That's something that some Americans don't really understand -- just how much they'd be missing.

While there are places you can live in the US where seeing any Muslim is rare, there are plenty of communities where you meet them every day and see that they're often just ordinary people trying to make their way through life. If Muslims disappeared from my community, it'd be a less vibrant place... not to mention pretty lonely, since there are quite a few of them here.

Where I live is probably about as British as you get.

My neighbour is Portuguese, three families up the road are Polish, a load of Jewish families, a Jewish college and school, a Muslim community including a mosque, and a bunch of Geordies and Gateshead'ians.

And the only ones I can't stand are from Gateshead 😛 (I can't understand a word they say either)

I get that people in the West are increasingly getting frustrated with Muslims & how they don't address extremism & extremist ideology by some preachers. Now extending that train of thought to infer that attack on some Muslims, or Muslim nations, is a siege on their religion is absurd.

A large number of Muslims are conservative by nature, even in the west, to ask them to assimilate into the society in a more meaningful way, or keeping religion inside their homes is not a bad advise. Forcing them to abandon their religious beliefs is bad though, but even then I don't see where or how they've been forced to do so.

You know you could extend that analogy to Muslims as well, they're <insert any other religion>phobes when it comes to taking sides with their own. Like I've explained it in this thread previously, I'm not from the West, don't live there & have dealt with more Muslims than many of you combined.

They are a tightly knit bunch & generally put religion as their most sacred identity, not a bad thing until you ask them to deviate even slightly from their beliefs. The quote I posted was from a doctor in Europe, imagine that & a number of other trained professionals. Islam is not at odd with anything, religion itself is a passive entity, but why can't many Muslims slipstream into modern societies more? Muslim nations tend to put non Muslims as lesser human beings, how is that not double standards from you & them?
