Very nice review. They tested at HQ driver settings. turned on all the eye-candy (AAA, Super Sampling, etc.), and tested at high res. I wish more sites would test this way.

This review just exposes the immaturity of quad SLI. I'm sure the performance will exceed crossfire once nvidia works out the quirks but the problem is how long are people supposed to wait? There is no clear time table promised by nVidia as far as I know so that makes buying quad SLI a risky prospect.

They didn't even post the Quad SLI results for most of the tests. I would just have liked to see were it stands. I know the X1950XTX CF setup is very fast. Probably faster then Quad SLI. Still would have been nice to see the numbers.

They said that QuadSLI usually does worse than 7900gtx SLI when you enable 4xAA at high resolutions, that's why they dont show much QuadSLI benches.

Before we get started, we should note one quick item: 4xAA testing. We?re going to exclude Quad SLI from most of these tests, as we?ve already shown you that the GeForce 7950 GX2 Quad SLI cards aren?t even capable of outperforming a GeForce 7900 GTX SLI config in most situations with 4xAA/16xAF, so we?re going to give ATI the edge here by default (with the exception of F.E.A.R. and Quake 4, two of the only applications that we test with which scale well under 4xAA for Quad SLI).
way to read the review, guys

Finally! Someone shows SLI-AA benches! I use it all the time for games like Far Cry, HL2 (all steam games), BF2, Doom 3. Who the hell wants 300 fps with a 60hz refresh rate?!! O_O

I hate all the beches that declare a winner with some rediculous bench. Well, as you can see, Card A gets 500 fps average. a whopping 100 fps difference from card B! Card A is teh weiner!

Exactly my thoughts. People who spend $800+ on GPU's, are more than likely going to use all the IQ they can. Nice to see them using these setttings. And its very nice to see SLI AA/Super AA benches again. Clearly shows ATi does a great job there.

And yet they show Oblivion with HDR+AA very playable. Despite his claims otherwise. Funny, I and others have been saying its playable for some time.

12 FPS is playable?

Yeah i can play @ 12.5 frame per sec :)

Also to play Oblivion 1600x1200 you really need SLI or crossfire :(

The game is codded really badily as in inefficently , Just play Just Cause demo on XBOX 360 and that game runs really smooth and looks much better than Oblivion. The game runs over 30frame per sec and its really awesome :)

I tried on PC demo and the game runs smooth but doesn't look as good because programmer find it damn hard to make a game and run it just the way you want on low to mid to high end PC.

NO WAY just cause looks like far cry...

Not really but they have everything pretty much maxed. turning down some settings to like 75% will give you about 25 which IS playable. Enough to say that I have oblivion tweaked like crazy and have an ass load of mods (4096x4096 LOD, Oscuro 1.3, etc) and I get no less than 40 fps. Using 4xAA+HDR, 16xHQAF HQ Mipmaps.

100% Trees
75% Actors
50% items
75% Objects
100% Grass (only the low poly mod -- still dense "80")
50% shadows in doors
50% shadows outdoors
Self shadow off
shadow filtering low
etc, etc

These give me great performance using WarCats 6.6 chuck

Those are good drivers aren't they gerrson? ;)

Something is off with their benches though it seems. I got a heck of a lot better than 12 frames when I had mine on 1680x1050|4xAA+HDR|16xHQAF|max game settings minus self shadows. My X1900XTX was overclocked to 740/850 though, but I doubt that that made such a difference of 10 frames. Maybe it was some config files I tweaked or something.

I have Crossfired X1900's. He told me time and time again, I wasnt getting playable frames. Obviously, I was. Especially since my cards were overclocked, which I mentioned.

Also, nice of you to pick the lowest fps graph. ;) Something he would do.

He did that to prove that not every instance reflects that HDR+AA is playable. Although, I'd have to disagree with that result. I'll link some video clips of me playing in foliage later with a single XTX and shooting deer at my above said settings. It certainly higher than 12.

lol he got you, though

zing!

im sure that ackmed has never done the same thing :Q

edit: anyway the other test was from inside. most cards can get playable FPS inside, outside is where oblivion really stresses the GPU the most

That's with AAA enabled, which stresses the card a lot more in outdoor scenes than without it. The fps would be at least in the 20's without AAA.

Ah, that's why. That would probably get one around 12 fps. It's a good thing there isn't many chain-link fences in Oblivion.
