Great idea, but I can just see that going nowhere after some whiny-ass sues a movie theater because they couldn't get a fscking emergency call on their cell phone due to the signal being blocked. "OMFG! My kid was dying and I didn't know because teh evil movie theater blocked my cell phone!"
Or maybe I'm just a cynic.....
is there something wrong with that?
just force the movie theaters to impose greater punishment for those that disrupt the theater for non-emergencies
the biggest movie theater here in toledo has people who work there every now and then stroll into the individual theaters to check for problems
Sorry, that won't work either. A lawyer could pay for his kid's college arguing whether the plaintiff had a legitimate emergency or if it was total BS.
Not to mention, the movie theaters will just make it even more expensive for the consumers if they have to add more staff and take time to screen for people causing a problem.
Someone's going to get fscked in the end no matter what approach you take to the problem.
Welcome to our litigious society.

I favor a consent form before you can enter the theater. Saves everyone time.
how do you decide who gets permission to carry a cell phone? only doctors and lawyers? BS
you can't predict who will need their phone for an emergency
learn to deal with the situation. we dont live in a communist society, so we dont need to live life according to your believe that WE is better than I. Because its not. We live in a society where everyone lives for themselves.
and learn your history. jews were an exuse for the nazi to bid their power. they had to follow through. the nazi's would kill anyone in their way that didn't believe what they believed. authoritarians, not anti-semitic
You missed it. No one can use a cell in the theater, and you sign a consent form saying you agree to the cell phone blocking, and you assume all consequences of the blocking as your own actions. I'm not going to start a flame war about nazis. And yes, WE is more important than I, because we live in a democracy, not an autocracy or a monarchy. A government based on the vote values the majority, and the majority is the group. You are not more important that 100 other people combined.
ahh got ya, misinterpreted that
still.... we/i, group/self, it doesn't matter... life has already moved to cell phones, which is a viable emergency contact method... so blocking the ability to be contacted in an emergency will win nobody over to the belief that the thing is good
i certainly would protest such a thing being constructed. people need to be able to be contacted when their is an emergency. end of story. there are too many holes where someone wouldn't know how to contact someone otherwise.
and as a society, it is WE before I, but in life, its I before WE. You're looking at it too much in a political standpoint. again, please tell me you would give up all your individual freedoms to better a group, when losing said freedoms would put risk the lives of you or your loved ones. democracy may not be perfect, and while it is catered to WE, it is equally catered to I.
