HATE the controls on default, changed them around. Also the default controls don't match the "help" screens in game, like to pick up a weapon on default it says to press "B" but its actually "E". lol

At least they let you change the controls, I hope it never makes it so consoles will decide how one plays a game.

looks good and it uses the 360 control scheme by default. But I would prefer it on my 360 as it runs better, but on the PC it does look clearer.

Wow that motion blur effect looks like crap, I see lots of people disabling that. How can they call that a "feature".

I thought it made the game look more cinematic... I really liked it.

The B key was referring to the 360 controller...

Why do you hate this game so much, have some kind of bias? ;)

please tell me the controls can be customized like virtually any other PC game

Monolith called "soft shadows" in FEAR a "feature"

-- they just DIDN'T say it is a "crappy feature" ;)
it *kills* performance and looks like you-know-what

... someday it will probably be implemented pretty well ... soon, i think

Like I said... stuck in DX7 mode.

Get ready to disable it for every game in the future.

HOLD ON

imagine it at 100 fps ... with everything completely maxed
:Q

just like with soft shadows ... devs are also thinking way ahead ...
eventually SS will look much more natural and the computers will be plenty fast to display it perfectly

Did anyone else get the retarded bug where your settings go haywire when you mouse over? I couldn't even get the game playable, and when I started the level, none of my keys did anything. Does this need Vista?

Nope. It might be that you're using an ATI set-up, which aren't exactly doing well wit this game. Try downloading the newest drivers.

If its your 2900XT, it's a common problem that's yet to be fixed...

Does anyone know if this demo is the same as the old XBOX 360 Lost Planet single player demo? A useless stage with like 10 bugs and nothing else and then a stage in a military compound with huge mechas and stuff. I set the download up this morning but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Although if I really want to play Lost Planet, I'll walk 20 feet to my living room, grab the game off my shelf, stick it in my XBOX 360 and play the full version now on a 46" HDTV with 5.1 DD surround sound :p.

Ignoring the fact that the game has about 5 resolutions available, and they're all pretty low, I liked the game (DX10 version). I played with default settings on 1280 X 800 with a 8800GTS 320 and a E6600 at stock speeds and it had to have been above 45FPS, but I couldn't get FRAPS to work in-game. I have yet to see how my 320MB of video memory does on 1680 X 1050, it probably won't be pretty, but if it isn't I'll just switch to my 23" LCD which does 1280 X 768 native anyway.

I thought the effects and explosions were very cool. On the level with snow and the big warehouse building, there are 3 big pillbug-looking things that roll through the snow at you, the snow flying through the air looked sweet. I had fun getting them to roll through the explosives barrels at me.

Ive got 27 different resolutions to pick from. What monitor do you have? Ive got a 24" LCD, and have from 640x360, all the way up to 1920x1200, with 25 different ones between.

To see how much vram it takes up, try this little proggie; http://www.nonatainment.de/web/Default.aspx?tabid=62

Screen shot of it in action for Lost Planet (not mine), pretty nice.

I tried it once, using 1920x1200, 2X AA 16X AF everything else maxed vsync off, DX9 version in Win XP SP2 w/ 158.22 drivers. I think the average FPS was about 35 in the demo outside (C2D @ 3.2GHz, 8800GTS 640 @ 610/1900).

Once I started playing the actual game I got a hard lock. I mean really hard. I rebooted and the system would not power on until I cycled the PSU power switch.

When it did power on my BIOS settings were wiped and I had to reconfig everything. I might try the beta NV drivers or more likely just wait a week or two for official drivers to fix it. It is visually impressive but Oblivion with mods is superior.

The beta drivers I posted fix that issue.

Not sure if posted, I looked but didnt see it. FS did an article about it, with a LOT of benches. Everything you could want, except with the 2900XT and DX10 numbers. :(

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/los..._demo_directx_10_performance/page2.asp

The 2900XT did well, placed right between the 8800GTS and 8800GTX. The two fastest cards consistently where the 8800GTX&Ultra. The X1950XTX really spanked the 7900GTX though. For whatever reason, they couldnt get SLI to work with the 7900's no matter what they tried.

How?! I've got 640x480 - 1360x760 or whatever and I have a 19" LCD with a native res of 1440x900. It looks like nasty crap no matter what resolution it's at (even with scaling correction).

I also had a plethera of resolution choices (27 sounds about right).
I set mine to 1920x1080
DX9c of course.

Demo ran like crap on my system.
Low 20's no matter what settings I had.

There's no 1680x1050 option.
