I set mine to 1920x1080
DX9c of course.

Demo ran like crap on my system.
Low 20's no matter what settings I had.

There's no 1680x1050 option.
i don't see 1920x1080 either  i'd love to try it on my westy 37" but i can't get 1680x1050 for my 22" either. idk why some are seeing different resolution oopptions.

Something is wrong then.
-Are you making sure you scroll down on the settings page?
I HAVE the westy 37" and thats what I played the demo on.
All the resolutions were there for me to choose from.

Seems like its a 50/50 shot with people around here whether they see there supported resolutions with this demo.

Ive got 27 different resolutions to pick from. What monitor do you have? Ive got a 24" LCD, and have from 640x360, all the way up to 1920x1200, with 25 different ones between.

How?! I've got 640x480 - 1360x760 or whatever and I have a 19" LCD with a native res of 1440x900. It looks like nasty crap no matter what resolution it's at (even with scaling correction).

I dont know. They are just there. Im on a 2407FPW.

No, it does not. Probably just recommended. It works with a A64 just fine.

This is false. You can play DX10 games, with a DX9 card. Just without the DX10 effects.

Demo working fine for me. Vista Ultimate x32, and X1900XT here. Ill try my WinXp x64 tomorrow, see how it works, and the performance difference. Dual boot, so comparisons are easy.

that is wrong too. you can't play a dx10 game with a dx9 card UNLESS there is a dx9 path. fortuantly most games in the next year or so will have it.

ps. i heard alanwake does not. is this true.

ask ackmed ... he reads the AW forum gossip as holy gospel

the last official world is that Alan Wake is DX10/DC and Vista only ... no DX9

yeah it will "run" on a P4EE HT ... the barest of bare minimums - because of HT ...
... but not the FX-57 a faster proc, for example

Seems like multithreading is becoming more important than actual speed.

Care to tell me which DX10 games do not have a DX9 path?

And no, Allen Wake was running on a 7900GTX, and on the official forums from a moderator, there is a FAQ telling this.

apoopin for some reason doesnt want to believe the official forums, from the official site. Instread relies on other info. Perhaps Inq? Dunno, he never gave any link or course where he got his info.

He just said they aren't out yet. There are no true DX10-only games out yet. Alan Wake might be the first. Are you purposely being difficult or is this honest miscommunication still ongoing for you?

I was getting this error:
This application has failed to start because XINPUT1_3.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Then I installed the dx9 update from here.

And now it works ok, I guess....

Everything as high as it would go at 1280x960 and I got these results.
Snow = 11fps
Cave = 15fps

Specs:
Vista Ultimate
X2 4400+ (Stock)
2GB PC3200 (400mhz)
BFG 8800GTS 640MB (Stock)
Audigy2 Plantium

I think I might be having a hangup because of the Audigy audio problem. I'll try lowering the sound quality and see if anything changes, and I'll try running at default settings.

For reference I noticed mylok got the following:
vista ultimate (d3d10 demo)
x2 4400 @ 2.6Ghz
3GB RAM
EVGA 8800GTS stock

all settings at default except res. @ 1600x1200
avg cave 35
avg snow 25

Edit:
At default settings I get 45 snow and 25 cave...

the following is NOT for ackmed ... since he already knows everything :p
it's for the rest of us

here is the forum:
http://www.alanwake.com/forum/showthread.php?t=543

here are the FAQs from here:

http://www.alanwake.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1055
What kind of specs will the PC need to run Alan Wake?

Nothing is certain about the specifications but you will need Windows Vista and a fairly high spec PC. Remedy have showcased Alan Wake running smoothly on an Intel Core 2 Quad system overclocked at 3.73Ghz with a GeForce 7900GTX.

Markus from Remedy has said ?Alan Wake would pretty much not run on any single core processors, although it may be possible to run on single-core Pentium 4 processors with Hyper Threading enabled, with noticably reduced image quality/experience.?

