Umm, both of those statements are a little off from reality.
weren't you around this forum in 2006 when Oblivion was by far the best looking game around and killed every GPU it ran on? you must remember how it took the 1950XTX to run oblivion properly until the 8800 series came along.

I don't know what the big deal is the trailer looked fine to me. High end graphic may not be its thing however it didn't look bad at all.

The textures really look horrible in the trailer, especially on the dogs face when zoomed in during that one spot. Maybe its because its an early build. But nothing graphically looks amazing at all.

But, people play it for the gameplay, not the graphics.

So you think Skyrim was really competitive with BF3 etc? No, it looked like shit for a 2011 game. Look at things like it's hideous shadows, poor character models, low res textures and the quality of it's distant terrain. It was only a modest improvement on Oblivion. By 2006 standards, however, Oblivion was very impressive. I haven't heard many people try to argue otherwise. It's usually me complaining about Oblivion's graphics, about how inconsistent they are (same applies to Skyrim), but under favorable conditions it could look better than any other game at the time. Even I won't deny it that.

calling vanilla Skyrim a "modest improvement" over Oblivion sounds like a memory/perspective issue.

I was a bit put off by the video on Steam.

Looked A LOT like Bioshock Infinite mixed with Fallout, and I hated Infinite. Keep your pretty colors and mindless on-rails cutscene jumping, and give me Fallout without the cutesy nostalgia, just open world goodness.

Dunno how you got that with no gameplay footage. Besides it didn't look that clean to me.

I find the graphical complaints to be ridiculous, maybe you all want some video filled with bull shots and the final product be downgraded.

Like were all now complaining about the dog's texture's? Are you not satisfied with his butt texture or something? Or you want some tessellation on that too? Sheesh.

I think I'm about the only one on this thread that hasn't played Fallout 3 or NV, but I will most certainly play Fallout 4 because I don't want to overlook another Bethesda game.

I remember back in the day buying and playing Oblivion. I must have played it for 20-30 hrs, but could never get into it. When SKYRIM finally came out, I figured I'd give it a try. To this day, it's still one my favorite games of all time.

I'm now playing the Witcher 3 and GTA V, which are both amazing games... I would like to finish them up, so I can play Fallout 3 and maybe NV before the new one arrives.

That's Bethesda's problem in a way, they expect Mods to fix everything. At least it sometimes seems like it.
Pretty much, but they do give you a ton of content to work with. I think I had around 100 hours in FO3 and around 120 in FONV before adding any content mods. And those are pretty close to actual gameplay hours because the vanilla games are so easy you rarely die - not like, say, Call of Duty where logging ten hours might well be four actual hours of gameplay and six hours of reloading/replaying the hard bits. Plus, they gave us the GECK, hallowed be its name. Thanks to the modding community I have over two thousand hours collectively in FO3 & FONV, plus I enjoyed those hours much more because the game was arranged exactly to my liking. That's an incredible bargain even at full list price. That's an incredible bargain even if I pay for mods I want.

I just hope that Bethesda relaxes its rule that all the voice actors have to fit into one sedan.

And I hope they hire that one throaty chick who voiced one of the merchants in NV - her voice really gets me going. And Felicia Day. And Eric Todd Dellums. Those (together with Liam Nelson and Matthew Perry) are the voice actors that made my experiences. And maybe the guy who did Dog/God.

That's Bethesda's problem. I played The Witcher 3 for something like 80 hours for a single playthrough. I'm playing it a second time currently.

A good game will keep you going, especially when there are multiple outcomes for quests etc. Who's fault is it if you think that if modders didn't do all kinds of work that you wouldn't touch it again after the initial play through?
But Project RED has its own problems. Want to play in first person? Sucks to be you. Want to slow down combat because you are clumsy or otherwise motion-handicapped? Sucks to be you. All developers (and all games - except Daikatana) have strengths and weaknesses.

I don't think wanting quality modern fur/hair textures is unreasonable. I too can certainly live without it to play Fallout 4, but I certainly don't consider a desire for it to be ridiculous.

Your point about trailers not being game footage is spot-on though.

It's a Bethesda game, so the bugs and crashes bother me more than anything.

I'll pass for the first year after initial release.

I will also wait for Boris Vorontsov (ENBSeries) to see if its necessary for him to intervene there as well to make the game actually playable. His ENBoost patch was essential for Skyrim to work (would otherwise keep crashing every 15 minutes, and once ENBoost was installed I could have no freezes and no crashes sessions of hours without end). As far as graphics go, if the trailer shows actual in-game graphics then I think that they're just "fine" if anything. It's nothing great, it's nothing horrible. Some people need to keep in mind that creating open world games can take up to three years (easily) of development. The engine they're using for Fallout 4 might have been finalized up to four or maybe five years ago? Who knows, it's just probably not "recent" by any means. But anyway, I think it's alright as it is. My real concern is just actual playability of Bethesda games; usually takes a good year before they finally reach a state of minimal stability.

I have FO3 on my wishlist but never got to it. Guess I should pick it up this weekend.

I want the game to look like it belongs in 2015, not 2007.

I expect you want Street Fighter to be in isometric view as an option too? No...The Witcher is not a shooter. Witcher doesn't belong in first person that's why it's not.

This is true, I remember I hit a spot on New Vegas that would CTD every time for me no matter what. A patch about 6 months later fixed it.

Interesting.

I liked Oblivion, it was the first Elder Scrolls game I cared for. The Oblivion gates got really old, but then the bit with the Painter was so epic, so clever and unique.

Skyrim is of course in a league of it's own, but I thought Oblivion was very good.

Point is that Bethesda sets up its game to be almost anything you want it to be. Surely that is worth something? Why should we accept that a particular game "just belongs" in a particular view?

And no, I have no interest in Street Fighter or for isometric view in anything. However, I want people who want those options to have them.

This is true, I remember I hit a spot on New Vegas that would CTD every time for me no matter what. A patch about 6 months later fixed it.
Both FO3 and FONV crashed almost literally every minute for me. To make them even remotely playable, I had to search out mods. However, if I really like the game I'm willing to do that.

Strange... you can play as a tank, which your pretty much stuck with in witcher, in first person and never shot anything. Heck you can even go melee in Fallout, if your that brave :p

Skyrim is a better game, but Oblivion had much more of a 'wow' factor IMHO. Similar as Morrowind. Both games really pushed the open enviornment RPG genre and no other game like it was around. Oblivion was such a treat to explore...
