I've died in some ways that were just too random wtf and couldn't be avoided at all. I was once I the side of a cliff/hill on an atv sitting there looking around off the side of the road, I see a car approaching with some of my allies doing their patrol and don't think anything of it and look the other direction taking screenshots I think. Next think I know I hear one of the NPC's say oh shit or something and I turn just in time to look and see their car headed right towards me (like 10 feet away at this point) with 2 bears chasing it. It was LOL worthy for sure, but man I didn't have a chance, knocked off the edge and splat.

Most of the times I have died it was because I messed up my approach to an enemy base. Overall I find the game is really fairly easy, with the notable exception of bears and wild cats which take an immense amount of ammo to the face to die. Seriously I unloaded an entire AR mag into a bears face and it didn't die. I've since resorted to grenades.

Shotuns are great for killing wildlife. 3 rounds takes a bear down, 2 for a tiger/cat iirc, 1 for pretty much everything else

bears flat suuuuuuuck..

1 grenade and they still walk away.. even an RPG hit dont kill them..

explosive arrows still require at least 2 as well..

crazy bears..

My weapon choice by the end of the game was:

Pistol - D50 with Extended Mag + Optical Sight
Assault Rifle - ACE with Extended Mag + Marksman Sight
Launcher - GL-94
Sniper - Z93 with Extended Mag + Sound Suppressor + High Power Scope

Unlike most here I hate the bow... If I am doing stealth kills from range, I have the sniper, and if I am too close to use the sniper, I can just do a takedown, so whatever

Anyway, I love the Grenade Launcher so much for the armored guys later on... Its a must IMO, especially when things go wrong and they fire the alarm, and then a new patrol car comes running in, and you just blow it off with the GL, its priceless

Sniper as well, that one really is an absolute must for missions... There are some spots where you just wont make it without one, at least on hardest difficulty

I just wish there would be some incentive to replay the game... Best you can do is pick different weapons, or set a self challenge like "NO guns", beat the whole game with takedown only (as I said above, dont even think thats possible when it comes to story missions)

Bow before you get explosive arrows flat sucks except for hunting.
once you get the explosive arrows.. its 1 shot to kill a heavy right in the face..

4 well placed explosive arrows will demolish a outpost.

Not a fan of the bow myself but then again I basically don't bother with stealth most of the time. Either tear up the place with a LMG or use my trusty Z93 .50cal that explosive rounds to tear the place up from a distance. It also 1shots heavies anywhere in the body and will shoot through light cover. Hell 1 hit in the engine block and it will cripple a car and 2 will make it go up in flames.

LEAVE ME ALONE AMINALS!!!!

lol, this game is crazy! was trying to hunt tapirs south of the starting area. find 3 of them and start taking them out with the silenced sniper rifle.

then I see a tiger and shoot it. well it comes after me. I shoot 1 or 2 more times with sniper rifle, not slowing it down. switch to assault rifle and unload into it. It jumps on me and kills me.

I restart and head back. tiger is still there. I shoot it once with the sniper and it comes towards me. I get in the jeep and back over the son of a bitch and kill it!

but then a pirate patrol comes. I run into the bushes and hide but they already saw me and start looking. i take out 1 guy with sniper rifle and the other guy can't find me. run up behind him and knife him!

start hunting tapirs again and all of a sudden a dog comes after me. kill the dog but then a komodo dragon is after me. run away and then another patrol sees me and starts after me but they get killed by the komodos and another tiger, but they killed the tiger. skin the tiger.

try to kill a komodo but it attacks me and hurts me bad. finally kill it and skin everything and loot everyone.

goddamn, you cant do anything in this game without being attacked! haha.

Saw a white tiger across this stream and started shooting at it. it just kept running around so I kept shooting but ran out of ammo before I could kill it.

Throughout most of the game animals are indeed the hardest part, but once you get the skill that reduces animal damage, it gets much better

And speaking of throwing grenades at bears, one of the (few) disappointing things about the game is how there is no dismemberment etc... I hate how I can throw a grenade with the GL-94 in someones face, and he just falls, as if he is made of diamond or something

The game is already quite "M" with the skinning animations, and the heals where you break your hand/thumb etc, so I dont get why they didnt include this

It all comes down to money/budgeting. They don't have infinite funds to include an infinite amount of detail.

