Found out why talking to Nick was so funky. Turns out that happens if you walk away from a conversation. I didn't like any of my options for Cooke's quest and I knew Nick would like none of them, so I finished the conversation and accepted the quest, then went and finished Nick's quest, then dismissed him and did Cooke's dirty deed. Now I'm using Cait (well - not like that) but it's sad that Nick can't be dismissed back to Diamond City where he has a business and an assistant who still needs to eat.

What the hell!? 😡

That thing on a sneak character with a silencer would be pretty epic.... Sneak does x3.5 (x4.2 with Deacon'e perk) and that x2 at full health (so either x7 damage or x8.4). Also add the regular perk for silenced guns... Just go solo so nothing else shoots at your enemies and one-shot-head-shot everything :awe:

Ok. I remap my keybindings, up arrow for forward, left arrow for left, etc. But when I am in build mode it makes me immobile. I have to remap to default so I can move around as the arrow keys are bound to navigating in build mode.
Am I just SOL on this or is there a workaround?
I've done some minimal digging and saw it's affecting several people, I just don't know if Bethesda is going to patch for this exact issue or not.
Has anyone else had this issue or is everyone else a WASD user?

and the 5.56 machine gun for basically everything else
I like to use a silenced pistol (the Deliverer specifically) because the AP cost is much, much lower than the assault rifle. In close quarters, this lets me pick and choose what I'm shooting without feeling rushed, and has a DPS that's significantly higher than the assault rifle.

If I have much range to my target, either outdoors or in a particularly big indoor space, I'll use the assault rifle manually rather than using VATS. VATS to-hit drops off pretty rapidly with range, and outside of VATS the pistol no longer has such a huge speed advantage.

Yep, key rebinding is only half-implemented. With any shooter the first thing I do is remap to ESDF. After realizing the numerous glitches this produced because some keys didn't remap, in particular the looting keys and Build Mode keys, I sighed and reverted to WASD.

I had this problem ,simple fix is use X key to move and hit it again to stop while in build mode, I use arrow keys as well, you get use to using X key for moving in build mode.

Complain about beds:
Discovered its a vanilla bug which has something to do with TV's..
Scrap all the TV's you have at local settlement.

Not able to get over 85:
This is because your character needs to physically sit at the settlement.
They get happier when they see your there and noticed its the only way to break the 85 happiness barrier.

Also make sure u have every crafting station, and also have a bar / food shop.
A clinic shop also helps, but noticed not as much as bar / food, IMO bar / food is very important.

hmm... never thought about needing crafting stations- I bet that is part of the issue about my settlement happiness. I have level 3 bar, clinic, and trader stores at this settlement. I also have not just sat around or slept for 24 hours, etc. so I understand why I cant get to 100 happiness. But the happiness at 67 is crazy and the fact that the settlers don't remember their jobs or bed assignments for 10 minutes is either a glitched settlement or a snyth messing it up. I don't have this issue at other settlements- they all range about 80-85.

I've been using my power armor more. I tend to prefer running around without it, since I'm supposed to be sneaky, but the increased carry weight is seductive.

Not if you are using Pocketed, or Deep Pocketed armor mods, you lose out when you step into a power armor as your armor stats do not take affect when in PA

For Happiness, I find as long as you are around 75-80 should be fine, the only reason to get to 100 is to get the achievement.

I thought the last patch fixed the unmappable keys? I know it made my grenade key work which is sweet.

I hate accidentally sitting down or using something like chemist station is worst. Takes so long for the animations.
Yup. That and trying to move a box and accidentally exiting my power armor. Takes soooo long to exit and get back in.

Still sweet!

That's really outweighed by everything else.

I've got several Deep Pocketed armor pieces, and without the power armor my carry weight is 260. With the power armor it's 410. The +50 per leg far plus the intrinsic power armor bonus renders the pockets / deep pockets mods unimportant.

yep - me too....hence I am level 52 and only getting 1-2 main missions completed so far. Does anybody know how far in the main missions you have to finish before the game will allow you to progress past initial 2 missions in the "Brotherhood of Steel" storyline?

Huh, I had seen the opposite.
In Combat Armour pieces with all with deep pocketed, I had way more than carry weight than with my PA.

It was something like 380 without PA and 320 with PA, or something a lot lower

Now I had not done any mods on the PA so that might be a bit of it.

Cant really check until Tuesday as I am away onsite for work

Yuu can upgrade PA legs with +50 carry weight each (for a total of +100). The extra total on Combat Armor is something like +60 (when all elements are upgraded with deep pockets).

