Great, another major version change. Who knows how many of my extensions won't want to work with Firefox 6 ? ? We still have some, like Google Toolbar, which Firefox claims is incompatible with FF5 and as yet, no indication from Google that they are fixing it. I have Add On compatabilty reporter installed and for what I use Google Toolbar for, the functions work. Of course, there could be a feature or two I do not use which may not work.

Typical asshole response from Google. I like it and need it so they better allow it to still be downloaded or installed. Among other things, I have some custom buttons for package tracking which I like to keep. Anyone know if the .xpi installer for Firefox can somehow be saved ? ? ? You can not do this from within Firefox as it only installs the App for you (yet another wonderful assine idea)

I think a found Version 7.1.20110512W for download thru Cnet .. I saved it and modified the install.rdf to max version 9.0

I use Febe to back everything up.

Why on earth would you want a Google Toolbar when FF has a small mini search bar with a default of Google as the search engine?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thanks for the info about FEBE .. never knew about it till now. Sounds like a must have add on for Firefox. As to Google Toolbar, I like it and it has some features I want and my custom package tracking links as buttons. Yes, they are not really needed, but I like it my way.

I love when people complain about version numbers. No one ever complained about Google Chrome when it went from 4.0 to 8.0 in one calendar year. :)

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#Release_history

Because chrome never really was big on version numbers to start. Firefox was and alot of the addons are targeted to version numbers which will not work now because of the fast release schedule.

Can you you try to explain the change with addons? I'm genuinely curious since addon compatibility is a huge reason i don't upgrade right away. I'm going to take a look at google as well.

edit: I've found some articles about the addon compatibility checker, but that's about it...

lol didn't 5 just come out?

Are they trying to catch up to IE's version or something? The version number means nothing, FF 1 is still better than IE 9 (or whatever is the latest these days)

Already? Are they trying to equal IE/Chrome's revision numbers so idiots don't think they're far behind?

You guys can have FF6. I'm going to wait until Thursday for Firefox 23.

It's been somewhat unstable for me. I've used it for roughly five hours and it already crashed once when I had 8 tabs open and was browsing TPU. Memory usage is definitely down, though, especially after continuous use without quitting.

What BS. IE 9 is EASILY superior to Firefox 1.
