While the storyline and cut scenes are not the best in the world i find it great fun, something i never found about d3. A child could have come up with the level design in d3, and gameplay style- shoot, turn around and wait for things to spawn behind you in a cramped corridor or room, shoot, turn around and wait for things to spawn behind you in a cramped corridor or room, repeat ad nauseam. All the little pda's in the world can't save that and make it fun after a while (imo at least).
Farcry has massively varied level design and very different playing styles (from cramped corridors and indoors stuff like catcombs, to unbelievably vast outdoor areas (pier, research), from fighting on foot to in vehicles and boats...plus it looks stunning and makes full use of the CryEngine...
Farcry was the sleeper hit, and even d3's own greatest fans would be hard pushed to admit that d3 lived up to it's hype. It did nothing to expand or advance the FPS genre imo...
