Grrr, GB of downloading to do tonight then. Great.

Oh BTW, if this doesn't both a)work, & b)blow my mind, I'm gonna kick your ass. ;):)

you are welcome, i would hate for you to miss out on it :)

did it work?

He got a vacation in the quoting shenanigans of the other day, he'll be back in a few days :p

Give him some time to to play Farcry then ;)

Uhoh, that's a big quote. AHHHH bannage.

Erm, anyway, yeah, it worked, although I didn't see much of a difference? I might try it again in a bit, but basically at the moment, 7900gtx, runs everything on utter max without a question, and when I added the extra content, I didn't really notice any improvement, and it got a bit jerky.

The jerkyness wasn't necessarily related to the extra content though, as every now and then the pc'll be temperamental, so hence why i'll try it again later. Glad I can try it without having to download it all again, ahhh, good ol' storage partition :D

I'm going to have to reinstall this game again considering how the times I had to reformat for upgrades. I like how crytek continue to upgrade an engine thats been out for years and charge nothing for it.

Probably because it still looks awesome and probably shames a fair few newer titles. I'd say they're probably proud of what they achieved and are glad to keep it fresh and popular, and to keep it kicking a lot of ass in the process. IMO anyway.

does anyone know if there's a working co-op mod like the Doom3 one? where you can play through the game two player?

No.

@Golgotha, yeah it will. If you are running XP 32-bit, that's what this guide is for. If you are running XP 64-bit, then you don;t need this guide ;)

Thanks a buch Dugg!

I finally got my Farcry disc back and did the 64-bit & content upgrade and it rocks! I already started a new campaign and plan on finishing it.

It looks so bad@ss on my 7800gt. I got everything maxed out and it looks amazing  (mind you the last card I played it on was my old 6600 @ low/med settings)

Keep up good work Dugg!

I am quoting myself here as noone seems to have paid attention.....
The patch i linked works with the 1.33 patch that i have installed and should with all the others.....its very very simple to install as it is just a patch with its awn installer.
USE IT!
Does this single patch replace the two others?

I don't think this question was ever answered. Should us 32-bit WinXP users use this one patch in place of both the farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe and farcry_amd64_ecu.exe patches?

it would seem to from what i've read...

if someone uses the patch, then takes a screenshot in roughly the same place as one of my outdoor ones at the same settings we'll know straight away...

Has anyone tried any of the co-op mods, I always thought this game would be insanely fun with another player (although a lot of this would be based upon whether or not you could teamup in vehicles - ie a driver and a gunner)

I used the automatic patch over version 1.33

I'm not sure it's quite right as the pebbel texture around the water in the boat level looks like ASS....

Just a couple of questions for you. When you say everything maxed, you mean everything? AA, AF everything? Is that at 1280x1024?

Because if that's the case, then I know that my 7900 should definately be able to handle it, and I can reinstall the uupgrade and try and figure out what was causing the twitchyness I experienced.

I didn't think it would be the gfx card, but either way, I didn't notice much of an improvement either, so uninstalled it, and it still looks great at 8xSAA, 16xAF and so on. Haven't tried HDR yet though. hmmm. :)

Also, your whisper quiet machine, given that you've got all soft mounted Nexus fans and so on, how are you finding the chipset fan on the Ultra-D?

Mines arriving tomorrow, and I'm thinking I could use the second PCI-e at 8x to allow me to maybe replace that stock chipset HSF, but obviously I've got to see how noisy it is first.

I'll be replacing the TIM with AS5 straight away if I think the noise is bearable, was just looking for some more input!

Thanks,

Also, half-OT, A friend of mine just got round to trying Far Cry on his 9550 we bios flashed to a 9600, and the water still looks good, even with that little detail!

That poor card though, the only fan in the PC is the CPU fan, and it's a Prescott, and it has a vent/funnel straight over CPU out of the case, everything else is passively cooled (it is quiet, I'll give it that) and that poor, poor graphics card is sweating away overclocked at Far Cry!
He has to play it side panel off, window open, air con unit next to PC. Hehe. Gotta love ghetto cooling! :D

Is there another setting that I need to specify in order to get the bump mapping on the rocks? I think I can see further, and I don't recall the reflections of land on the water being as pronounced as they are now, but I'm not getting the bump mapping effect on rocks.

Everything maxed out means - 1280x1024 - all in-game settings ulta-high 2AA (+HDR) 4AF

I know the 2aa & 4af isn't "maxed out" but the HDR=7 really kills my FPS :disgust:

the whole ulta-d chipset cooler is a bad design, but if you remove the thermal pad and put some AS5 on the stock cooler you should be good. I run my 7800gt in the top slot with no problems. My chipset runs at about 45c.

Oh yeah, be sure you update the bios on the ultra-D - it will make the stock chipset cooler run at a lower RPM (inaudible in my P180)

Do I need the mod if I have patchs 1.31 & 1.33?

Or does 1.33 already include what the mod does?

If it helps the next guy, the Far Cry 64 bit download is no longer where the links above say it was.

Now it's here, on AMD's site. Look in the left column of the linked page for "Far Cry 64-bit."

Edit: Installed both patches successfully, exactly following dug777's instructions, but alas!, can't see any difference at all.

GPU: ATI Original Radeon X800 XL 256MB.
CPU: A64 3200+ Winchester, OC to 2500MHz
RAM: OCZ EL Platinum Rev 2 ver. 1.1 (2 x 512MB)

Everything looks nice except the rocks on the islands. Did I do something wrong?

Before
After

Edit:
I believe the new patches are supposed to improve the visuals. They do. Except, the ground where my picture shows looked much better before. After applying the patches, the ground looks so unrealistic!

Nope. That's huw fugly they're supposed to look, unfortunately.

It's not like this game had good textures to begin with. I like the game but everything has a nice cheeze polish all over. Like the grass' default photoshop brush look...

you know i just started playing far cry and i have to say it looks far prettier than even oblvion. on the same machine i found everything in farcry superior to oblivion and fear.
to top it off i was running it at 1280x1028 and getting above 50 fps while in oblivion i got only 20 fps (average outdoors ) running at 640x480.

anyone else think so ?