Sneak+Ninja combo is pretty overpowered. At high levels you can sneak with little chance of detection and hit them with something like a 3.5x damage multiplier....even deathclaws get owned with a 0.50 suppressed sniper rifle. Worse, half the time even if they survive the first hit, they often still don't detect you so you can hit them again.

Stalls out until you enter the Institute for the most part.

How did you get so high in levels? I finished the game at 38 and really don't have anything in my quest log.

I took "enter every interesting looking building that catches your notice" as an unmarked quest at the start of the game. There's no completion bonus, but there's a lot of experience along the way from kills, lockpicking, and of course a few points just for discovering the location.

Plus, there's the "obsess over building up settlements" quest. That gives you points every time you construct a new object in Build Mode.

Heck, even every food you cook or weapon/armor mod you make.

If you were desperate, you could pick a safe, re-lock it from the computer beside it, rinse and repeat until you're sick of it. 😉

I'm not going to feel bad for them. Playing on Survival mode and those high level things can take multiple fully charged, fully upgraded gauss rifle hits to the torso and head.

Does anyone actually use higher level perks? All the level 10s seem to suck. I'm at level 60 and moving back to max out some that are unlocked with SPECIAL levels below 4.

Time to re-analyze builds / perks / SPECIAL now that we have substantial play experience!

I haven't actually taken any level 10 perk myself yet, since my character's only level 10 stat is Intelligence, and I don't like Nerd Rage. But I think I've seen enough to talk about them.

STR 10, Pain Train: now that it's obvious that Power Armor is available almost from game start, the requirement to wear Power Armor doesn't seem like a big deal. Even though it costs Fusion Cores, my experience is that those are plentiful, and I've been hoarding them for no good reason.

The big issue with Pain Train is that it's essentially a melee attack. Maybe there are people who do melee in Fallout - I never do.

Perception 10: Concentrated Fire. +10% - +20% accuracy and damage for additional attacks to the same body part. Seems pretty decent, particularly if you get a VATS bonus pistol like the Deliverer. The damage bonus means it's beneficial even when you're at point blank.

END 10: Solar Powered. +2 STR and END during daylight, slow regeneration. The regeneration seems unimportant since healing items are plentiful. +2 STR could be OK if you were melee-focused, 1 perk point for +2 STR. Overall kind of underwhelming, though.

Charisma 10: Intimidation. I've been meaning to test this out. I don't know enough about how it works in practice to comment yet.

INT 10: Nerd Rage. SUCKS, because it only works when you're about to die, and the +DR is trivial. All too often damage will blow past the threshold, going from 21%+ health to death, so it won't trigger.

Agility 10: Gun-Fu. +25% damage to target 2, +50% to target 3, Critical to target 4 in VATS. Should be pretty damned good, particularly with one of those fast pistols I mentioned before. Sure, lots of times you're up against one tough target, but should make handling hordes of Ferals a breeze at low levels, when they're a real threat.

Luck 10: Ricochet: Not enough information about actual practice. Bugs me personally because it feels ridiculously cheaty and removes player agency. Enemies randomly killing themselves rather than because I did something is unappealing.

More on the subject of character builds: I imagined I'd be spending some points on SPECIAL upgrades early. I did in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and Fallout 4 gives you far fewer SPECIAL points to play with.

In practice, though, I don't think I did it until I hit level 50. 50! Because there always seemed like some perk that was more worthwhile than spending a point that would mostly just unlock better perks. There are lot of low-level perks (stat requirement 4 or less) that seem awfully good.

Rifleman (PER 2) and Gunslinger (AGI 1) are both big deals. Commando possibly. I avoided Commando because automatic weapons have that low base damage issue, and I was hurting for ammunition early in the game. Commando probably requires Scrounger until late in the game.

Locksmith (PER 4) gives big rewards. There are enough Master locks out there to make 3 points in Locksmith a significant leg up.

Gun Nut (Int 3) - easily the most important crafting skill in the game, and gives at least as much of an overall bonus to your guns as the Rifleman / Gunslinger perks. Together they multiply.

Sneak (Agility 3) - takes a while to build up to something useful, but can lead to one-shot kills with the Sneak bonus and other perks.

Mister Sandman (Agility 4) - not as strong as the Gunslinger / Rifleman perks, but once you have silenced weapons, the effects multiply with the weapon perks and crafting skills. You can easily end up doing 300+ damage with your first pistol shot if you're invested in all of those and Mister Sandman. Ninja is better, but requires AGI 7.

Note that the description slightly understates things. A sneak attack with Mister Sandman 1 does 2.4x damage, instead of 2x. Level 3 is 3x damage.
