Firefox 41 Released

Anyone using ABP? Apparently an unlisted improvement in FF41 dramatically improved memory usage.

uBlock Origin supposedly wasn't affected by the update, but I'm noticing 100MB less per session ever since the update.

Yes. Made no difference. Hard locks and have to use task manager to get rid of it.

Was so bad in XP that I had to install over it just to get it to open (kept crashing after install and wouldn't start.....even a safe mode reset didn't fix it).

Not an option with Windows 7 64 bit and nVidia drivers.

Tried "Firefox reset", doesn't do anything. Will try to roll back to 41.0 or do a system restore or something. Firefox chokes on nearly every single web page, the same pages run fine on Chrome and IE.


Weekend Update: Rolling back to 40.0 seems to have taken care of the problems.

Update on my Firefox 42b1 (64 bit version), still no crashes so looking great, all my extensions etc working fine.

Think I'll stick with the 64 bit version from now on.

The latest update definitely is the cause of Firefox crashing. Firefox 40.0 works fine but Cyberfox, which is basically Firefox, with the 41.01 update, crashes on every other web page.

Yes you can but if you run JAVA you have install both 32-Bit and 64-Bit JAVA. Say 32-Bit JAVA for FF and 64-Bit JAVA for IE

In the time being, I'm content to run Firefox 28.0 32-Bit with Flash v17.0.0.169 as it all works great Suggest you don't update either until all this Mozillia crap irons out.

45 has been working fine for me. I run ie, ff and chrome together on a regular basis and use each differently. Why this morning I even used edge and scribbled notes to myself at amazon lol.

When I downloaded Firefox 64 bit version it actually removed the 32 bit Firefox from the Program/Features uninstall menu, however it kept the 32 bit Firefox folder in Program Files x86 folder(I deleted that manually later).
I only have "Firefox 64 bit" and "Mozilla Maintenance Service" now showing in Programs and Features for uninstall at my leisure.

Btw just installed version 42 beta 2 version a few minutes ago, still no issues on 64 bit Firefox.
As to Java,you don't really need it at all, unless there is "a must have" Java application you need, there are both 32 bit and 64 bit Java versions available for Firefox(depending which one you have).

This is an interesting thread. I have used FF on four different machines and only one has any lockups, but I don't think that is necessarily a FF problem. I am curious what is causing so many issues with others.

Mine FF will freeze on the one if I leave tabs open (with VPN access, if that matters) when switching from an external display to my laptop display (switching, in this case, it just unhooking the VGA cable). Doing this also sometimes freezes one of my virtual machines, hence I don't know that it is just a FF issue. I *think* the Firefox freezing is solely due to Flash, although I cannot guarantee Flash was running each time it froze. But if I had Flash running at one time during the session, I could see how remnants could still cause an issue.

I like to have the 32 and 64 bit browsers to check web pages to make sure they work.

I'm going to hold off on the Firefox updates for a few.

Same here on WIN X 10547.

I actually I think I did have one crash on a NoScript update, have had that happen before but that is an update.

Just do task manager, stop firefox, restart, and it's all restored.

If you like Chrome more power to you I guess.

I do not.

When I read that there are improvements with FF 41.0 with respect to ABP, I broke my rule about waiting for x.2. I am running 41.0 with EME free 1.0. Everything is working fine. No crashes. Seems fast. FF is using 228K of memory. No problems mon.

Did you delete your old Firefox profile?..I always use System Ninja for that.

My Firefox 64 bit 42.02 Beta is still rock solid, not a single crash, obviously on Win10 here .
