Excuse me for being nosy, but what g card are you running in your rig 3D?
I don't really enjoy gaming itself that much/burn him at the stake4870 softmodded to a V8700. (amateur game modeler I don't really enjoy gaming itself that much. Fun to mod them though.) I want to upgrade to DX11 and the latest OGL/OCL capable cards, but need a card that can be softmodded, as I'm broke-as and can't afford a real pro card. Or, even a top of the line Gaming card, which wouldn't work as well, anyway.
seems that way. if you think about the gtx680 is actually pretty slow considering it has TWICE the shading power of the gtx580.

As they are right now, without changes, I'd still take a 7970 over a 670 at ~$50 more and over the 680 for ~$50 less. (There's this app called Luxrender that would make all the difference for me.) The card is a more versatile, better rounded product.
Don't forget the significantly improved tessellation, and texture fillrate:
GTX580 Texture Fill Rate: 49408 MTexels/sec
GTX680 Texture Fill Rate: 128768 MTexels/sec
FP16 texture throughput is twice as fast on the 680. Yet 680 is just 30-35% faster.
The 680 only has 87% of 580's pixel fillrate. (32 vs. 48 ROPs in the 580).
That's why I am not sure why rumuors had GK110 just 25-30% faster. If GTX780 has more ROPs and 384/512-bit memory bus, 50% is not out of the question since both the pixel fill rate and memory bandwidth would be lifted way above 580's levels.
Alright prices back to where they should be instead of AMD ass raping thier customers.
7970 $350
7950 $279
7870 $219
7850 $179
Sound familiar like 6xxx series?
Competition is good.
yea i dont see how this hurts amd much, if anything there's no point getting a gtx680 as this is right there also
Didn't stop gamers from buying the GTX 580, when there was intense price/performance choice with the GTX 570, HD 6970 and HD 6950.
The difference here is dynamic turbo. On previous gen 2nd tier, you actually HAD to manually OC if you want to reach top tier performance. Here, the card does it for you as long as its running cool.
Common users will just see "stock" out of box benchmarks with gtx670 matching gtx680 performance.
True but the flag-ship also has dynamic turbo, too.
If two of these cards can beat a 1200$ 690 the 690 purchasers won't be terribly happy![]()
Don't worry the 670 will be gold platedWhy not, they paid for chromium plated "fancy" coolers.
So does anyone know exactly when the NDA expires?
ie. Both dynamic OC: gtx670 turbo 1.3ghz, gtx680 turbo 1.15ghz. That's the point. Custom pcb 670 with good coolers > reference 680s, out of the box, no need for user input like previous gen.
if this early leak holds, custom 670 will obsolete the current high-end.
Why doesn't amd just start giving away free money as well? Having cards unlock is the dumbest idea ever
