As a Firefox user and loyalist, I must say, I found Opera to be slightly faster than Firefox.

Though...I have done no accurate tests to prove this, it's just the impression I got when using it for a short period of time.

You can get historical perf data for Mozilla/SeaMonkey/Firefox from http://tinderbox.mozilla.org/showbuilds.cgi?tree=SeaMonkey by clicking the "Tp" links. The test data isn't available, but it's basically real-world web pages (which is why it's not available... they're copyrighted). The build logs show URLs. Note that the test data is old (i.e. it's CNN from years ago), but you could construct a similar set of sites. Note that to test properly, you need a dedicated network between your server and client, and you need the server and client to not be the same computer. Plus, you have to run multiple times to get averaged results.

Learn something about how web browsers and the internet work before you try to "benchmark".

the download speed has nothing to do with the actual speed of the browser. if you run the test again, you will get completely different results

**Official -FireFox > IE - Confirmed**

I just downloaded a file from fileplanet, in IE I got the file in 3 minutes 20 seconds.

Then I opened Firefox and the sheer loading speed completely tore my head off. Proving to me without a doubt that Firefox is a bajillion times faster than IE.

(Just to explain, I'm really the guy who was testing next to TGS at the time. He left me a note to type this post out in the event his head was detached from his body during the firefox phase)

It's hard to dispute anecdotal testing like this. (I'll see if the security cameras captured any of the events)

Well let's just see how the results of a speedtest come up on IE Based, Firefox & Opera. All tests were done on a 10Mbit / 512Kbit Cable Connection from NTL connected over Ethernet (100Mbit), not USB.

Make your own conclusions but i'll continue using AvantBrowser for the majority of my browsing and Opera for the rest. Firefox actually stopped responding when I closed it so it gets a big thumbs down from me, lol.

All I want from a browser is it to open the pages I want, when I want. I really don't see much use in any synthetic benchmark but at least I now know i'm getting most of what I paid for from my ISP.
