It won't throttle with 75% fan speed and a good flowing case. At least this what some users are reporting over on OCN.

75% fan speed with the stock cooler? No thanks. Maybe when the aftermarket coolers are released in late November we'll see some much better figures.

Could there be more than the 2816 SPs in the Hawaii die?
So maybe a 3072 SP card
I call BS on the whole thing BTW

I've heard that the 780ti is a Titan without compute, but with a higher clock speed. The 290X needs its power and thermal issues solving before they overclock it, because it throttles in uber mode almost as far down as 650mhz. Overclocking wont help AMD. However if they bring TDP and heat down, the card will maintain its 1Ghz GPU clock for longer periods, yielding MUCH better benchmarking scores. Imagine if the 290X NEVER throttled down from 1GHz?

Impossible, TDP and thermals are too high for a dual GPU without watercooling. It would have to be similar to the Asus 7990 with AIO cooler.
Why yes & that's why I have this link from TPU which suggests that a power efficient 280x chip could be released well before the end of the year, hence the possibility that Zeus could be a power efficient version of 290x that's super clocked to beat the 780Ti.

cards owners are reporting if you crank the fan speed up a bit, and have a case with decent air flow, the card never throttles. AMD was going for audio levels over temps it seems so the fan speeds are too low to keep the card cool in poorly ventilated cases.

Just a FYI for those interested.
I was told this in passing on a Skype call to a friend in Tokyo several hours ago.
He mentioned AMD special projects division. He works for a major electronics firm in Tokyo.
Naturally I nearly flew out of my PC chair and jumped onto Google.
That led me to the TPU link/forum.
I am neither required to or going to elaborate any further on the content of that call or the name involved.
I sure as hell hope it is true tho.

Certain sources request not to be named, such as the person who added in a comment from a source who mentioned it was designed to counter the 780ti.

People need to take into account that AMD won the best company for PR award or some other crap like that a few months back. A few controlled leaks and slips of the tongue and rumour millers do the rest for them.

Thx, but...

That gives even less credence to the whole story.

AMD needs pretty much whole AMD to build The GPU, not a freaking special projects division.

Is that supposed to be a joke, all they need is a small team to tweak their high end chip(290x) & if you're claiming that AMD needs more man hours & brains, to fab an engineering masterpiece, than an Nvidia or Intel then all you're doing is berating them!

In before the usual suspects troll, thread crap, and derail.

Speaking of, can you explain this?

"At 40% it's nearly inaudible, but it's a very fine line because right around 45%, I can start to make it out over my case fans. At 50% it's louder than my case fans. I keep those relatively low speed. At 100%, it is definitely, without a doubt, a jet turbine. The damaged hearing claims were idiotic though. Anyway, it seems to be louder than I remember my reference 7970 being, but that was at launch so my memory is foggy."

You posted the day before talking directly about the noise of the fan of the 290X in your case over your case fans, then the next day said your 290X was due to arrive in a couple of days.

What's the deal?

As much as I wish this were true, there's no way lol. R9 290X is the 9590 of the GPU side. It's the absolute limit of 28nm power consumption and heat. GCN can't go further than this without a die shrink.

Wow there are quite a few witch hunts going on around here.

I don't buy the rumor this thread is built on, however I can't 100% discount it. Not much to go on here, reminds me of the rumor threads flying up daily around here for the last month.

Speaking of... what exactly? More nonsense?

Reading comprehension, it clearly escapes you once again. I'm not another Durvelle dude. Reread my post and the quote in it, I was talking about the EK waterblock.

I have to ask you, AGAIN, what is the relevance to this thread? Learn to read and comprehend a few words I strung together to form a sentence before you question anyone.

Yeah, a small team of.... SORCERERS!

to tweak their high end chip

BTW how much does it take for a chip revision... what 6 months at the very least?

You guys are all a bunch of children. Grow up. You're all at each other's throats over chips and silicon. It just makes this place seem uninviting.

Actually AMD could use that small Potter team to turn things around for them in their bleeding CPU division, GPU's are on a whole different level atm :awe:

Rumors from a few repuatable sources says 3DFX is being resurrected to stomp Nvidia & ATI GPU technology.

3DFX will get curbstomped by BitBoys Oy.

Now the ironic part is how BitBoys was acquired by ATI, Merged into AMD, and sold to Qualcomm :D

Ah, good. Should have just pm'd you I guess. There are too many AMD fudders around here of late and I totally misread that.

My apologies. Being corrected is a good thing and I don't mind be called out for my mistakes. Thank you. Won't happen again.

I think you missed a few letters there. :whiste:
