"The charges allege widespread corruption in FIFA over the past two decades, involving bids for World Cups as well as marketing and broadcast deals, according to three law enforcement officials with direct knowledge of the case. The charges include wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering, and officials said they targeted members of FIFA’s powerful executive committee, which wields enormous power and does its business largely in secret."
 
As expected, the shit begins to roll uphill:


Jack Warner threatened to implicate FIFA in involvement in the Trinidad and Tobago elections in 2010.

Warner, in an address televised on TV6 on Wednesday night, said he has evidence of "a link between FIFA, its funding and me, the link between FIFA, its funding and the United National Congress and the People's Partnership Government in general election 2010."


The 72-year-old also indicated his documents directly implicate Blatter.


"It also deals with my knowledge of international transactions at FIFA, including its president Mr. Sepp Blatter and, lastly, other matters involving the nation's current prime minister," he continued.


Warner claimed he protected FIFA from his allegations, but now that he is implicated in corrupt activity, he is turning on his former employer.


"I have, in these circumstances, decided that I will no longer keep secrets for them who now seek to actively destroy this country in which I live," he said. "I have decided that I will no longer keep secrets for those persons who now seek to actively destroy this country's hard-won international image, this country's fate.


"I have no intention of allowing them to deprive me of my freedom. I reasonably and surely fear for my life. I have, as promised, compiled a comprehensive and detailed series of documents, including checks and corroborated statements, and placed them in different and respected hands.


"I have, in effect, placed the outcome of those matters beyond even my own reach. Retracting them is now an impossibility. There can be no turning back."

I would imagine being the world's largest sport and how much attention the corruption/bribing being done at its highest levels, will have a major impact on leagues in the US. I bet the collective butt cheeks on Goodell, Silver, and Manfred are puckering up because of all the scrutinizing that is sure to come now.

Glad to see Blatter and his cronies will be going to FPMITA prison soon enough.

And what countries are the NFL, NBA and MLB taking bribes from, what elections are they rigging and which broadcasters are they squeezing personal money from in their well-publicized contract negotiations? C'mon, that's tin foil hat stuff there.

You honestly don't think the teams themselves or the league doesn't line the pockets of local government officials wether it be directly to and/or from their own pocket or by other means?

That's some naive stuff right there.

Big businesses don't get to where they are without doing things most individuals would find morally objectionable. If it makes a profit for them, I'm sure they would look at what costs them less and that's the route they take.

Without evidence to the contrary, I say they are not lining their own pockets will ill-gotten gains. But, I don't see evil in every corporation or every rich person like some people do.
 
Ireland Football Association admits to accepting a payoff from Blatter to not challenge 2010 qualifier match where Thierry Henry's handball went missed and cost them the game.
 
who gives a flying fuck? Seriously, I could care less for FIFA, or any sport organization. If the NFL or NBA is corrupt as fuck (probably is), I wouldn't care either.

Why the hell is the news coverage of this shit 24/7 instead of real news, and real corruption?
 
Right cause modifying military equipment exporting policies just for votes to give you the world cup is not real corruption.

Because maybe you view those actions and attitudes as something to worship and emulate. Thus you are going to make your own actions and viewpoints work to support that as much as is possible until someone can give 100% they are real. Thus if something is not yet shown as 100% real it is 100% false until it suddenly somehow becomes 100% real when the act is impossible to sustain under full visibility.

then why isn't the media covering the NCAA systemic exploitation of "student athletes"? Bullshit recruitment practices, and sky high salaries for athletic directors.

what about the NFL's brain injury problem? These things get only a fraction of the coverage of the FIFA scandal, and it's happen right now in the USA.
 
A BBC investigation has seen evidence that details what happened to the $10m sent from Fifa to accounts controlled by former vice-president Jack Warner.

The money, sent on behalf of South Africa, was meant to be used for its Caribbean diaspora legacy programme.

But documents suggest Mr Warner used the payment for cash withdrawals, personal loans and to launder money.

The documents reveal how the money was spent and moved around.

JTA Supermarkets, a large chain in Trinidad, received $4,860,000 from the accounts.

The money was paid in instalments from January 2008 to March 2009. The largest payment was $1,350,000 paid in February 2008.

US prosecutors say the money was mostly paid back to Mr Warner in local currency.

Frontline did a full episode on this shit. ESPN even withdrew from working with Frontline when the NFL starting to lose their Ebola infested shit.
