The few I looked up were between 30k and 45k (Old Traford excluded), but I didn't look up a bunch of the smaller clubs. But yes, the US has everything in place to host a World Cup with little "prep". We have stadiums, hotels, transportation, food accommodations, etc in place already.

I think the US has a good chance of getting the 2026 bid IF they want. Although, the chance of FIFA awarding it to a country willing to actually arrest the corrupt people at the top is probably pretty low.

I am late to this but England, Germany, USA could host it with very short notice. The infrastructure is already there. England has lots of stadiums with the required capacities 50, 60, 90k and could use the Rugby stadium (Twickenham) if needed.

This will never happen though, Qatar and Russia will host the world cups whatever happens.

This is an interesting article if you want to know how FIFA generates money and what sources

FIFA president election going on today. Even with so many organizations coming out against Blatter, it doesn't matter IMO. There are so many small countries that get the same amount of vote power who don't want things to change. They like the money they are getting.

Apparently all of the countries in Africa are 100% for this Sebb dude. That continent alone is probably enough to solidify any scumbag's tenure as long as they are in the bag.

Every time this guy opens his mouth, he just looks dumber and dumber. FIFA is screwed. I hope UEFA withdraws from FIFA. That would really screw them. Too bad it won't happen.

It's possible, the UEFA seems to be the only big group opposing this. The Africa and Asian groups seem to want him back.

I could have sworn I read yesterday that the vote was being delayed. It's nuts to do this in the current situation, but the sooner the vote the more likely he stays in, so why delay it I guess.

Well, as I was looking for a hilarious quote, CNN is reporting he already won the election. LOL

Sepp Blatter was elected to his fifth term as president of FIFA on Friday. It came just days after 14 former or current executives and associates were indicted by the U.S. Justice Department in sweeping charges of racketeering stemming from an alleged widespread culture of bribery and kickbacks.

In the end though, it hardly mattered. After blocking Blatter from getting a two-thirds majority on the first vote, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan – needing to switch some 31 votes his way – withdrew from the race before the conclusion of the second majority vote. And with that, Blatter is back for four more years.

does it really matter? if Sepp lost he will be replaced by another corrupted one

and tbh, he probably cut a deal with the feds to have those 12 dudes arrest to save his ass

The way FIFA is set up is a complete farce. Having Micronesia with it's 100k inhabitants have the same say as Germany in how FIFA is run and what decisions are made is patently absurd. No wonder it's such a complete sordid mess.

UEFA / the European leagues should leave FIFA and ban players on their rosters from playing in FIFA tournaments, that would get change happening in a hurry.

What is FIFA's role, anyway? I'm completely ignorant to how the soccer world organizes itself. UEFA/Euro/American hemisphere, blah blah, I'm not sure who is part of what.

UEFA is the primary professional organization--that is basically in charge of the organized teams, like Arsenal and Liverpool United; the big European teams--basically the NFL/MLB, etc?

And FIFA is in charge of all international competition? So, do they only govern and organize events that involve the national teams from each country? Like the Olympics, World Cup, European championships, etc?

This is a good thing. His inevitable perp-walk will be even more schadenfreude-y if he's the current FIFA pres when they slap the cuffs on him.

fifa is the sanctioning body for worldwide international play, although the regional leagues follow fifa's lead. they own the right to hold a tournament and crown the one and only "world champion" (which actually involves teams from more than 1 country). uefa governs international european play. the manchester uniteds and chelseas, private non-national teams, are part of the privately owned premier league. each country will have their own private league usually owned by a bank or some similar parasite, but i don't know who governs inter-league games. you can bet (no pun) that every local, national and regional league kicks money upstairs until it gets to fifa.

team owners owning the sanctioning body seems to be a uniquely american situation, with both pro's and con's. what's awesome about the premier league is that there is so much support for the game there are teams galore, and the bottom ranked 1 or 2 get bumped out of the big league.

I think if EUFA, and North and South America just form their own league, FIFA then can just f off.
