Reminds me of the fanboys whipping up the completely made up specs and posting them on pastebin or whatever the site was lately. People sure jump on the rumors quick and soon enough posters "know" something from "someone".
 
all of AMD flagship cards have been perfectly symmetrical. there is a good chance that hawaii is a 3072 sp chip with AMD waiting for yields to improve and to build up a good stock of full 3072 sp cards

HD 5870 - 1600 sp, 20 SIMD 1 geometry engines
HD 6970 - 1536 sp, 24 SIMD, 2 geometry engines (768sp x 2 / 12 SIMD X 2)
HD 7970 - 2048 sp, 32 CU, 2 geometry engines (1024sp x 2 / 16 cu x 2)
R9 290X - 3072 sp, 48 CU, 4 geometry engines (768sp x 4 / 12CU x 4 )
