So difficult to choose one, so i just chose the one I've been playing the most recently, which is TF2.

I got another copy of the game (for $10, woot) for my little brother and it's been a lot of fun playing together.

CS:S, guess I don't get the groove of TF2, HL2ep is kinda meh, have not tried Portal.

CS goes far back then Valve in PC games, CS 1.x has origins in modders for HL1...

For multi-player I'd say their best game is definitely Team Fortress 2, and for single-player I would go with the original Half-Life. And if I had to chose between only playing H-L or TF2 I'd go with TF2, so in the end I'd say that the best game Valve has developed in their history is indeed TF2, very closely followed by H-L, the rest is very forgettable.

Honestly, I don't like any of the valve games all that much, I don't know what's wrong with me, but they just don't click with me in general. Overall, I rank:

1. Portal (Fun, could've been longer. Didn't care for the "humor." Overall a forgettable experience. Still rank it number one though, oddly enough.)

2. Left 4 Dead (Once again, fun for a little while, but really lacks in content. Playing with friends extends the game a little bit, but only so much. Needs more campaigns.)

3. Garry's Mod (Great sandbox tool and a lot can be done with it, unfortunately I get frustrated and quit before I've accomplished anything.)

(the rest in any order)
Team Fortress 2 (Bland and lackluster. Yes I said it. I honestly don't see what's so great about this game. I don't like the art style, the weapons, etc. Basically the whole game gives me a headache.)

Day of Defeat Source (I've only tinkered around a little with this game, but honestly so many other games do the whole WWII thing better.)

Counter Strike Source (I've made several attempts to get into CS:S, but the community is so advanced by now that pretty much any n00b gets torn to shreds. I've given up playing this game frustrated so many times.)

Half-Life (I'd rank this near the top, but honestly I don't remember much from it any more. Leagues better than HL2 though.)

Half-Life 2 (Another one I don't understand. The game is downright boring. Scenery is drab and dull. Story is boring and forgetful. One of the most disappointing games I've played after hearing other's thoughts.)

Half-Life 2 Episodes (Either) (See HL2 comment above)

I don't know what to say, other than, I disagree with everything you just said.

Really, HL2 is absolutely amazing. The game never breaks atmosphere, excellent immersion (never breaks 1st person), actually makes use of it's physics engine, a compelling storyline (not forgettable in the slightest, it expands in different paths and you never quite know whats coming next), periods of fast-paced action, but just as many periods slower and less-combat focused gameplay, variety of fully-functioning vehicles and weapons, plenty of off the path exploration, elements of suspense, excellent dialogue, solid visuals without over-the-top particle effects, scenery adds to immersion - it's supposed to be depressing in some areas, puzzle sections, not to mention perfect mixing and pacing of all of the aforementioned items.

Half-Life 2 didn't do anything new, but it essentially perfected the single player FPS.

Also, Portal. The humor was hilarious, you need a better sense of humor. As for being forgettable, how do you forgot one of the most innovative games in PC history? Any longer and a game based on a single new game play function, portals, would've got boring.

That's funny, I don't recall either of them being included in the price of HL2.

Funny, for $30 you can get them + TF2 + Portal, any one of which I'd pay $50 for.

Good point, I bought them all on release so I paid much more, but your point is fair.

I like how I am the only person to vote DOD:S.

All around its a great shooter. Much better then TF2 on almost every level.

I am disappointed there is no CS 1.6 on there. That is my favorite Valve game by far. Can't wait for Black Mesa though.

HL2 and it's episodes were fun. Portal was great. All the rest of Valve's games are boring. I'm actually pretty tired of Valve games these days.

Uh...I guess I don't like any Valve game all that much. None of them appeal to me any more.

I generally agree with most everything you said about HL2... but, many other games do everything you listed better.

Honestly, I didn't feel like I was immersed. The physics engine, great for its time, was simply the extend the game. What really bothered me about HL2 is those huge periods of time where literally nothing really happens. Solve a physics puzzle here or two...whatever. But, I just wanted more action, and HL2 doesn't deliver. Sorry.

As far as portal...

Innovative? Eh. Maybe. I had fun playing this game, but it's no more innovative than any other game with a new idea. But yes, Portal is forgettable. I played through the game twice, and I have no intentions of playing the same content again. If a new portal came out or an official map pack addon came out, I'd be happy to play it, but that's about it.

And quite frankly, my sense of humor is just fine. I just don't care for a monotone voice in ears throughout the game making some stupid jokes all the time. And the ending song was even more stupid. There I said it.

But then again, I don't typically conform to what everyone else thinks is funny.

Same here - add TFC to the poll.

I still play TFC occasionally, but I've been playing this game pretty consistantly for the last 10 years.

I probably got more play time out of DoD:S than any other Valve game. Great game, but I'm totally burned out on it now.

TF2. It's a decidedly different kind of team fps then most, and I like it much more then any other online fps I've played, period.
Can do fun stuff even if you're not all that good, and almost-aim-bot super practiced players don't destroy the game the way they do in many others.

Half-Life 2 is easily the best game overall from a story, polish, and overall gameplay perspective. Half-Life 1 gets my vote though because it holds a special spot in my heart for how game-changing it was to the FPS genre for it's time.

edit: Side note I find it interesting that TF2 is winning this poll. Back in it's day HLDM, CS 1.6, and TFC pretty much monopolized online FPS gaming. It was ridiculous how popular they were, especially CS.
