Far Cry 4 - November 18th 2014

Just started the game. The opening sequence is one of the best I've experienced in any game. Worth playing just for those first 5 or 10 minutes introducing you to the big bad guy.

Game has an annoying bug where there is a black bar at the bottom of the screen, but not the top. I'm assuming it is not handling 16:10 aspect ratios properly. SLI is also not working.

Game still on the "pre-ordered" status...effing annoying

EDIT: LOL @ Uplay for activating a product you already bought/activated via Uplay...

I am stuck at work and cannot wait to get home. My digital download should be done
and I have no plans for this evening other than this game. 🙂
I will give feedback after I have played.
Did they launch the day 1 patch?
Apparently the FOV option was added for PC in the patch.

Are you sure the resolution is set right? I am running on a 1980x1200 monitor and it defaulted to a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1080P.

Played the game for about an hour and half last night (GMG keys were distributed ~ 11PM EST and the game was unlocked immediately once downloaded. Initial thoughts are as follows.

1. Gameplay is very, very similar to FC3, which is a very good thing. The grapple is done very well and I think its going to add some really interesting gameplay elements. Pagan Min - like Vaas from FC3 - is a friggin awesome villain. Can't want to see more of him. From the map the game world is absolutely massive, and like FC3 most of the locations are filled with things to collect, see, or do.

2. The graphics are pretty nice, but IMO are not a huge step up from FC3. Noticeable texture improvements abound and the game is quite pretty, but it is definitely not the most beautiful game around. That said, the game surprisingly seems to run pretty bad on my rig (Win7x64, 16GB ram, 780TI, 3770k at 4.2Ghz). It is defintely not the buttery smoothness that is FC3, but maybe that is to be expected given the graphical "improvements" that are being implemented. Turning off msaa helps a lot, and doesn't seem to hurt image quality that much. Didn't have a chance to play with too many of the other graphics settings.

3. Mouse and KB controls are completely F'ed right now. Mouse acceleration is present even when it is configured to be OFF in the config menus. Editing the config files does not help. Hopefully they will patch it, as the game is virtually unplayable with mouse and keyboard. Using an Xbox controller works fine, though it comes with all the limitations of using a controller to drive a FPS.

4. Driving is a complete chore. Some dumbass thought it would be a good idea to map forward and reverse to up and down on the left stick, with instantaneous switching between the two at even the slightest movement either way. This results in extremely unpredictable driving mechanics, particularly on the ATV's. I have not investigated whether it is possible to remap the driving controls yet, but if not that is something that absolutely should be patched in. That being said there is an autodrive mode that helps quite a bit.

All in all I like the game because it is more of the same goodness that was FC3. But there are quite a few points of frustration that make the game "less" than what it could be.

I have black bars on both top and bottom, but I think the bottom is bigger. I'll have to check next time I play. I even made sure it was set for 16:10 (1920x1200), but still have black bars.

Did you try the latest Nvidia drivers? They are "game ready" for FC4, but not sure if that means it gets an SLI profile or not...

I'm getting the same thing, still stuck on pre-ordered status and cannot play! I got an email from Ubisoft at 12:05am saying that the game is available...WTF!

Reaffirms my stance to never preorder a PC version of a game. We have obviously become 3rd class citizens to most game devs. Come to think of it, GTA V for PS4 might have been the only game I've preordered in my life.

I'm glad the game seems to be good, but i'll let them iron some of the bugs out, especially SLI since i'll need that for sure considering the game causes a 780ti to choke. Sounds pretty insane to be honest. As soon as the game is fixed I'm buying.

Yeah I hear you. I did get it working shortly after making that post, though. Initially the redemption code was not taking to Uplay but after a closing out of Uplay and opening back up it seemed to work. Uplay FTL

Just wanted to say that my initial impressions in post 110 were based on an (apparently) unpatched game code. The nvidia game ready drivers for FC4 also were not available at the time I played. Perhaps they will improve performance.

Reading another forum I learned that there are a few more settings in the config file that may need to be tweaked to turn mouse acceleration completely off. Will have to try those later today as I really do not enjoy playing an FPS with a gamepad on the PC.

So is performance about the same as FC3 or is it much worse?

Kinda worried for us AMD users, given it's an Nvidia-sponsored title. Hoping to at least get 60 FPS on a 2500K @ 4.7 with a 7950 at 1920x1080.

Yeah, something felt off when I played the first hour or so last night. I wasn't sure if it was the mouse, the AK being a pos or just because I haven't played a game in a few months.

I need to dial in the video settings. Using the Nvidia preset I was doing around 60 fps with dips into low 50s/high 40s. Dropped down to High/custom and it got into the 70-80s, but I was using MSAA 4x. SMAA pushed it into the 90s. Still need to see what matters and what doesn't. The god rays are kinda interesting, but I don't always like the look. I need to look at my FC3 settings to see what I settled on there.

Check your last Ubisoft email, there will be a game key in it that you must use to activate your game...

Other thing, can't connect to uplay right now...with the nice message "There seem to be a problem with your internet connection"...

I love it...I simply love it.

Get rid of MSAA - its an add on to other anti-aliasing that is implemented in game. You should see a nice bump in performance without much loss in image quality.
