Because if this country full of self-absorbed lardasses is going to force me to pay for their healthcare, then I'm going to make fun them until they cry themselves thin.

Fun fact - bodily fat =/= poor health. Also, as I posted earlier, researchers are finding that people in the overweight category (note - overweight, not obese) have a lower health related mortality rate than people who are considered normal weight.

Actually I think the body is decidedly simpler to fix than the mind.

And how to lose weight is decidedly simple. Eat less and exercise more.

And if you're anything like my father or brother, no matter how much you exercise, you'll never get rid of that gut.

99% of losing weight is diet and portion control.. no amount of exercise will have you lose weight if you eat poorly... don't make excuses for people.

If you consider cereal in the morning, 2 ham sandwiches for lunch, and meat + veggies for dinner "poor eating", then you need help. Don't assume that someone is an unhealthy eater just because their bodily chemistry doesn't jive with your perspectives.

2 heaping bowls of fruit loops with whole milk for bfest, 2 12 inch subs from subway for lunch (and probably chips), a one pound steak and 2 baked potatoes for dinner...

I think that would make someone fat

Indeed. It's a good thing my family has better health and food etiquette than that.

Give me a break. Who knows what kind of cereal, what kind of milk, what is on the TWO sandwiches, or what kind of meat you are talking about for dinner. Potatoes, by the way, is not particularly healthy, and could help with weight gain.

I can't stand the constant excuses by people... remember how I said portion control? 2 sandwiches is not portion control. This has nothing to do with a magical change in society that has made their bodies resistant to weight loss...

And here you go assuming you know better than I what my own father eats on a daily basis. I guess that just goes to show how nonsensical the perspectives shared by most of the people in this thread is.

Haha. That was a complete dodge, as expected. Just keep making excuses for fat people..it totally can't be their overeating and unhealthy eating...nah..it must be some magical force out of their control!

Spoken like someone who doesn't even understand the problem. This woman is a model. Someone being held up as a standard. She might not be morbidly obese, but making fatties into models lowers the bar on acceptable weight. We should not be encouraging fatties to continue that trend. They need to be shamed into fixing their problem.

I think that I've bolded the actual problem. People validating themselves using others that they assume are the norm would be an issue. Honestly, I was mostly annoyed because it's the typical Internet bully garbage where none of these people would act this way toward someone in real life. I also don't think that shaming people is the correct way to go about it, but I'm not really too sure what is the best way.

I've actually been working on slimming down a bit (has been going well so far), and I certainly notice that I have a certain attitude toward obesity-related things. For example, I know someone that had one of the weight-loss surgeries, and I simply cannot feel happy for that person. I just have this pervasive thought that they're essentially cheating. I think it's really important to have that mental change to push yourself to be a bit more cautious over what you eat and not a physical change to force yourself to eat less. I can't remember the person's exact words, but I had someone tell me that they were proud of the way they are or something like that. That just blew my mind. I also hate terms like "BBW" or "Fluffy." I guess I'm just a self-hating fatty. :p

I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. Portion control is calorie control, and chances are that two ham sandwiches are within what someone should have in a single meal -- that's including things like an appropriate amount of cheese and mayo. Do note the emphasis placed on "an appropriate amount" as those two items normally have quite the amount of calories!

Honestly, I think you're making a ton of assumptions that are all falling on the negative side because that's what you want it to be.

If you want to lose weight and you are eating unnecessary calories like mayo, then you are doing it wrong..especially if your method of choice has not worked out thus far!

I know how to lose weight... I've done it multiple times in my life... it isn't rocket science. This fantasy that many people just can't do it because of their bodies is ludicrous... a miniscule percentage of the population might have this problem, but it is insaaanely rare.

There you go making assumptions again. First you assume that my dad eats 2 Schlotzsky's sized sandwiches for lunch, which is incorrect. Then you assume that he eats his sandwiches with mayo, which is also incorrect.

no, exercise is way more important, you can eat like total shit but if you're doing the work you will burn every last bit

And even if you don't burn every last bit, exercise will still help improve the condition of the heart and metabolic rate.
