124mph in a Saturn SL2, pretty much topped out. (driving)
105 in a Geo Metro (yup 3 banger, i was amazed too wasn't even down hill..:) ) Funny thing about it though was that it was a rough ride from 60 mph up but once you hit 95 it smothed out. (not driving)
145 in a Lincoln LSC, vary scary. (not driving)

105-110 in my Ford Contour. I didn't look long enough to get an accurate reading.

I've done 100mph down rt 2, in a 91 mini van, while being tailed by a bunch of bumbling Rv's down a hill.

127 mph in a chrysler lebaron turbo fown I-84 headed to twin falls. Some harley was beside me half the way. I just saw the cop first and got slowed down... hehehe

You should have seen the guy when I passed him, sitting there on the side of the road, talking to the officer and pointing at me when I passed by... hehe

125 in a friend's GTI VR6 - he was too much of a panzy to go any faster.

Only 117 in my dad's '95 Maxima. I went out with full intention to max it out and then the limiter kicked in at 117, I was pissed!

120mph in a 1965 Dodge Polara stationwagon of all things. My old Super Beetle would only do 87mph tops when floored on a flat road.

Not exactly a speed record, but for those of you in OR it will mean something... I've done 90 mph down 185th Avenue in Beaverton.

143 MPH '93 NSX -- Extremely smooth and controllable ride even at that speed but not enough testicular fortitude to drive any further or faster with 10 points on my license!

120 MPH '95 Maxima SE -- I don't think the 95 SE has a governor/limiter. The top-end is between 135-140.

RKS, the Maxima SE does come from the factory with a speed limitor chip that intervenes at 118 mph (actually it intervenes at some metric speed, so 118 is a rounded conversion). It is very easy to have the engine management chip replaced with a non-governed chip, but all factory Maximas have the limiter at 118. The Maxima does have a "soft" speed limiter, which means that when you run into the limiter it simply holds the car at the limiting speed without shutting down the engine or producing that wonderfull stuttering sound. It is possible to be on a "soft" speed limiter and never notice it. I would have to agree with your estimate of an unlimited top speed for the Maxima though.

Zenmervolt:

You may be right, I haven't pushed the 'family sedan' but I believe the GLE was and GXE may have been the governed models not the SE. I'll try to check this however on the Maxima forum

I did about 105 in a Chevy Caprice Classic station wagon... with a luggage carrier on top. The engine had plenty more to go (of course.. those V8's had a lot of power), but the carrier made the entire car start to shake at around 100 :p

125 (estimated, 115MPH speedo, out ran a 1995 mustang GT convertible) in my Grand Prix
115 (estimated, 100MPH speedo) in a '78 GMC, 4x4 3/4 ton truck, I think i actually caused a civic to be blown off the road when I passed :)

I've pulled triple digits for about half an hour straight in my GP on the way back from LA, and oddly enough I kept finding morons that would flush out the cops for me :)

In a car: speedo said 153 in a 3rd generation RX-7

On a bike: off the throttle, and slowing down (and grabbing a peek) a tick under 160 on a new GSX-R 750

<< I got clocked at 126mph after throttling down from 157mph...in a 35mph zone. Car was/is a 1988 Mustang Saleen. Got away with a verbal warning. >>

Either you knew the cop, or you gave him a blowjob. :)

"jsm, the two are a difference in seriousness. Speeding is regarded as an infraction, cop pulls you over, makes you sign a paper, lets you go. Drug use/possession is usually a misdemeanor/felony offense, and is much more serious than speeding. For the latter, you usually get hauled off to jail instead of let go. Besides, if topics on speeding were banned, you'd have to do the same for jaywalking and riding a bike in nondesignated areas, because those are also infractions."

Actually, in California, going over 100mph is regarded as reckless driving and they can actually arrest you and take you into jail. In California, you will only get a ticket for possession of certain drugs. So, your point is moot.

Again, we need to figure out why a specific topic is not regarded as acceptable. Is it due to the severity? Is using Napster which violates very specific laws and is illegal an acceptable topic? People have talked about using OpenNap and haven't been chastized.. yet we chastize someone for talking about marijuana.

Like I have said previously, the logic here is a bit skewed and seems inconsistent.

148 MPH(240 KPH) in the BMW I formerly owned while in Germany. On Autobahn 45.

Was once riding with a German friend in his Porsche 911. We were cruising about 200 KPH or 125 MPH. A dude on a motorcycle passed us relatively quickly. He says to me "Zats a crazy man".

110 MPH on my Harley-Davidson. Also in Germany.

128 MPH at the end of a quarter mile during a sanctioned drag race.

I've got a 93 mustang gt. I've taken it to around.. 110. It SO DOESN'T care! I was amazed. That little 5.0 likes to go. I know it has lots more power. I take it to 110 everytime i feel like passing. Anywhere, its got so much get up and go :) Better than my previous 84 firebird with a v6.
Mostly its between albany and corvallis oregon, on hwy 20.

Before that it was 120. In a 73 plymouth satelite, with a 318, not souped at all. Scariest thing i've ever done.It was old the brakes were old, and the damn thing rattled and shook at 65, yups. I was insane, I had a friend with me and he said "you've never maxed out the speed on this thing? Well do it" So I did on the way to medford that day.
