Fiesta 1.0L 45 mpg hwy

Not to mention the Ecoboost 1.0L is 123 horsepower between 1,400 and 4,500 rpm, 148 pound-feet of torque from 1,400 to 4,000 rpm. I believe in the Fiesta version it's 99HP and 121 pound-feet.
 
Apparently this engine has 123 hp... They should build a straight 6 2.0L version with 246hp and put it into a sports car.

How about a 4.0L V12 with 500hp?
 
That's really awesome that they are finally bringing this over! I was very skeptical the 1.0 turbo would make it here to the US. It has been winning big in Europe including some "Best Engine" awards

45 MPG HWY with 120+ HP and a manual in a Fiesta is sure to be a good time. The big loser here is not hybrids but diesel IMO. This car has diesel-like fuel economy and you get to have the regular gas price savings...

This is the first example that makes the small turbo 4 cyl worth it IMO. Chevy Cruze and Sonic come close but 45 mpg is damn impressive. Especially if that's true to the EPA rating, meaning careful 55 mph driving should put you well over 50+ MPG. Hypermilers will love it. Just hope they didn't overshoot and have to adjust the rating down after threats of lawsuits, as seems to be the trend lately...

Only the SFE version is rated at 45 hwy, I believe.

$1K extra for a small improvement in fuel economy.

If the Fiesta was a Honda/Toyota product and we compared it with the Corolla, the Corolla would still win based upon the reasons I pointed out.

It's still seems to be a $1K option for little gain, imo.

Some articles called this an SFE package, but Ford doesn't seem to be calling it that. If it were marketed as SFE, Logically there would also be a non-SFE version.

IIRC this 1.0L is the one with the "lifetime" timing belt that is submerged in the engine oil.

I don't have a rebuttal because you're correct that they are not only different classes of vehicles but that the Fiesta is priced like a Yaris rather than a Corolla. I just remember the car being really expensive at one point. With this said, the Yaris has a better (albiet still pathetic) 4 spd automatic transmission while Ford has that awful automated manual transmission. So yes the Fiesta is suppose to get better fuel economy than the Yaris but real world estimates according to fuelly.com puts the Fiesta as the same fuel economy as the Yaris. However with the small price difference between all of the vehicles and the lack of improvement in fuel economy going from a Corolla/Focus to a Yaris/Fiesta, I'd pick the better car.

It is technically a package. For SE model Fiestas with manual transmissions you can add the SFE Package, which is the 1.0L, special wheel covers, SFE badging ect. Without the package the car is an SE. Personally I don't care about the mileage, I love how much torque it has down low. If they had the option to just drop in the engine with either transmission (and maybe an ecoboost badge for smexiness) I would have gladly paid 1K for that. 😀

So it's all personal opinion? The DCT from Ford has had issues in the past yes, as every manufacturer experimenting with them has. The fact remains that in terms of putting power down while maintaining mpg the fiesta outshines by a long shot. That's not even just on paper, I drive both daily. The Yaris has to rev high for any hill on the highway, the fiesta doesn't work so hard. The automated manual is a much more spirited drive as well, while the yaris is very slushy.

DCT's aren't going anywhere soon. They are more efficient than slushboxes, alot of the issues are user education on how to drive them.
 
Just a point...MPG highway estimates are based on 60mph max. cruising and an average MPH of less than 50....the EPA's 'high speed' test spends most of the time between 60 and 70mph....with a short burst of 80 and a couple of stop/starts....

Those of us who measure our MPG on the highway drive quite a bit faster average...I myself test a "low" speed average of 65-70 and a high speed average of 75-80, for at least 2 hours...I may have to try a 55-60mph test...(I don't think I can cruise any slower than that here in south Florida on any highway that didn't have stops every few miles...)

But there is a 1.6L SFE Fiesta listed separately at the Fuel Economy site, so how can the Fiesta SFE package be the 1.0L?

That's odd they list it that way. The 1.6L is the SEFE package. Its for SE's that are automatics rather than manual. Comes with 15" wheels, LRR tires, special aero wheel covers, 6spd auto, and is 95$.
 
There are two Fiesta SFE packages, one with the 1.6L 6A and one with the 1.0T 5M.

Go to ford's website, start configuring an SE, manual, and see what the option to change from the 1.6L to the 1.0L is. It's the SFE package.

Compared to 120ft.lb @ 4250-4500RPM for the 1.6L NA, that's a pretty good pick up in stop and go traffic. The only vehicles I know that don't wind u to at least 2500RPM to get going are trucks ect with V8's or diesel cars.
