Finally test drove the Scion tC this morning.

NFS4 is not a true enthusiast

...b/c that's the only one they had in stock???😕

Yeah, but you plan on purchasing the auto anyway.

and I told them that I wanted Black Cherry Pearl and 4AT

And that matters to you why??? It's not your damn money 😀

Oh it doesn't at all.
Just from all your car threads, I thought you would've gone for the 5 speed.

In every auto vs manual thread, I've said auto for me😛

The only time I'd go with a manual is if it was a performance car.

LOL 😛

Hey, it was my first time in the car. The Scion "salesman" should have told have figured it out before me when I inquired about it holding third.

In my car there is a light that OD is off and a button. Some cars they have a gear for D and a gear for OD (usually D in a circle) on the AT shifter. I personally think tC styling is very derivative, but not bad. The sun roof is a deal braker for me though. It eats up headroom, and unless you use it a lot, it's just a waste of money. Americans are pretty tall, plus an inch or so that a fat rear end adds, and your head is brushing on the roof. Happened to me until I lost 50 lbs, so now my butt is smaller and the head isn't touching the roof in the good ole Maxima. I have sunroof now, but not next time 🙂

The O/D button on my car is actually on the shifter. When I press it (which isn't very often) the "O/D Off" light comes on in the gauge cluster. I got no such warning lights on the tC. But I didn't study EVERY button in the car to see which one was the O/D button before I took off. Just isn't something I pay very close attention to 😉

As for the sun roof, I've been spoiled by the moonroof in my car so every car I have from now on has to have one 😛

I'm glad you enjoyed your test drive.

I notice the same instance when I was test driving in the freeway here in Los Angeles. The sales person said it was the od kicking in.

I placed my deposit the next day. I usually am not a first adopter of product (especially when it comes to computer parts) but the tC won me over.

I already drove and eval'd a Mazda3 S hatch, Honda Civic Si, Accord DX, Toyota Corolla XRS, and the Nissan Sentra SE-R. I tried so hard to locate a Civic HX but there were none to be had here. Demand skyrocketed after gas prices broke the roof here in CA.

For the price and what you get for that price based well...I should be taking delivery on my Flint Mica Auto (yes Auto 😛) by next week. and I'll be paying cash on this one.

If I was 10 years younger I would definitely go for a manual but I've been driving for 15 years through 7 cars and my first and my current car were/are autos. Though fun factor still goes to mannies, though.

(The tC) will be a work/commuter car to and from work roughly 80+ miles each day from L.A. to O.C.

I still have my 1984 Nissan 300ZX AE Limited that I drive on the weekends and that is definitely a manual. Here's a link for those curious as to what the 1984 Nissan 300ZX AE Limited is.

WATCH OUT!! The people whose money isn't being spent will come after you with pitchforks and proclaim you to be a manless b!tch 😀

I hear ya.

Just thought I'd chime in. Dulanic already did. Can't let you have all the fun 😛

I already bought accessories for it here.

Way too much mark-up to be tacked on by dealer and I didn't want it to affect the final price of the car. They're going to be so thrilled when I show them the cashier's check.

automatic scion tc???? Quite the powerhouse for an "ace auto reporter".... You know you can pick up those VW bugs for cheap too.... they come with flower holders

all those cars but the cobra ended without their reserves met, which isn't surprising because they are worth way more than $17k. and personally, i don't think any amount of power would make up for the build quality loss going from a toyota to a mustang.

Being the interior-dash stroker whore that you are, I'd imagine you would inspect the quality of all the buttons and see what they do..and if they meet your ergonomic standards. 😛

I totally agree about the sunroof/moonroof. I need those...can't enjoy a car without them. Our Camry doesn't have a sunroof and it pisses me off.

I did touch the buttons 🙂 I felt up the aluminum climate control knob and the radio controls and the cruise, power window switches, etc. I just didn't LOOK for every single button there 😛

But I did stroke the dash and the door panels along with feeling up the seat fabric.

AND ONE OTHER COOL FEATURE!!!

The carpet on the floor mats can be removed!!!!!!!!! The carpet on the mats is attached with snaps (or some kind of mechanism). But you can remove the carpet portion and are left with rubber, all-season floor mats below.

TOO COOL!! 😀

I've posted it 3 times... Im 6'3" and had no issues at all, I sit with the seat slightly back and I was more then fine with the headroom.

See, that's the "BBQGRASS" flava that people were looking for in the OP. If you can get that excited about its floor mats, you should definitely buy this car. 😉😛

that actually is pretty neat, and very practical. Especially for us who deal with winter. But I imagine those clips would wear out after a while and the carpets would "slide" around the mats.

Well, it wasn't a very easy thing to get off, so it was pretty secure. I don't think it's gonna slide around at all.

Just test drove one. At 65 the tachometer read just below 3000, around 2800-2900. This was in fifth gear though. Mine should be here be the end of the week. I agree on the wheels, they look much nicer up close.

It would be nice if the steering wheel tilted up more.

Did you notice how TINY the steering wheel is? It's just so small.

No, steering wheel seemed normal. I did not really pay attention to it much other than the fact that I wanted it to tilt higher.

What is ATOT telling me? That I should buy what THEY want? Screw that. If that's the case, I'd be driving a 5-speed Altima or a 330i 5-speed.

A manual is needed most when the car has a weaker 4 cylinder engine to make the most of its power.
And traffic can't be that bad in NC.

Yes, I've driven a manual. And NO it is NOT necessary. I don't speed, I don't show-boat, and I DON'T even have a problem with my 125HP I4 engine in my 4AT '95 Camry LE. I have no problem accelerating, merging or passing other cars. So I don't think that a 4AT Scion tC of less weight and more HP/torque is gonna have a problem.

I'm sorry, but I'm not a speed demon and accelerating like a banshee has never been my "thing." I just have a different outlook on driving. I just drive to get from point A to point B with little to no fuss.

The TC has no overdrive button. The AT model has one of those funky "euro" looking shifters with the zig-zag gate. Maybe instead of shifting it into D you had it in 3. From what I hear all you have to do is tap the stick to the left and it pops right into 3'rd gear from drive.

That could have been in. I probably had it in the left date. I do recall it saying [3D] on the console. But I DON'T recall there being an indent from D to 3

NFS, don't listen to what others are saying...they prefer manual, you prefer auto...so go with what suits you best...

Sure you may lose performance with it, but let's face it, nobody buys a $17K 4-cylinder to win any races anyway, so who cares? If you don't have the "need for speed" don't trouble yourself with a manual.

Enjoy the new tC! 😉
