Yeah, the computer just runs over me. No matter what I do, it declares war and then proceeds to build thousands of units per turn.

This is on noble.

When you start a game, try building a worker first. Depending on what's in your city radius determines what tech you research first. If you have lots of forests, go for bronze so your worker can chop trees. After you build the worker, build a settler and chop 2 trees, this should let you make a quick early land grab. If you don't have enough forests near your first city, research the tech needed for your worker to improve nearby basic resources like cows, pigs, sheep, corn, wheat, rice.

That is the WRONG way to play. Its all depending on your civ traits and also on your position. If your near alot of flood plains, or have lots of animals near you, then research agriculture/animal husbantry and have the worker as your first build. BUT if that isn't the case, then Worker first is NOT the way to go. I usually go with warrior worker warrior settler then maybe a wonder on noble.

I just noticed something terribly offensive in Civ4. On the list of leaders for each faction that you choose at the beginning of the game for Germany, you have Otto von Bismarck and Frederick the 1st. Where the hell is Hitler? They left out possibly the greatest German leader of all time simply because his inclusion might offend some people? I might understand if all characters and events are fictional but this is stuff you can get out of any history textbook. Not to take anything away from Bismarck, but helping to defeat Austria and implementing a few social reforms doesn't put him on the same level of accomplishment as Adolf Hitler. Mao and Tokugawa were also included, to throw the hypocrisy off the charts. This makes me sick.

I think that if any game encompasses WW2 (like the Desert War Scenario in this one) should have historically correct figures. I personally will never play as Germany (being British and all) but I do not want to play the game as a woman. England has Victoria & Elizabeth, why not Churchill, Henry VIII, Richard III or any of the other male leaders of this country. They definitely need to patch the game to include a wider selection of leaders as I personally see it more appealing with a larger pool of leaders to choose from.

Other than that it's a great game, not quite up to the good old Civ 2 in my view but it's getting close to it again.

The lack of more leaders was a bit disappointing.

Without meaning to cause offence to anyone but Id have preferred a few of the smaller races to be removed and more leaders included.

No male leaders for England? Strange decision considering the great and sometimes not so nice male leaders we've had.

Hitler Vs. no Hitler.... he'd have been top of my 'Most well known' German Leaders (alongside General Rommel). History was one of my most hated subjects. Id not be offended if he was added even if his methods were rather brutal for his time in power.

Im finding that its quite easy to defend and compared to Civ2 or Alpha Centauri, its extremely difficult to take down an opponent quickly. Once they get Longbowmen, damn its hard to get past even 1.

I like the new touches like unit veterancy, the game looks good even if the animations are a bit screwy. Massively overcomplex Workers jobs just like Alpha Centauri... way too many improvements to remember but overall, Id have to say Civ2 was more enjoyable.

Overcoming the problems it has with ATI Graphics cards was annoying but every game has its problems with something.

Not a waste of money but it feels lacking.

What has Mali done for the greatness of all mankind? They should bring in the Zulu's again, they are well known around the world. If you look at Macemen you'll see that they don't carry a Mace, but a Flail.

I've just stuck 2GB in my PC and it still slows to a crawl on Huge maps about 1800ad. The Memory Leak issue is a big problem and a cause of many complaints on the civfanatics forums. A lot of people want more units like an AEGIS Cruiser, Nuclear Subs, Cruise Missiles, Zeppelins (yep, even Zeps) & even Special Forces (SAS, Seals, Spetznaz etc) along with Paratroopers.

Spies were around long before Gunpowder or Communism, the Chinesew usesd them to gather intelligence and sow the seeeds of discontent amongst the troops. Assassinations should be included aswell, but with a high rate of failiure & dire consequences.

All in all it is a good foundation for a game, it's just not complete. Can be great fun multiplayer, especially after a few beers.