That and weighing how intensive it is to render stuff.

Everyone saying that Crysis 2 looked worse than Crysis 1 and that meant CryEngine3 was worse than CryEngine2 didn't seem to get that. Crysis 2 only looked 'worse' because of resource budgeting and game design. The engine itself could still do whatever you wanted. But you can only include so much detail and rendering before it becomes financially expensive, and for what? Most people's systems cant really do everything an engine can throw at it.

i'm pretty dissapointed with it. the map indicator is rediculously large and obtrusive, other onscreen indicators to dumb my brain are equally annoying. static enviro minus the the straight lined 2d grass that moves in the most odd way imaginable. graphics are kinda funky considering but its just weird finding valuables in wooden boxes all over the place that supposedly the money grubby pirates never found first? whatever, its so unrealistic they might as well just toss in some unicorns and dragons too. overall i didn't find the missions i played to be interesting in any way. So shelving the game till some conversion mods come out, if at all.

After 3rd install game works! The only difference now, game is installed on the OS drive. Anyway, it's running great.

I was messing around too much with the gun by the time I was going after the first boar. Running after the boar, firing wildly, run out of ammo, boar hears click instead of bang, slows down and turns around and starts to chase me. Still new to the game, I forgot about melee attack so I'm running wildly from the boar, eventually I press the F key. Just finished at the doctor's house. I'm liking it so far, it doesn't seem like it's going to be a short game.

I haven't played the game. I am interested, and have seen a few trailers. This said, is it just my eyes or are the graphics for his hand down right pathetic? Overall the graphics looked fine, but the ones for his hand looked very weird in the vids I'd seen.

Is it just me, or is the "GPU Frame Buffer" option totally useless? I thought it would help eliminate the micro-stutter that is inherent to the game's engine, but it did absolutely nothing to smooth out the framerate. Only added input lag.

Then again, I'm haven't tested it with the 12.11 beta driver yet. I was using 12.11 yesterday, but reverted back to 12.10 because of a few odd issues I was having. I'll wait for the next stable release.

The hands look fine. Not amazing, but they match the quality of the rest of the game's graphics. Which are pretty damn good. If you play the game and see for yourself, you might change your mind; the movement and animation in the game is quite well done.

I'm still in the beginning part of the game because I haven't had a lot of time to play. I just fell down a steep hill for the first time. I am stunned at how realistic it feels to actually fall and tumble. You don't just "hover and slide" down inclines like in other FPS games; rather, you trip, tumble, roll, and land on your face in the dirt. I thought that was pretty impressive.

That was one of my problems too... For something that shows constantly throughout the game in pretty much anything you do, they sure didnt put enough effort there
Faces have much better detail/shading than the main characters hands

Just compare the nanosuit glove from Crysis 2 with the hand in FC3, LOL FC3 feels like a decade old game

Like I said originally, FC3 is just really inconsistent, sometimes it looks amazing, sometimes it looks terrible (the chinese caves for one, the lightning/texture in the rocks looks awful, I dont know what they were thinking)

Gameplay trumps graphics anyday though, and it is so addictive that one hour in you wont even care about the hands anymore
And I agree with what LessThanDan said, the "physics" of the character, from running to jumping etc are the most immersive Ive seen, which is why most people are grabbed by the game right on the opening sequence, just running through the jungle

Overall, the game does an amazing job at making you feel like you are really there

If you're taking screenshots and looking too close, of course there will be things that don't look all that great, but in motion this game is gorgeous. I'm not staring at his hands while I play, in fact I don't think I've ever looked at them.

I did notice the shiny rocks in the caves though, they did look particularly bad.

Is there any way you can make the mini compass map always point north? Man I hate how it rotates now.

Turns out I could have gotten the sniper rifle by doing a hunting challenge.

It's not worthwhile paying money for any of the guns. You unlock them all by doing radio towers or hunting challenges. I unlocked the grenade launcher last night. That thing is epic. You can dispatch 5 dudes with one shot.
