Eating mediocre food in a restaurant by myself when I could pick up something quick on my way to something more exciting?

I'm a student and sometimes i simply dont have time to make dinenr or have the money to go to a sit down restaurant so I go for the quick and cheap option. Judge me all you want, but my priorities of what's worth my time is simply different from yours. I dont enjoy, and certainly wont, eat fast food everyday but it is a quick and convenient option.

You make it sound like people who eat McDonalds eat it 24/7 and refuse to eat other things

How do you know the food is mediocre? What is more exciting to you on a regular basis than eating good food with people you care about? Sadly, people are creatures of habit and in my experience people who make a habit out of eating fast food continue to do so.

because eating good food with people we care about doesn't need to happen EVERY SINGLE DAY? We eat because we have to. I find it much more enjoyable to spend time with my friends over less distractions than food in my face.

That's not to say I DON'T enjoy a good meal with my friends and family. It's just not a daily priority.

And the bottom line has been the dollar lately. And yes, laziness.

I don't cook often because I'm lazy as fuck. If I had unlimited funds I'd probably eat much better food, but for the moment it's a mix of fast food and takeout from semi-decent sit down places. I have no serious problems with either.

Don't get me wrong, I very much enjoy going out for a good meal with friends, but that's not the kind of thing I do every day.

Because if it's amazing food it'd cost a lot more just based on prep time and ingredients. You can pat yourself on the back for your food all you want, I'll wait until you get that Michelin Star. And like I said, all my friend are students and we all have a lot of other responsibilities so getting everyone together to eat is really inconvenient and more expensive.

Here's a scenario: I'm coming back from a preceptorship as 12pm and my classes start at 12:30. Do I a) grab a quick cheap meal at McDonalds and bring it into class w/ me or b) convince myself that I hate it and go hungry ?

Listen up, fatty. I eat a BigMac because I want a god damned bigmac. I don't give a rat's ass what you think of my tastes. You look down your nose at me all you want. Your opinion means jack shit to me. If you're offended by my choice of food then stay the hell away. I don't care how fat fast food has made you and how much you weight you lost since you stopped eating it. I don't care how much better a home cooked steak is. The fact of the matter is that I wanted fast food today and that's why I'm having fast food today. Your whining about it only annoys everyone around you. You're free to have your opinions, but please keep them to yourself. If you still have any complaints about my diet then you are free to take a spoon and eat my ass.

I love cooking and eating. I wish I could sit down and eat a good meal all the time. But I work so much and I'm always pressed for time that I eat fast food often because it's convenient, fast, and cheap. I normally eat while I drive to another job site. I used to eat fast food 2x a day, 6-7 days a week. This year I made resolution to eat it less and now eat it about once a day.

MagnusTheBrewer, do you ever just sit and listen to music (as in literally be doing nothing but just sitting there listening to music, not browsing the internet, not reading a book, not doing whatever)? What about your audio equipment, what's that like (what speakers do you use, what type of source do you use)?

It's a myth fast food makes you fat. I've lost 40lbs by eating fast foods twice a day. If you burn more calories than you take in, you'll lose weight.

Is the trend towards grabbing a pre-made fried $.99 whatever so endemic to our society that not only do people wax poetic regarding their favorite filler they deny the value of eating real food (unless, someone else prepares it of course)?

When did the idea that cooking for ourselves or others become a ?noob? job that doesn?t qualify for spending any time or effort on unless it?s a 2 inch porterhouse or the perfect rib recipe. What other aspect of our lives, which is required for survival, gets so little attention? Eating is a social event or should be. When did the time spent creating good food become worth less than neffing, posting on MySpace or, reading the latest nerd news?

I blame ignorance, laziness and, the blind acceptance that society (read corporate America) says there are so many more important things to do with your time. I counter with the old toast to; ?Wine, women and song and the time to enjoy them.? Try finding a fast food place that offers those!

wow, you are cool for posting how much you think fast food sucks. good job.

go away now.

