umm.. what about emergencies, and someone desperately needs to inform someone in the movietheater?

They could walk 3 feet to the exit, then place the call?

Exactly.

Thank you. See, now if people could only walk that same 3 feet in a non-emergency so everyone else wouldn't get pissed.

Yes, because when someone's trying to call in to the person inside the theater, that person instinctively knows to move outside the room.

Name an emergency where it matters if you get someone ELSE in a two hour timeframe that is likely to occur. Further, people in the past got allong just fine without cell phones, so we can stand to be without them for 2 hours. And lastly, they could go and get the person, or they could call the theater.

Soon as the first person dies as a result, down comes the metal. 😛

People make way to big a deal about a person dieing. One death is worth the comfort of 1000's of movie goers.

Then they can physically get that person, or call the movie theator.

What do you think they did before freekin' cell phones? Anyone who was on call (e.g. Doctors, etc) would advise the theatre office that they were on call, and roughly where they were sitting.

Of course, I'm kinda old, and that was back in the days when most people weren't such self-absorbed, discourteous a-holes.

Brilliance.

okay, see... there are many situations would a person couldn't physically come get the person in the theater.. such as, they got into an accident... too lazy to list more, pointless
cell phones are there to make things easier, so.. calling the cell phone instead of calling a theater (which theater to call? not everyone says what theater they are going to, when talking to family or whoever), and having the person at the desk go find what movie that person in theater is watching, and finding him... hmm, not so convienent.. cell phone ftw

Great idea, but I can just see that going nowhere after some whiny-ass sues a movie theater because they couldn't get a fscking emergency call on their cell phone due to the signal being blocked. "OMFG! My kid was dying and I didn't know because teh evil movie theater blocked my cell phone!"

Or maybe I'm just a cynic.....

is there something wrong with that?
just force the movie theaters to impose greater punishment for those that disrupt the theater for non-emergencies
the biggest movie theater here in toledo has people who work there every now and then stroll into the individual theaters to check for problems

There was a time when cell phones didn't exist. People coped. You do not need to be able to be contacted 24/7. Besides, if someone has an accident, how is someone being able to call you going to help? Further, convenience is not the be all end all. Further still, if you have an emergency, that does not give you the right to interupt a whole theaters worth of people's movie. Group rights take precedence when you enter a setting like that.

A responsible person leaves more than one contact. If you leave your kid with a babysitter, you need to tell them how to contact you without relying on cell phones. Further, a few lives are an acceptable price to pay for the comfort of millions of movie goers.

"Mr. Tick, we have a donor. You can get that life-saving liver transplant, but you have to be at the hospital within the next 1 hour."

What do I win? 😀 😛

Heck, there can't be more than, ohhh, 20 or 30 people in a theater waiting for a transplant. 😛

In regard to the doctors on-call, etc. Of course, we all have to be inconvenienced by ringing cell phones and conversations during the movie, so they don't have to be inconvenienced by their own schedule and career choice.

come back and tell me how you feel if the situation ever reverses itself to center around you
life's different now, period... more things going on, more dangers, and when a kid is in danger, that call could save a life... cuz you (in the theater) can leave and go help the kid, or whoever. stop whining because you are annoyed by cell phones. my cell phone has come in handy in quite a few circumstances.
besides, you must have an attention span of a squirrel if a ringing phone disrupts you from watching the movie.. i hear a ring, i get mad, but continue watching the movie. voila.. nothing missed
that and cell phones can be turned to vibrate/silent... ringing gone. just enforce the theater etiquette a bit more = problem solved. don't ban it completely.

i hope your joking, fvcking nazi

besides, it may not be a 'kid' with a babysitter, could be a kid got in an accident.. maybe your wife fell down the stairs and a kid at home is scared and doesn't know what to do.
many circumstances

If your waiting for a liver transplant, don't go to a theater, or leave an alternate contact. Further, when you enter a movie theater, YOU SURRENDER YOU INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS IN FAVOR OF GROUP RIGHTS! That means the group is more important than the individual. You only have rights as part of the group, therefor you are not entitled to answer you cell phone because it would be bad for the group. Further, I am so willing to take a %0.01 percent chance of something bad happening because I can't be contacted rather than have to deal with cell phones interupting my movies.

What if someone need to call OUT?

Robbery or <insert crime> in the theater.
Heart attack or <insert medical emergency> in the theater.
Fire in the theater, fire exits/escape route blocked.

Ah yes, the culture of entitlement, where you are more important than other people, how swell.... And don't tell me life does not have a monitary value. If it didn't, we'd all be driving cars with the safety features of BMW's and life insurance would not exist. And we all know confort has a value, so the two can be traded. And I'm not a nazi. I have nothing against jewish people. I like jewish people infact. A more apropriate tort would have been calling me communist.

I agree. There is simply no good reason to have a cell phone turned on in a movie theater. Leave it in the car or have the theater jam them.

we got along just fine without them before.

Can the FCC pass a law to allow this? Maybe we can start writing out congressmen?

Sorry, that won't work either. A lawyer could pay for his kid's college arguing whether the plaintiff had a legitimate emergency or if it was total BS.

Not to mention, the movie theaters will just make it even more expensive for the consumers if they have to add more staff and take time to screen for people causing a problem.

Someone's going to get fscked in the end no matter what approach you take to the problem.

Welcome to our litigious society.

I favor a consent form before you can enter the theater. Saves everyone time.
