i <3 opera

super fast, and it's really obvious on really old computers like mine. i use IE whenever opera hits a page it can't render, which does happen every once in a while

Hmmm, FF3 is nice too. Anyone know how to fix crappy scrolling whenever there's flash content on a page? Opera doesn't seem to have this problem, FF2 and 3 do, at least for me.

I only installed FF a couple of days ago to download some flash videos that my IE/Avant software could not retrieve on an artist's site. That will be its only use as I don't like it. Will definitely stick to Avant otherwise.

Glad I'm not the only one who has Firefox spontaneously consume 100% of my CPU time. I'm really starting to hate it.

I've got a 1.73 GHz Dothan and 2 GB of RAM; browsing the internet shouldn't make me feel like I'm using a Pentium 200 MMX. Flash shouldn't randomly stop playing sound and failing to play more than 2 seconds of video because Firefox has been open for more than five minutes.

IE is swiss cheese into my Windows kernel; I'm not about to start using it and open my computer up to being compromised. Safari sucks, let it stay on Mac (I downloaded it the day it came out, too many incompatibilities and uglyness with its weird font smoothing). I guess I'm going to try Opera....

OVER 9000?!

Bahahaha, well-played good Sir!

I can't even find a link between all the times it's happened. I used to think it was because of Flash, I've had FF spike to 100% trying to load GMail. No Flash there. Sometimes the only way out is to kill the process.

Must be your comp is made of fail. FF2 gave me no issues, however I've switched to FF3 beta and it's even better. Use Adblock Plus and NoScript ;)

Yeah... Firefox is getting on my nerves as well. Each point revision seems to have more and more unexplained crashes and lock-ups... It's getting almost as bad as IE!

I had no problems with ffv2 on w2k but with vista it crashed a few too many times for my tastes. Back on ie7 now - miss the spell checker a lot.

Will try ffv3 after it's been out for while...

I noticed at work where I can't block the ads on this site, that the ad on top from crucial, I think that has a green circle arrows spinning, causes my cpu to max out.

The default GMail layout is actually fairly processor intensive. It slows down, but doesn't halt things on my 630MHz EEE PC, probably because I've slimmed down Windows with nLite and don't have many background tasks and services running. On my 1.9GHz dual-core desktop, it can peg one of the cores to 100% (although typical load seems to be 20-30% for both cores, though, so 40-60% of a single core).

To me it sounds more like an old computer issue. At the bottom of the page, you can select basic HTML layout for GMail instead of the fancier default layout, I'd suggest trying that out and seeing how it effects speed. Also, I'd recommend downloading Flashblock to get rid of useless flash content. By default it will block all flash content, but will leave a placeholder where the flash content would be, and by clicking on the placeholder, you can allow the flash to be displayed. It also lets you whitelist sites you don't want it to block (for example if you visit YouTube a lot, or flash gaming sites, you'd probably want to whitelist those). It's a fantastic little plugin, I use it on my EEE and it works great.

Gotta love all the people who took 9000 literally. It's an exaggeration used to point out that Firefox is a leaky monster of an app.

Dothan 1.73 GHz = old, but I sure hope you're not suggested it's too slow for the INTERNETS. Come on now. I'm not complaining about Crysis...
