I play for ffxii for a couple of hours, it is ok but not as great as peopel say it is. I personally enjoy Xenosaga's serie story a whole lot more.

Xenogears > Xenosaga. Seriously, Xenogears is probably the greatest RPG ever made in every aspect and category (Story, music, battle, length, depth, characters, presentation, side quests, plot twists, etc).

I felt that Xenogears was great, but it was too slow! I mean that both literally and in the story-telling sense, because the characters talked at a crawling pace and there was no way to speed up the dialog so I found myself furiously tapping circle all the time.

The story also progressed really slowly and real advances in plot had large gaps between. Often you had to run around looking for one place or person for hours just to advance the story, except you couldn't find them because you missed that old man standing at the corner of a house somewhere. I think that about eighty hours in, I gave up and stopped. I really shouldn't have sold that game, though. I'm going to bet that it will be a collectors item eventually, like Chrono Trigger.

Understandable. Too Slow? Not for me. The game had GREAT translation and a great story so I wanted to read the text slowly and absorb it. The story progressed slowly because it was a long and somewhat complicated story. I never had a problem running around looking for some guy...the game was always clear on where to go next (like FF7). I beat the game in 65 hours...and the FASTEST I ever beat it in (after knowing everything to do) was maybe 52 hours. I doubt it will be a collectors item because they re-released it as a greatest hit.

During the cinematic scenes the voice seem to echo like mad (like EAX effect) and sometimes hard to hear it. Is it just me?

I play it on my computer using AIW + DScaler fyi...

Which way does the camera work?

If you were looking straight down at your character, would pressing left make the camera move clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Pressing the analog stick to the right makes the camera go to the right. The camera goes counter-clockwise.
Pressing the analog stick to the left makes the camera go to the left. The camera goes clockwise.

Pressing up on the analog stick goes to an overhead view.
Pressing down on the analog stick zooms in and gives a horizontal view.

I'm not sure you answered the question asked. Mugs was asking specifically about the camera, which you partially answered with your second set of comments.

Pushing left on the camera stick makers the view turn to the right and vice versa. In other words, the Left-Right (X axis) view is inverted. Then, as BigJ decribed, the Y axis (Up-Down) is also inverted. Push up on the stick makes you look down at the ground and pulling down makes you look up.

I am about 27 hours in. This is definitely one of the greatest FFs, and one of the greatest RPGs around. If you are a gamer who likes RPGs, especially if you are an RPG fanatic, you MUST play this game. Its truely going to become another FF milestone in RPG history.

You have to think of the camera as a 3rd person camera. Imagine a camera floating behind you, at a set distance. If you were to move that camera to the left, it would then be pointing towards and capturing events happening to your right. It takes a little bit of getting used to but once you realize that it is a 3rd person camera and not 1st person, your brain has an easier time figuring it out.

Okay, wow, this game is horrible with the money balance...my characters are leveled up very decently and are higher than the recommended level for where I'm at, but I need to buy new equipment that costs over 30,000 GIL which is going to equal about 2 hours of just mindlessly killing enemies...I don't even feel like playing now :(

Two things are really getting to me. One of them is the money issue, but that's been discussed. You can't really purchase gear appropriately for your level unless you farm for ages. The second... it's pronounced MARKEE, not MARKWISS. Dammit. Every time one of those dumbass characters says "markwiss" instead of "markee" which is the proper pronounciation for the word "marquis" I want to freaking strangle them.

Oh, and I got some sort of Mist thing on the license board but I have no idea what I'm doing when I use it. WTF does pressing L2 do? Sometimes it does eleventy billion damage, but other times it does, like, six damage.

Main Entry: Mar·quis
Pronunciation: 'mär-kw&s
Function: biographical name

Quickenings are good stuff, once you get more for your characters you can chain them together and create combos for insane damage. You can beat a lot of bosses and rare mobs in one hit with them. when you press l2 is shuffles around the options you have, when you have more then one character who can do a quickening, it will show up on the right side just about the time bar, then you can press the button corresponding to that character and combo the quickenings. You can also mist charge which refills the characters mp and lets you combo even more quickenings and do even more damage. I havent explained it too well but unlock more quickenings for your characters asap and youll see what I mean.

Honestly the money/equipment arguement is not really an issue at all. If you cant handle leveling up your characters for a bit or farming for some items then I don't see why you would even want to play any RPG. Building up your characters and items is part of the fun. Plus with FFXII and the gambit system that arguement is more of a joke. You can farm one handed while sleeping.

IMO, it's a little off-balance though. I've farmed for money so much that I have got almost every augmentation, skill, and more then the current licenses for magicks and equipment to be able to equip items I will be getting way later in the game...but I still don't have enough money to buy the current stuff.

Oh, and another thing that pisses me off...is that at some point in the game I will go to a shop with new gear, so I'll farm enough GIL to update everyone, and then I'll go through some easy passage/area to advance the game, only to get to an area with EVEN BETTER stuff.

hrmm strange, i havent had that problem. my main guys are about lvl 30 atm and i dont have all the augmentations and stuff. as for magic and armor/weapons i only buy those licenses when the items appear in a shop and when I want to upgrade my guys to shiney new stuff.usually I go farming more for lp then gil.

No I don't use them because I don't like them. I use Vaan, Ashe, and Baasch. Fran is wierd looking and I can't stand those ears, and Balthier hardly EVER got a gun upgrade from the merchants...he was always like way way way behind in attack power.

At the very least, the QUICKENING SHOULD WORK ON FLYING CREATURES...but they don't for some wierd reason.

Actually, you're right about him...I was able to use quickenings, but I've tried them on some other flying creatures (Wyvern Lord for example) and it doesn't do anything...

O please, people are prasiing this game to be the best rpg ever, what is sad joke this is. I guess too many people are obsessed draw to the name Sqauresoft. There are no character development as one should expect from a rpg. As Abel would say, Poor soul"

Quickening works regardless of flying, resistance, defense, immunity, etc.

The only thing I don't believe it works on is when later on in the game you have monsters that put up barries where they're immune to physical/immune to magic.

I've played this game for about an hour so far and I couldn't figure out how to use the damn healing potions in my inventory? I'd be really really pissed if I have to buy a license to use the healing pots. That's just ridiculous.
