Well, this is a good thing for FIFA. I just wonder why this idiot would resign after the election though. I bet something behind the scenes happened. Hopefully, he will be arrested soon.

Here's my uneducated guess.

- Investigators were incensed that the guy had the audacity to not step aside before the election.
- There wasn't enough time to ramp up the arm-twisting in the two days between the arrests and the election, and the guy knew he had the votes to win anyway.
- It took a few days for the word to be spread behind the scenes that the bribe party is over and SHTF day is imminent for the Emperor-For-Life, and if FIFA would like to retain even a shred of dignity, the choice is clear. This is how the other corrupt officials can stay in power - throw people overboard until the lust for vengeance is sated.

The #2 guy Jerome Valcke at FIFA is implicated in a payment of $10M to Jack Warner who is now arrested on bribery charges. This all stems from the South African World Cup.

You cant be the president and not know about what your #2 is doing, FIFA denied the payment and then the documents got leaked, thus the resignation we see today.

I'm guessing they have evidence against Blatter and it wont be long now.

I really hope they do. Besides, with all the arrests I'm sure a few will roll over on a latter for lesser sentences.

More likely scenario:

- Blatter spends FIFA money to buy enough votes for himself to assure re-election.
- Blatter wins even though he has no intention of serving out his term
- Blatter spends FIFA money to buy votes for his hand-picked successor
- Blatter collects huge kickback from incoming FIFA president as soon as the new guy gets the password to the FIFA bank accounts.

That and he said he will remain till a new election is made, probably not till next year. So gives him time to cover up as much as he can with FIFA money.

While I think this is likely, there's also the very real possibility Sepp knew but just didn't give a fuck. That or, someone big just rolled over.

The scope of the investigation, by multiple countries... I just don't see this ending well for anyone involved.

Rich people. They might get a slap on the wrist but once all this rolls over and people forgot about it they'll still be swimming in their swimming pools, which are part of their yacht, which is actually in a larger pool, part of a larger yacht.

We'll see. They also screwed around with a sacred aspect of life: It's not about some petty bullshit thing like embezzling taxpayer money, or rigging an industry in a way that wrecks the livelihood of workers, or a way of robbing people of guaranteed rights.
This is a sport, something that actually matters, so people are going to be vocally pissed off about it.

I know you're not being serious in this post, but that is exactly how a lot of people feel about it.

Thankfully this will finally put an end to corruption in FIFA.

All the rats trying to save themselves by cutting deals may be enough to simply bring down the organization. I highly suspect that the government has barely scratched the surface of an oceanic sized rapacity.

And this happens on the eve of a pretty big sporting event. Cuba national team playing against an NASL team and it is being broadcast on TV.
