Today's republicans are basically like North Koreans, and I don't see this as hyperbolic. Just listen to brandonbull and tajjy and the like: They are completely gaslighted to the point that they simply do not accept the truth of the world around them anymore.

It's actually kind of terrifying that in an open-information country like this, they have willfully chosen to accept blatant lies as their reality and openly reject simple and obvious truths that make them just a little too uncomfortable. It makes me wonder how difficult it will be for them to return themselves to the First World, like will eventually happen with North Koreans, when their self-anointed god-despot is removed from power.

The alt-right as the imprisoned personality cult of the North Korean population--They truly are the same thing, except that here in the US they choose to be this way. They fucking choose it.

Happy Holidays, assholes!

I'm in agreement with your assessment of blatant disregard of factual information. It's like some people are actually working to be a contrarian on purpose. I guess you are mad that Santa didn't bring the impeachment and removal of Trump that you asked for. Zinfamous and the rest of his totalitarian government supporters have no problems making wild and tinfoil hat-ish claims about Trump on a number of topics with zero evidence. We have seen numerous accounts of the Democrats, Obama, and top government officials under Obama hiding information, stopping investigations, paying foreign nationals to produce dossiers, spying on citizens and political opponents, extorting corporations for billions to fund community groups and terrorists, working with Russia and Iran, and campaign rigging, but only to have this dismissed as a nothingburger or a deflection. The self anointed despots seem to be monopolized by the left and their violent gang of do-gooders because they were promised Hillary for president, but the silly constitution got in the way of that so it's time to invent "truths" and #resist until Trump is removed from office.

Sorry that I can't see your point of view, I guess it's evolution that prevents my head from going that for up my ass.

Even as the Deputy Director leaves this post I wonder what other pressures Trump will attempt to exert to obstruct the investigation. Because he doesn't read anything or study history he isn't versed in what happened to Nixon and it shows in his lack of restraint.

FBI basically put Trump in power. The irony is thick here. He is like Stalin purging the old guard Bolsheviks.

David Bowdich. His name is David Bowdich and is the one likely to replace McCabe. Out of the Los Angeles field office. He’s the associate deputy director now since April 2016.

I really wish he wouldn't. People who don't have aspirations of continuing a political career and instead are in it at this point for the service they provide are fleeing this political climate. It must be deeply personally unsettling to be in a public position right now as a person with integrity, particularly for a Republican.

I understand the complaints about how the FBI is operating so heavily as a political force, but really it would be impossible for them not to be when major potentially criminal threats to national security arise intimately connected to not just one but both major party presidential candidates.

I think, by and large, the FBI just wants to investigate threats to the US and keep it safe from criminal and terrorist activity. There's nothing they could have done to avoid being a political mouthpiece in some fashion in the setting of Clinton e-mail and Russia investigations.

I hope it's a 24yo with zero qualifications.
Based on Trump's high level hires they won't be black. He'll look for another unqualified white guy. Like some in this forum have said that doesn't matter.

Deputy director is not a presidential appointment. Chris Wray will make the appointment but it’s valid to argue with what input from Trump. As it stands I’d wager money on it being David Bowdich.

Well this should add to the right wing nuttery with McCabes departure. Apparently Christopher Wray went to the hill to view the FISA memo on the weekend. Now they are tying that to McCabes leaving today.

Wasn't this guy retiring very soon anyway?

Only because he's become a lightning rod for GOP attacks on the FBI. The reason he move it up is because he can take accumulated leave to hit the magic numbers of the pension plan.

Apparently Kelly, when talking to FBI officials to tell them how much the White House hates them, has taken to ending conversations by saying nothing they talked about should imply they should do anything unethical or illegal. Think about how insane/pathetic/scary that is, that the Chief of Staff feels the need to clarify that he's not asking federal law enforcement to commit crimes.

They are clearly extremely afraid of obstruction charges at this point.

What in the motherfucking hell...

I know Trump is an incredibly small person, hugely petty, and an asshole of immense proportions but even for him this is quite the tale.

The day after President Donald Trump fired James Comey, he became so furious watching television footage of the ousted FBI director boarding a government-funded plane from Los Angeles back to Washington, D.C. that he called the bureau’s acting director, Andrew McCabe, to vent, according to multiple people familiar with the phone call.

Trump demanded to know why Comey was allowed to fly on an FBI plane after he had been fired, these people said. McCabe told the president he hadn’t been asked to authorize Comey’s flight, but if anyone had asked, he would have approved it, three people familiar with the call recounted to NBC News.

The president was silent for a moment and then turned on McCabe, suggesting he ask his wife how it feels to be a loser — an apparent reference to a failed campaign for state office in Virginia that McCabe’s wife made in 2015.

McCabe replied: “OK, sir.” Trump then hung up the phone.

The phone call between Trump and McCabe after Comey’s firing last May underscores the president’s continued fixation on where the loyalties of people around him may lie and his frustration with autonomous arms of the government — particularly ones involved in the Russia investigation. It’s also emblematic of his early and persistent distrust of top Justice Department officials.

The combination of those sentiments whipped the president into such a fury over Comey last year that he wanted his firing to abruptly strip him of any trappings that come with the office and leave him across the country scrambling to find his own way home.

McCabe detailed his conversation with Trump after Comey’s firing to several people at the Justice Department, people familiar with the matter said.

Please do not feel pressured while I pressure you at the President's direct order.
