i was starting to think that the problem with firefox was because i am using windows xp but that doesn't explain that the same PC with Google Chrome has NEVER crashed. i have run lots of anti spyware and my anti virus has detected nothing. my memory is brand new in this computer and the drive is as well.

Mine updated again to 42.03 Beta, no issues so far on 64 bit version.

I find it ironic that the beta 64 bit version is more stable then the official 32 bit build.

the mystery of my firefox crashing has now been solved. installed new memory and so far touch wood firefox has not crashed 🙂

I normally find the two main issues with Firefox 32 bit version are Flash plug-in crashes, second is when hardware acceleration is enabled.

Reliability History in Action Centre is a great way of checking FF browser crash issues.

How can you tell if you're running the 64 bit version? When I upgraded for some reason it installed into the Program Files (x86) folder.

Check in "Programs and Features" uninstall , if Mozilla Firefox x64 version is listed there then you can delete the old FF x86 folder manually. It does(Firefox 64 bit)put it in Programs Files and not Programs Files (x86) folder, you just need to scroll down past all your folders to see it's not in any named folder.

I deleted my old one ie 32 bit Firefox from x86 folder.


Btw mine updated again to beta 7 version of 42.0.

I thought it was kind of interesting that when you upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit, it stays in the x86 Program Files folder, but when you do a fresh install it goes into the Program Files folder for 64 bit programs. The only way I could tell it was 64bit was to go into the Uninstall Program list.

Seems to me that the ideal way to upgrade is to uninstall the 32 bit version and install the 64 bit version, and it should keep settings/addons.

When I downloaded 64 bit FF, it actually upgraded from the 32 bit version ie transferred my add-ons/extensions, themes etc to 64 bit version.

Btw new Firefox 64 bit beta 42.0b8 out , updating mine now.
 
Since when did FF start to block downloads?
I haven't seen that behavior before, and how are they determining that the file may be a virus or spyware?

I think that is BS, I know the file isn't either, and FF shouldn't be telling me what I can or can't download.

*edit, seems you can "unblock" said file by right clicking on it, and select Unblock.

They don't even tell you they blocked it, until you go looking where the file is.
So, instead of asking the user what they want to do, they silently block it, leaving the user scratching their head wondering where the file is, since it wasn't in the designated download location.