I'm not willing to take the risk of trying a new restraunt. I just want to trade money for "I'm not hungry anymore" when I eat away from home. If I eat out, it's either because I don't want to cook, or because I can't go home to eat. At that point, it only needs to be good enough to be edible. And fast food delivers that consistently, with virtually no risk. My life has enough stress, I don't need food to be another source of stress. And it's also bloody cheap, compared to other restraunt food.

Another point people miss, is that eating alone in a restraunt sucks, but I can eat alone at a fast food restraunt without problems. Maybe if someone opened a restraun with high quality food, but a fast-food atmosphere...

It is about priorities. I've always been interested in how people arrived at their priorities regarding eating. While I accept, if not understand, why some people choose to put eating lower down on their list than watching tv or another time waster, I believe the majority of people who choose almost anything over good food follow the lemming principle.

There is no way to logically argue the pros and cons of people's eating habits. I am passionate about good food and great service so, I tend to get as riled up about food topics as some here do about computer trivia. :)

eh. I cook more often than not, but once in awhile, I just want a bag of salt and grease for $1 and 5 minutes of my time.

I just cooked 1lb of northern beans and 2 packages (14oz each) of Hillshire Farm smoked beef sausage in a big crockpot. (7 hours cooking time)

Add a little "I can't believe it's not Butter" to your bowl= Paradise!
Probably more unhealthy than a Whopper, but it's good eats.

$8.00/2 days of EATING for at least 2 people!
Lotta' Beans!

It simply amazes me how people obsess over what others are doing.

MYOB. If your life's purpose is trying to convince others to act as you think they should you're going to have a very bitter, unfullfilling life.

Why should I feel guilty for only spending $2-3 on a meal made by somebody else vs. $5-6 + time made by myself. It's convenient, tasty, and does the job well for those who are young and don't have a family.

If you used the same quality ingredients to cook at home what Taco Bell does, aside from being appalled, it would cost you less than a buck.

How many times have you got out of a McYucks for less than $6?

Know what I offered today? An all you can eat buffet for $7.95 which included Roast Turkey, Sauteed Trout and, Brats with sides of mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, stuffing yams, peas, carrots, seafood chowder, chicken noodle soup and chili. Oh, almost forgot salad bar, cherry cobbler, strawberry shortcake and drinks included.

Magnus, where is your brewery? That sounds fantastic !

There are a lot of reasons to eat the way people tend to eat.

In my case, it's partly time, partly logistics, and partly my snobbishness about eating leftovers.

Time- it takes time to buy the food at the store, prepare the food for eating, then it takes time to eat it, then it takes time to clean up the dishes. If I took the time to make every meal myself, that would be about 3 hours out of my day gone when everything is accounted for.

Logistics- most raw foods sold at grocery stores are sized for a small family, not an individual. If I buy a package of ground turkey breast, I have too much food if I cook it all at once. If I cook it night after night, I get tired of eating the same things every night. If I cook some of it and freeze the rest, I don't ever want to touch the rest because I'm a snob about eating leftovers. So, in most cases cooking for myself results in a waste of food.

Leftovers- I don't like them. I can afford fresh food every time I eat, so why would I want to eat something that has been sitting in the refrigerator for days? This also applies to my lunches. I'd rather eat something from a local restaurant than bring something from home that has to sit in the office refrigerator for five hours before I eat it. At least when I eat Chipotle I know the chicken was freshly made an hour ago or sooner.

Who cares if people want to eat McShit, just worry about yourself. As long as nobody is forcing you to eat that crap all should be good.

A lot has to do with your lifestyle. If you exercise and eat well and manage stress, then you will live much longer and trouble free even if your genes suck.

And even good genes won't save you from all the problems of sedentary lifestyle + fast food.

While some diseases are completely random and can happen to a person with healthy lifestyle due to genetics, MOST diseases can be prevented by exercises and good food.

Everyone should read Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. Your library may have it.

re: "I workout a lot and eat fast food all I want". Great. You burn the calories but it's like burning dirty fuel. Your system is still affected by fast food.
