got 4-5 diff key and try them all yet
( another think is , i am using picasa2 and somethimes 4-5 weeks ago my connection between the picasa2 and gmail gone by the wind, i bet, is could be the same thing, somethig is blocking them, but i havent got any proxy, router, firewall (just the win one at the moment and is disabled when i am trying) and i just got red of the bitdefender sec package....)

Well, after using it for a couple of weeks, I've uninstalled Active Virus Shield and gone back to good ole' Avir.

It just kept nagging me every 5 seconds about some .DLLs related to my Logmein remote access software. So annoying :| And apparently there's no way to whitelist them. Plus it seemed a bit heavier on resources than Avir.

Nothing really wrong with the program...just didn't float my boat as much as Avir.

AntiVir is an excellent AV as well. Here are the instructions on how to disable that annoying popup nag screen for Windows XP Home and Professional.

Do I want to dump my paid version of NAV 2006, and install AOL's? Sounds like AOL uses less resources, and has a better detection rate. I just want confirmation before I uninstall my $40 AVS for a free one.

NAV06 is a bloated pig, but Symantec does give you the opportunity to upgrade to 2007 for free which is very respectable.

A few things to note about Kaspersky Antivirus in XP 64:

Proactive Defense

Warning!
There are no Proactive Defense components in this version of the application (Application Integrity Control and Office Guard) for computers running Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition or computers running Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows Vista x64.

Changes to the file system
Modules being imbedded in other processes
Masking processes in the system
Changes to certain Microsoft Windows system registry keys.
Proactive Defense tracks and blocks all dangerous operations.
Proactive Defense also tracks all VBA macros executed in Microsoft Office applications.

This is one of the major features that KAV offers over AOL AVS, but it does not work in XP 64.

IMO, if you are a 64bit user, no real reason to hand over the cash for the full KAV when the AOL one can do everything you need, at least until they get that module working with XP 64.

Ever since I installed the AOL active shield by sygate firewall has been detecting port scans from the same IP. I'm assuming this is because of the anti-virus. Just wondering why it does this.

Jpark, you might want to email Support@us.kaspersky.com to see if they can offer some insight.

sygyzy, since AVS doesn't have an http scanner I don't see how the real-time file protection could affect bandwidth. On the pc's that I use with AVS installed there are zero bandwidth issues.Open AVS, go to service, what is the product version?

I know full-version Kaspersky has on-the-fly scanning of network traffic enabled on some ports by default, with the option to do so for all ports. Not sure what, if any, of that carries over to the free version.

John - The version is 6.0.0.308

The bandwidth issues are most noticeably noticed in Grab-It, a newsgroup reader/downloader. I can replicate it every single time. Perhaps what's happening is it's scanning each part of the file as it downloads (large files are posted as a hundreds of little chunks, each downloaded one by one then combined). If this is true, it's a huge defect in the product, in my opinion. AntiVir does not have this problem. I switched to AVS because of all the praise people are giving it on ATOT.

The praise is warranted, based on the superior detection rate of Kaspersky over AntiVir against frequently-updated threats or fast-spreading new threats. recent example from my SiteAdvisor adventures :camera: Fairly typical.

The full version of Kaspersky does let you make specific programs exempt from the Inquisition If you run mIRC, it would probably be a good idea to use it from a (YES) non-Admin account. Keep it in a safety cage. I have a separate non-Admin account specifically for messing with dangerous stuff, so it's not even in the same safety cage as anything I care about.

Well, the real kaspersky internet security suite does, and it is now free after MIR. and yes, you can just install the antivirus part should you not wish any of the other features.
