A friend pointed this one out to me and I was surprised at how accurate it was:

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within would have been a much better movie if it didn't have "Final Fantasy" in the title.

Seriously, think about it. What was the biggest let-down of that film? It wasn't the graphics, it wasn't the voice acting, and it wasn't the plot, (so much) it was the fact that we expected a Final Fantasy-style adventure, with magic and boss fights and oversized weapons, and we didn't get it. We got for the most part a non-confrontational plot, something that couldn't possibly be made into a game, which is exactly what we expected going into the movie.

Watch it a second time and completely ignore the "Final Fantasy" in the title. It'll be loads better.

For those of you who've got the DVD now and need the subtitles later, you can always check here. (Ads NSFW) I've yet to find a movie that didn't have subtitles there, if they're out.

naw it was the plot and the voice acting and the wooden animation all so horrible u have to wonder what they were thinking. i wasn't a fan of the games so i didn't expect anything other then a good film. most critics at the time i bet weren't gamers either. so meh

Well I'll be a son-of-a-bitch, you're right. I've heard Sept 13th for a long time now, and just never really thought that a movie would be delayed any longer than it has. It originally was thought to come out this time last year.
