Anyone here ever just feel empty? I've got a good job, I've got a nice home, I have everything I need. I just feel empty sometimes. Like there is something missing. It's not good or bad, not sad or happy. Just empty. Like there is nothing there.

Relationship with God?

Yep, legitimized lunacy is the answer

Don't knock it till you try it. It can be very fulfilling for someone who's tried everything else.

If somebody can accept God in their heart, don't you think they would already have done it?

I can't see myself becoming truly religious. It would be a farce, a sham.

not often, but yeah.. a few times in my life.
when you feel the ultimate sadness (at least ultimate at that point), you can feel so empty you didn't recognize that it was, in fact, sadness.

it will pass...

Nobody is born intelligent, learned, educated, experienced in life, etc. Religion is the same way.

A job will do that to you. You need to find a purpose or an enjoyable activity. For me that is a thrilling kayak ride on the lake near my house. For you, maybe that is skydiving. If anything you need a vacation when that feeling hits.

Empty feeling = trying to fill a God shaped hole with anything but God.

Try reading "how people grow" by Cloud and Townsend.

Personally don't need to try it and tbh, can't bring myself to believe in something I simply don't believe in. Sorry if my previous comment sounded harsh, I didn't mean to offend with it, merely to say that I didn't think it was a good suggestion.

Homer Simpson - "Marge, there's an empty spot I've always had inside me. I tried to fill it with family, religion, community service, but those were dead ends! I think this chair is the answer."

Totally understandable. People aren't born with a propensity for religion, either. Quite the opposite.

I think we are all created with a void that needs to be filled and
a lot of folks try to fill the void with relationships and excesses
which will never fill the void that we feel.

You know what you have in your life......what is missing?

wow

you obviously need to be robbed of all your possesions. And then slowly win each back after much trial and tribulation. That should wake you up and shut you up

Zysoclaplem,

As human beings I believe we constantly need to set goals in our lives and achieve them in order to feel like we have purpose. Senior year in High School was one of the most depressing years for me because I had no motivation to study and I felt that everything I did didn't matter anymore since grades didn't mean much.

Try taking some classes at the local community college for fun. Discover possible new hobbies, maybe try a new sport, or volunteer.

Ouch!

Edit: Zysoclaplem, I know what you're saying, I was feeling this way a few months ago, I have the steady job, freinds car, home, etc.. but just felt empty still. It really got me thinking about what I want to do with my life and I started looking into even moving out of state just to have a complete change of life, but then after a few weeks the feeling passed after I realized how much I would miss my family and family. I also thought back to past jobs and compared to many of them this job is great.

What if she does try religion for a short time and it helps her out of her rut? What then, guys? Will you still knock it then? I don't understand why people bash religion so much. If you don't like it, avoid it. Ignore it. Why be so spiteful?

I can see your point, but many people would take offense to "religious" being included in that list of "good" things.
