Thanks. I'll see if I run into that problem with my 5870 when I get it all put together. It has a lifetime warranty through XFX, so I'm not too worried.

Gah... ATI brands tho have one the worst RMA policys tho.

I dont know if it will apply to xfx because they were originally an nvidia company.

But you'll find out when you need to RMA.

It works fine with XFX.. I've RMA'd with them before and I find them to be even better than EVGA when it comes to that stuff. The process for ATI is the same as their Nvidia products.

really?

if i do go ATI again.. (although it will be a blue moon), i'll have to give xfx a shot.

But eVGA has been really really really really really really good to me.
:D

I wanted to try BFG out because one of our mods is a BFG employee.
I could always RMA a box of rocks and pretend it was a 295GTX. (grin)
(^ is total sarcasm.. i would never do something this unethical, but if u read that rant thread from Zap you know what im joking about.)

Update. I got my EVGA x58 SLI Micro-ATX board today. I also got my new slim Magicool 2x120mm radiator. It fits perfect. I'll have pictures of it installed when I get a chance to make some mounting brackets for it next week.

I used AS5 for the CPU. =)

IMG_1745_sm.jpg

Nice thin layer hand spread for optimum/even heat transfer. (put a zip-lock bag over your finger and spread it around until it's all even)

Then I used Ceramique for the voltage regulators and northbridge/southbridge.

Ill tell you its sweet when you send me back my WHS! Trying to thieve up my harddrives.

Props to you dude, Ill call you tomorrow, but you should anodize the expansion slot covers to match your PCI slot color.
eg: (top to bottom)

Red
Black
Red
Black

Unless of course you've gone behind my back and ordered a second 5870.

Since when do you spread AS5 with your finger? A LINE.

The spread trick was back in the day of AS3.

pshh.. I always spread it with my finger. It works best for temperatures. Whenever I use the line or pea method, it takes week(s) to settle properly and temperatures are always on the high side.

But I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the PCI lot covers. I kind of like the contrasting mirror silver, but I could do red or black. I'm leaning towards black.

Your WHS is still transferring.. about 5TB to go.. lol.

Maybe you want the contrast but I think the motherboard IO plate in red with white or black (maybe) lettering/graphics would look cool.

Great looking so far though.

Black like a nascar...... on them all for contrast since you have red thumb screwz.

Or screw it and just get another 5870.

Any chance you might know where you got your Sulfuric acid and Sodium hydroxide from? And how much you use? I really want to start Anodize at home...

Also absolutely love the build great idea to change out the LCD filter

I cannot give away any secrets. ;) Just as a hint, you can order everything from industrial supply stores.
