Never been to a CB so I don't really care. I would only have an issue if they snuck fake meat into something but didn't state the fact. I'm a NYer and am used to the fake food vegan BS that pops up everywhere. I just wish "vegans" would invent there own food shapes and stop calling fake meat as burgers or hot dogs. Make your own shit up!

I've cooked with Beyond Meat for my SIL before, but haven't tried it myself. It looks decent amount, but they have an insane amount of fat in them much more than the ground sirloin I typically use and way more than turkey. I have a heard time believing they aren't worse for you than lean meat.
Not going to launch a debate about nutrition. I do have a few comments. The whole fat is bad mantra you are repeating is horse shit. And regardless of what reasons medical science has cited over the decades, as why too much red meat is bad for you, they still think it is. L-carnitine is a far more likely candidate than saturated fat as to why it is unhealthy to eat it in the quantities most Americans do. https://www.nature.com/articles/nature.2013.12746

You don't have to accept it is healthier. I certainly don't give a shit how much red meat you eat. Bone apple tea my good man. 😀

You lost me there. Making a hot dog out of plants is no more unusual than most of the other things used to make them. 😉

At some point it's still a shit ton of extra calories, which are bad for you.

Extra kcals for whom? Sedentary people? Certainly. I am in full agreeance. For those of us that are very physically active it is just fuel.

It's a balance regardless of how much physical activity you have. Sure if you are training for the Olympics maybe it's hard to eat in excess, but for most people that aren't paid to work out, it's pretty easy to consume too many calories.

Fat satiates appetite. You are better off getting kcals from fats, particularly healthy fats than most carbs. Glycemic index is important. You seem to be defending your position on fat. No need, again, I don't give a shit what you eat. Or what your view on fat as a macro is. I don't control my fat intake, I am in great shape for a late 50s male, and I don' get paid to train. Crazy right?

All I said is I haven't tried it because it has a shit ton of calories versus lean meat. I should've known you can't say anything about fat on the internet without starting a bro-science, nutritional debate, that will almost definitely turn into a dick measure contest and "do you even lift bro?"

I'm glad you can eat what you want and extra calories don't matter for you. They do for the vast majority of the country. Yes, fat can make you feel full sooner and longer, but you can still consume an extreme amount of calories on fat.

Again, I don't eat it because I try to watch my calories. Why? Because I tend to slowly gain weight when I don't, even though I do multiple hours of intense cardio and weight lifting a week as well as being generally active in the evenings and weekend.

Also, fat floats around in your blood, it'll ruin a platelets donation if you donate within 12 hours of eating a high fat meal. Maybe that doesn't cause any issues, but I have my doubts.

We actually have a Cracker Barrel like 15 minutes away from me... I haven't eaten there in awhile but the last time I did it was pretty good AND pretty cheap! (I used to go for blueberry pancakes)

And who freaking cares about nonsense like this? Literally, GET A LIFE!

🙄

The fuck did that come from? Would you like to fill out the butthurt report?

I provided personal anecdotal experience as to why I think your position is the slippery slope fallacy. Nice strawman though. That mofo strawman called you a beta cuck, said you don't lift weights, and wanted to measure penises with you. Did they unban Alky? 😛

Nature.com is bro science? Fuck out of here.

While they're not especially "healthy" I would bet whatever amount of money you care to wager that plant-based burgers are healthier then beef. (and I LOVE beef burgers!)

Fats in general are not the problem.... SATURATED fat is the bad kind that you want to avoid.... you know the kind you find even in so-called "lean" meat burgers?

I agree you didn't quite get to the "do you even lift, bro?" Part of the discussion.

Not sure what slippy slop is, most Americans already eat an excessive amount of calories, replacing lean meat with high fat fake meat probably isn't good for them. But I started off just saying that is why I personally haven't tried it.

If the high fat in the fake meat makes them eat less otherwise, then maybe it would be a net benefits, but I doubt that actually works for most people.

I think depending on how you define healthy and which type of beef you use as the baseline, you could show it either way.

Compared to most restaurant burger patties, I think it's probably a given. Lean beef I think it would depend on you defined "healthy."

More hyperbole.

The leanest ground beef commonly available is still in the area of 10% saturated fat which is the kind that clogs arteries.

I do agree that "simulated meat" is maybe not the best way to get your veggies though!

😉

What jumps out about "impossible" as a negative to me is the 370mg's of sodium (or 7.4 teaspoons!) in 4 ounces of "meete" not the 8 grams of saturated fat. ("lean" beef has roughly 9 grams plus 1.5g's trans-fats)
A quick google says that natural trans-fats in Beef isn't a big deal like the man-made trans-fats.

I mean, if you really care about health, should probably be eating bean burgers or at least turkey burgers. Not the veggie burgers that are trying to simulate a meat experience.

It's nowhere near as big a problem as the stuff in baked goods for example. Still not healthy though.

To be fair it's entirely possible to consume way too much "healthy" fat too (ie: EVOO) and gain a bunch of weight resulting in similar issues.

😀 I guess it did turn into a debate on nutrition. You keep eating that beef, enjoy. Keep thinking fat is bad. I presented some info on how the public has been gaslit about fats for decades. I am done here.

LOL you can die from drinking too much water. Come on man.

I tried it once just to try it and I wasn't impressed .... if I'm going to have a "veggie" burger I'll get the kind that's trying to be a delicious VEGGIE-burger. (a local deli here serves a spicy black-bean "burger" that's to die for but they don't in any way taste like meat)