The game will use a separate processing thread dedicated to physical calculations. Since Remedy is using Havok, there is no support for Ageia PhysX cards, so all the physical calculations are done using the CPU. Markus has explained that a normal Core 2 Quad will use 80% of one core for physical calculations.

will there be a dx9 pathway? ... well ... maybe ... since there will be an xbox360 port
Is the 360 version going to be identical in graphics to the PC version?

The 360 only has 3 cores but according to mixuk from Remedy it shouldn't matter.

"Having several cores helps, but is not required, since you can run several processes on one thread. In the current plans the PC and 360 versions will be pretty identical.

Also, we stream necessary data to memory when needed, the whole world will not be loaded into memory constantly. It's the same idea that was already in GTA3 for PS2, remember, it only had 32mb."

Alan Wake is expected to run at at least 30 frames per second on the Xbox 360.
so who can be certain ? [besides ackmed]

Thanks for reading my post, and backing me up, and posting the link I already did, apoopin.

You've shown as I have already stated, that it is running on a DX9 card, and that it can run (not very well) on a P4 w/HT. Which debunks your statements that Allen Wake will be dual core and DX10 only. Something which you've yet to provide any links to.

Thanks for helping my case, while deflating yours.

And who said there are going to be DX10 only games? Where are these alleged games? This started when someone said you couldnt play a DX10 game (talking about Lost Planet), with a DX9 card. When in fact you can. And until there is a game that will be DX10 only, and not able to be played with a DX9 card such as a 7900GTX or X1950XTX, he will continue to be wrong. Do you honestly think devs will alienate 98% (figure outta my butt, probably close to accurate) of gamers any time soon? Didnt happen when DX7 launched, or DX8, or even DX9. And it isnt going to happen now. Feel free to quote me, save it, and bring it up to my face whenever it happens. Anyone with common sense can see it wont.

my pleasure to assist you

but of course, the links i posted were for "everyone else"

Since when does Alan Wake relate to Lost Planet: EXTREEEEEEME CONDITION!?

That's what I thought.

Oh and I tinkered with settings and got something like an average of 45. There was no 1680x1050 option though :(.

I'm seeing all the resolution options on my setup including 16:9 ones like 1920x1080 and 16:10 like 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 (which I use). Weird. My setup is:

DX9 Lost Planet demo on Steam
Win XP SP2 32bit
8800GTS 640MB with NV 158.22 drivers
Dell 2470WFP w/ DVI connection (1920x1200 desktop res)

What is with the Tab that is labeled Warning performance drop, you can toggle it on and off but it does not stick if you get back into the game and then go back in and check. It is under keyboard setting 02

Only had a quick mess about last night. Runs like cack on mine (specs in sig + XP). Can't remember the numbers, I'll post em when I redo it. Not playable though even at 1024x768.

Also noticed a delay between me pressing the keyboard and actual movement or moving the mouse and the view changing. VERY annoying, I didn't think my computer was taht ******.

Yeah, I had the same problem. It was really laggy with my controls running on a 7900GT, 2.4GHZ X2 and 2GB of RAM. IDK what the problem is, hopefully somebody knows.

looks good and it uses the 360 control scheme by default. But I would prefer it on my 360 as it runs better, but on the PC it does look clearer.

Want to chime in and say that if all Games for Windows use the 360 control scheme I will be sold on the idea.

Wow that motion blur effect looks like crap, I see lots of people disabling that. How can they call that a "feature".

Monolith called "soft shadows" in FEAR a "feature"

-- they just DIDN'T say it is a "crappy feature" ;)
it *kills* performance and looks like you-know-what

... someday it will probably be implemented pretty well ... soon, i think

It has been implemented properly, but only in DX9 techdemos like Ruby's Double Cross and Crowd demo, but don't know why it hasn't been implemented in games like it was on DX9 techdemos.

How you all doing people first post so be kind lol.

Basically trying to play this game and i fixed the first problem (XINPUT1_3.dll) by updating the diret x 9.0 (thank to this site for the link). But now im getting a fatal error message sayin unsupported pixel shader 2.0, now my graphics card is a XFX Geforce fx 5900 xt and i thought that this gpu accepted pixel shader up to 2.0+.

Any help please, thanks
