Favorite Valve Game?

Best value ever was $1 for Bejewelled for my wife. She enjoyed it immensely, and for the first time started taking an interest in computer games beyond solitaire.

Sacraster im such a noob, i looked over this so many times to see i had the right games, wow i cant believe i missed spelled that

Value? i think you mean Valve?
You'd think that the Valve intro movie with the fat, bald guy with the valve attached to the back of his head would be kind of hard to miss ...

I've spent many times more hours on TF2 than the other Valve games combined.

It's not even close - TF2. I have logged countless hours in it, and they're STILL updating it, to this day, 1.5 years after its initial release. Oh, and all that new content is 100% free.

It was $10 this past weekend. Unbelievably solid value.

Half-Life 2 for story and immersion.
Left 4 Dead for sheer fun of killing zombies (and zombies killing people).

If I have to choose, Half-Life 2. The episodes are part of continuity, so I wouldn't distinguish them from HL2. Half-Life 1 was good, but updated engine just makes HL2 better. Plus HL2 has Alyx and Dog 🙂

Change your OP

Counter Strike before Steam came out (pre 1.6) has taken the most time of any game of my life ever. Spent years playing it many hours a day.

I worked out how much I paid /hour played and found that Diablo 2 was the best value game I've played. Surprisingly WoW was in the top 5 despite the monthly fee.

Definitely Half Life. That game was a completely different and amazing game to play when it first came out. Portal would be a distance second for me.

Honestly, I don't like any of the valve games all that much, I don't know what's wrong with me, but they just don't click with me in general. Overall, I rank:

1. Portal (Fun, could've been longer. Didn't care for the "humor." Overall a forgettable experience. Still rank it number one though, oddly enough.)

2. Left 4 Dead (Once again, fun for a little while, but really lacks in content. Playing with friends extends the game a little bit, but only so much. Needs more campaigns.)

3. Garry's Mod (Great sandbox tool and a lot can be done with it, unfortunately I get frustrated and quit before I've accomplished anything.)

(the rest in any order)
Team Fortress 2 (Bland and lackluster. Yes I said it. I honestly don't see what's so great about this game. I don't like the art style, the weapons, etc. Basically the whole game gives me a headache.)

Day of Defeat Source (I've only tinkered around a little with this game, but honestly so many other games do the whole WWII thing better.)

Counter Strike Source (I've made several attempts to get into CS:S, but the community is so advanced by now that pretty much any n00b gets torn to shreds. I've given up playing this game frustrated so many times.)

Half-Life (I'd rank this near the top, but honestly I don't remember much from it any more. Leagues better than HL2 though.)

Half-Life 2 (Another one I don't understand. The game is downright boring. Scenery is drab and dull. Story is boring and forgetful. One of the most disappointing games I've played after hearing other's thoughts.)

Half-Life 2 Episodes (Either) (See HL2 comment above)

VALVE! It's Valve, not value. For liking them so much you could at least get their name right

if u read any of the first 7 posts on this forum you would know i know i made a mistake...

the HL2 Episodes aren't really stand alone games, they should be included with HL2

that being said L4D is my favorite because of the extreme level of teamwork it requires and the fact that its so very different (and thus refreshing) compared to most FPSes

That being said, I think Valve could really outdo themselves in the future, say if they include things they've learned from Portal (the portal gun) and L4D (co-op) into an upcoming HL game.

Their best game overall? That just may be portal, it's fun and something truly different.

Best game for its time? Easily the original halflife. It was so amazing and did things that hadn't been done before, and wouldn't be successfully copied for a very long time.
